About Rowe Writes: • Introducing: Rowe Writ...
About this project: I am writing a weekly sci-fi story to the theme of Isaac Arthur’s SFIA videos. It’s a crazy challenging timeframe to create a good short story in, and to do so publicly is even more daunting. I’m just hoping some good stories come out of this, I have fun writing them, and most importantly, the audience enjoys!
Thanks for stopping by!
(Neither this channel nor this video are affiliated with or endorsed by Isaac Arthur or SFIA; the author’s just a big fan)
This story is Episode 2 in "The Misfits" series. If you are enjoying, the entire series can be accessed here: ruclips.net/p/PLWl-Jc_I2wPAsngY7MCID9sS_98Y2siT5
Growing up reading the greats, Heinlein, Burroughs ect. Now retired and listening, I've found your stories not only as entertaining but effortless pleasure. Please continue and thank you for your time and obvious talent.
Cheers, Charles. Happy you're enjoying these stories!
P.E. Rowe is in a unique position, apparently with his unique experiences informing him, and a whole lot of detailed research!
Awesome!!
The misfit crew you've made is fantastic. Keep it up man! I'm impressed by how seamlessly each story fits within the universe you've built. It has a similar ring to the way Robert E. Howard did the same. Each story casually giving details that only have meaning for those that read the other stories. It's great!
Thanks, greyghost! Glad you're enjoying them. The high praise means a lot! I've got some different stories on deck for the next couple weeks, but methinks we haven't seen the last of this crew by a long shot 😄
P.E. Rowe Your Sci-Fl is great. I consider your stories a new Robert Heinlein and Andre Norton style, I read Norton in 1958 and Heinlein same time. I am 74 Years old and Still Adore Sci-fi.

Thanks, Edward! Glad you're enjoying my work 😃🙏 Those are some heavy names to live up to, so each week, I just try to write the best story I can. I definitely appreciate the high praise and glad I can help keep your love of Sci-Fi going strong!
So ... I guess we can baptize your settings as the Kappaverse from now on. One of my favourite stories is the Kappa Paradox. How do branes fit in that story (theoretically of course)? Loving it so far. Let us know how we can support you. I can't imagine this not being printed in the near future. 😊
I'm not sure, Holzman. Kappa is only one of the many Lettered Systems, which is only one of the four major civilizations of the Greater Battery, but that Kappa artifact is not to be trifled with! The Kappaverse does have a great ring, though! So happy you're enjoying. Next week's story (the one I'm writing now) has some pretty deep brain stuff, or at least I think so anyway. Most important support is what you're doing--listening, enjoying, commenting, liking if you do--and if you have the means and are so inclined, my support page is linked on each video. Honestly, though the supportive comments from yourself and so many listeners have been so motivating for me to keep writing. So that's the plan!
I only had a few suggestions for topics for this month’s viewer’s choice but enough that I couldn’t work them all into one story. Next week’s topics come from Jeremy and bird: “Rogue Planets & Unusual Friendship.” Thanks to everyone who suggested a topic. Please keep them coming!
And, of course, stop by next Thursday, 3/23/23 to see how the story turns out!
Cool!!!

@@jeremydyar7566 Thanks for the suggestions!
@@jeremydyar7566 Don't know why I didn't think of it earlier, Jeremy, but have you checked out "The Lights of Guldenberg" yet? That wasn't the exact topic, but it's definitely a big part of that story.
@@RoweLit will check it out!
After listening to a couple of your stories, I switched to Oldest First and started over from the beginning. Great stuff. I'm very impressed.
Thanks, Gramma! Some of those early stories are still among my favorites. Glad you're enjoying 🙏😃
Can't wait to hear more about the artifacts! Great story.
Thanks, Vicki! Not sure when we'll revisit the artifacts yet, but I'm sure they'll come around again soon. The misfit crew will be back next week, though! 😄
Thanks for listening!
Wow. How great is this. I cannot believe I found this channel so early into its life. What a story.
So glad you did, Bonzo! Welcome. Working on the next Misfits episode now. If you're interested, stop by again Thursday.
My favorite story so far! Really enjoyed this one, and the Misfits in general and hoping for more! Fantastic stuff✌️
Glad to hear it, vg! From the response I've gotten, I think this crew will make regular appearances 😄
The gravity of the story and the uniqueness of the adventure and their bond at the end weighed so heavy on me.
Awestruck and stunned simultaneously by some combination of the barely comprehensible and the incomprehensible is an experience one does not entirely forget.
All the more so when incomprehensible is a lasting truth.
Cheers, Neal!
Do you get the topics ahead of time from Issac Arthur? Seems like your and his videos came out at the same time today? Great story again!
Thanks, axel. Glad you enjoyed! I don't get the topic sooner than anyone else, but Isaac is very disciplined about keeping a schedule, which he puts out in advance at the end of his videos. So I usually have a week or so to think about the topics before I start writing. I don't write on every one of his topics, because he somehow puts out 5 or 6 videos a month! I can't quite keep that pace, but I think about half the time I'll be writing on the same topic. It's fun for me to see where he takes it and if what I do is anywhere close.
Hugely impressed at the quality of these stories, well thought out and written so it is easy to visualize what is happening. Well done!
Thanks, Noah! So glad to hear you're enjoying them 😃
Great work. The way you built this universe, the crew and ship, everything, I freaking love it.
Insta sub. Also, I’m not sure how to put this, but the way you weave in ideas that correspond with Issac Arthur videos is amazing. I’ve been listening/watching his vids for years.
Keep up the great work. I can’t wait to hear the next mission for these misfits.
Thanks, Raider! Happy to hear you're enjoying!
Listening to these for the second time. Damn man you really can write a story. Thank you!!
Cheers, TC! Glad you're enjoying them 😃
Your stories are very well laid out in the way they cross over but also the way you make the story you're conveying very well causality-wise. In other words: it's easy to follow because you're a good story teller given the complexity of your themes. I would like to know your opinion on a series. The Reality Dysfunction is the first volume in the Nights Dawn Trilogy by Peter Hamilton. I tried to follow it more times then usually do. The thing is: I don't know what it is I don't like about the way he conducts his narrative. The material is pretty solid and the premise is awesome. I just dislike... the style... Just wondering if you are familiar with this trilogy. Keep on writing! Loving every moment of it!
Unfortunately, I'm not familiar, Holzman. It sounds cool, though. I also probably wouldn't critique another writer's work in the way most people might expect. I've trained myself to look at stories in a very observational way--as in, what's there or what are the words, events, themes, etc. actually accomplishing on the page. This is part of why I am able to put out a consistent story in such a short time frame. I pay very close attention to story structure, which helps guide me as I go. I've done breakdowns of "The First Man" and "Lost in Port Cullen" on my other channel if you're interested in that thought process. Either is a good window into how I work with respect to story structure. So glad you're enjoying. I am too for the record! I love writing, and having an audience along for the adventure makes it so much more fun!
Might be your best work. I look forward to continuing this series
Cheers, Crayfish! I like this one too. Much more to come from this crew!
Thanks for your work, much appreciated
Thanks for the support, Karen.
Awesomeness my Friend. Thanks RUclips for putting this in my recommendations. I just finished up listening to the first one. You got yourself another Subscriber.
Thanks, Blake! Glad you're enjoying 😃🙏
I love this crew. You depictions of the various characters is very entertaining.
Cheers, MH! They're fun to write as well!
Love these Yankee Chaos stories
Thanks, Ironsides! I plan to keep them coming!
This is fantastic. Sharing this. You're writing it very captivating.
Thanks, Craig! Appreciate your sharing it 🙏 Glad you enjoyed this one 😃
I LOVE the misfits~and this story is awesome!
Thanks, Karen! So glad to hear you're enjoying 🙏😃
TY!
Second time around love it even more.
So I've listened to 4 stories, 2 misfits. All good. It seems you've created a universe for context. Galactic conflict btw Trasks and eTerrans? Different races and places...the letters are a series of populated planets or star systems? Earth/sol a part, Etc. Etc.
Is there a story or stories that "defines" this context a bit more, the greater conflict? Or do we just discover it as we listen to this or that...getting pieces? I don't mind "discovering" kind of fun. There is a proverb that's says it's of God to hide a mystery and for man to find it out.
Thanks for the stories...😊
Thanks, John, so glad you're enjoying! It's my pleasure to share. For brief context, the Greater Battery is a large human civilization in the far future descended from Earth colonists (more to come on that front). The Lettered systems are a group consisting of star systems that took Greek letters in their early naming (Delta, Kappa, Gamma, etc.) The two warring factions are from large groups of systems in the Battery (Trasp and Etterus). The most powerful and influential of the Battery systems is Dreeson's, where the planetary rings of Athos and Iophos encircle two gas giants, and the nearby ecumenopolis Hellenia is the major sister system of Dreeson's. There's a playlist for the West Battery War, of which probably the first one ("Age of Deception") sets the stage best, but really, I am discovering as I go each week when I dive deeper into a new story. I did not have a clear picture as I started this crazy adventure, so I am learning piecemeal as I write. As for the proverb, even as the "creator" of these stories, I know where I would stand in that one, as I'm constantly mystified and struggling to uncover what's hidden in this growing storyworld. Wondering about my ignorance of this new history is almost as fun as learning something new each week. I think I got to most of those great questions 😄 At some point, I'm going to need to put together a guide!
@@RoweLit thanks! Good info. Really interesting dynamic! No even knowing yourself where it's all going. Looks like I got some things right and butchered others. What you said is very helpful. Your time invested is our benefit but it sounds like yours too. I know eventually there will be an end point . But until then, thanks for your effort.
Hi Mr Rowe. I've got to say this was brilliant. I loved how your universe seems so natural and believable.
I've listened to a few of your short stories but what I'm wondering is whether you have there is an overarching story or is it small collections of stories? What would you say Is the best starting point in your universe? Or should I just choose randomly?
Cheers, Adam! Glad to hear you're enjoying.
My organizing principle is chaos 😃 (just kidding!) Actually, I write by topic, so it seems very random in chronological order by upload date. There are also a few different epochs that cluster together, all of which are sorta coming into focus in differing degrees with each story, like an impressionist painting, I guess. The best way to follow the genuine overarching story thread is through the playlists. This one is the second on the Misfits playlist, which actually fits into the middle of the "West Battery War" playlist. The companion to that one "Assorted Tales from the Greater Battery" will also add context to that storyworld. Those playlists are in chronological order and should help bring the greater storyworld into context. You can check them all out here: www.youtube.com/@RoweLit/playlists
Hope this helps!
another great one. can you please put 1 and 2 etc for each story in this adventure so we know which order there in. I can't wait to see where their adventure goes next. Brilliant, Thank you.
Thanks, Veronica! Glad you're enjoying. I'll do that in the future, and pin a comment for each one so far. Hopefully that'll clear things up a bit. Thanks for the suggestion. The playlist is in the correct sequence for easy reference: ruclips.net/p/PLWl-Jc_I2wPAsngY7MCID9sS_98Y2siT5

Ya know, the thumbnail for this one reminds me of a goa'uld Cargo ship from the front view.
Is Stargate the perfect 90's Sci-Fi movie? Aviator-wearing, flat-top commando + archetypal nerd travel through ancient wormhole to meet immortal menacing alien god bent on enslaving the human race. I mean, come on. Some things are just too good.
@@RoweLit I am a huge fan of stargate. While the movie got them off the ground, i really have to appreciate the cast for the t.v. series so much more than the movie. RDA's O'niell is totally different than Russel's O'neill. The jackson persona got played much more closer together so Spader and Shanks get a whole lotta love. I'm just waiting on that immortal menacing alien god to show up in your story instead of making it another chapter in orwell's book of "PLEASE DON'T FREAKING DO THIS"
Excellent, back to back story relief from the pinched nerve in my spine! Also you should make some money in a sound booth as a voice over artist, it’s more lucrative than most people imagine and your enunciation is faultless….could slow down about fifteen percent ( three words per sec is scripted cocals speed)….anyhoo….topic….give us an antagonist, a villain not too dark, more stoopid than cunning, trips on his own laces type of geezer….look forward to more of your work mate 👍
Sorry to hear about the back, Philip, but glad I can provide a little distraction. Hope it feels better soon. Also, thank you for the kind words (and advice) on narration. I've been working hard on it recently, so to hear your words of encouragement is heartening. Much appreciated. 🙏
I was wondering if you were going to eventually use AI to generate voices? I have limited hearing and I have to focus on knowing wich character you are reading as. (My ears fault not yours). But "adastra1978" uses an AI voice I can hear perfectly!
Interesting. Thanks for letting me know, mitchell. I struggle quite a bit with that question, because it would be faster and easier for me, but I think there's something meaningful about a real human voice reading the story (I could be wrong). I do think a lot about accessibility in other work I do, but I didn't think about this aspect of it. Can I ask you, does that other creator use different voices for each character or is it simply easier for you to follow because the AI voice is clearer?
@@RoweLit I also agree on an author being the narrator also. The author has the ability to insert the appropriate inflictions and accents they see fit and as meant by the original writings.
I am just partially deaf :)
@@dammitmitchell Thanks, mitchell. I'll definitely be thinking about this as I continually assess the value of personally reading the stories.
@@RoweLit Fwiw, I really like the idea ( and the reality that you are providing ) of the author doing the narration, I hope for you to one day do the directing as well if you are so inclined. You have a good voice for this ( to my ears of course ). AI voices might take more time to get right, and I imagine more of a screenplay formatting to get the best outcome.
@@unom8 Thanks, Joachim. The benefit to AI time-wise is that AI doesn't make mistakes while reading, so that eliminates editing time almost entirely. I make a lot of mistakes reading. I also have to edit out background noise and other sound issues that pop up randomly. I understand training the AI voices takes a bit of time initially, but the time I would save editing on the back end I'm sure would more than make up for it. But, I think it's still worth doing that work for now. I agree it would be cool to see a story I wrote in movie/series form someday. I definitely don't have those chops, though. I've never worked in the industry, but I know people who do. A whole different world.
