The case this radio comes in is a plus as well and I wished the RF-2400D came with one as well. Since it didnt, I plant to make one from genuine leather - just to cover it in case it falls down or gets bumped. It would make sense to broadcast on SW the gospel since governements can hardly control people to listening to foreign radio stations. At least to censor radio listening is way harder as to censor internet use. There could be a come back for SW if democracy and freedom is more and more threathened. Or AM has to get a way stronger output.
Sir , please give me suggestion which will be best to buy radio Sony icf 19 or Panasonic rf 562d in its reception and other quality. I like radio very very much. Thanks. Regards.
Amazon really cheaps out on packing - they should do better. This Panasonic seems not to have AFC on FM - I like that a LOT! Thank you for putting this radio on my want list - plus my brother would like one for sure!
It's simple if you can use a soldering iron. Most radios have ceramic 280kHz filters. This allows easier and less expensive manufacturing. You just buy the 150kHz filter and use it in place of the original wider filter. You can make it even more selective with a 110kHz filter but I only had 150kHz units. You should know that narrower filters makes tuning a little more "touchy," you get used to tuning a little more carefully; but it's still much easier than tuning the shortwave band. I used a 150kHz Murata filter, you can look on line to see how they look. They resemble a ceramic capacitor, but have three pins instead of two. The filters should be connected the same way as the old one. One pin is input, one is ground and the other output; the filters have a dot to help identify the pins. Before disassembling the radio, set the dial to its lowest position (zero on the scale), this makes sure the dial and radio stay aligned when you put it back together. There's only one filter to replace, the rest is handled by I.F. transformers. You may hear stations that you didn't hear before due to improved selectivity.
The standard frequency is 10.7MHz, but the BANDWIDTH is usually wide for FM signals. In the United States the bandwidth is +-75kHz or 150kHz total for a "regular" FM station. This allows stereo signals with a little room to spare while minimizing adjacent channel interference. You can get different I.F. bandwidths; typical values for FM are: 280kHz, 230kHz, 180kHz, 150kHz and 110kHz. There are narrower filters but these are less common. 280kHz is very wide and very common, 110kHz is very narrow, but works with radios that don't have stereo reception. I have used Murata filters with excellent results.
I got the RF-562DD. Extra D which can operate with a dc adapter. Unfortunately I can't hear anything from shortwave no matter how I tried. A busted unit likely.
There are a lot of options. My recommendations would be the Tecsun PL-380 or PL-310ET, both are great. The speaker on the ET is a little stronger, plus you get a nice plug in jack on the side for a SW antenna. The nice thing about these radios is all of the memory included. There is an ETM function and others. I have reviewed both. Just check out my Tecsun playlist. Great way to get into the hobby..you can always upgrade later. Plus these two radios are ultra portable.
@@todderbert Get the Sony ICF-SW7600GR. I have this Shortwave radio since 2009 and I could not ask for more. Made in Japan and the quality is excellent! The only shortwave radio you will ever need.
For $50, Panasonic could have included a tone control and an external antenna jack. I think that all short wave receivers should have an external antenna jack.
This radio reminds me of my Ferguson 3158 (1960's model) LW MW SW and 9 Transistors. The Panasonic has almost the same layout and the same chrome fest. It's nice to know some manufactures look back words now and again. I know you like Tecsun and I would like your thoughts on the Tecsun PL-360. I have this radio and really think for the price it is great value and pocket size also. May be a future review perhaps.
I think you read my mind on the PL-360, that review is probably around the corner. Also I have a MW night time band scan planned for the 562D. Excellent radio just ashame it as not got 220volt ac connection cause it's easier than having to have a 3 volt adapter but nice radio an respected brand Panasonic
Sir, would you kindly give me the information is Panasonic rf 562dd ac/dc model radio available in Indian market? Is Panasonic rf 562d substitute of Panasonic rf 562dd ac /dc model radio?. Thanks .Regards.
Two different options in specifications since the Sony ICF 19 does not have short waves but if you don't care much about short waves then the Panasonic RF-2400 is the best choice
The double DD model is DSP, SW band starts at 6 mhz. Best of all surface mounted components. Impossible to repair. Also much higher current drain. My RF-562D is powered by a salvaged lithium ion 3.7 volt from a vape device. It had a p.c. board for charging with a 5 volt wall wart. To drop the voltage to 3 volts I used two silicon diodes in series. New mod. Bought on eBay a small solar panel to charge the battery. Works very good. All the radio I need for local F.M. stations. M.W. at night, and most international S.W. stations. Never needs batteries, just find more vape devices on the street. Excellent videos, keep up the good work!
It's a very nice radio, but it's difficult to tune on shortwave; it's just too touchy. I got a Sony ICF-J40 that's much easier to use on shortwave; it even has a fine tune control. It's a nice radio for standard AM and FM.
@@s.guttmann6625 I bought the Panasonic from eBay. I got lucky because a guy was selling one in the United States (as everyone knows it wasn't made for North America). It didn't tune to 1710 kHz originally so I had to extend the AM band. Readjusting AM coverage is not recommended unless you know what you're doing. If not done carefully sensitivity is decreased.
@@s.guttmann6625 It appears that the Sony ICF-J40 was discontinued. I got lucky with the Sony because I got one from eBay a little more than a year ago.
I just got mine from Amazon a couple of days ago and I am very disappointed; this is no longer an analog tuning radio and that constant chopping when you’re tuning shortwave it’s especially annoying but it’s also present on the other bands as well; The price went down to $38 and I suspect it’s because of the DSP chip they’ve now installed in the radio
@@todderbert I bought the 9700DX based on your review it's a great radio. But I really liked the looks of the Panasonic. So this week I couldn't hold on any longer and ordered one. Amazon delivered a new version - 562DD2. It's a DSP reciever with an expanded MW band. The reception in both MW and FM is stellar, FM is as good as the best DSP's. SW starts at 49m now. Overall a good addition to my collection, while Tecsun is very functional, the Panasonic is a beauty.
Great retro concept and decent sound. But the low-grade plastic and band button location scream "cheap", yet it's priced $45 on Amazon. There are _much_ better radios at this price.
The "earphone" jack is probably intended for an extension speaker, as it clearly states "8 ohms only". That is NOT the proper impedance for headphones!
todderbert I wonder if this has a DSP chip in it or it is just analog? The model number 562D makes me think it's a DSP chip. I have been pestering Panasonic for years to do a reproduction of the old iconic RF 2200 from the mid 70s. If you ever get to try one of those in excellent condition you'll know why they were loved by radio geeks for so long!
The 10K views speaks for itself. It's an intriguing retro looking radio. It's big. The case looks cool too, although not like the old leather cases that really fit like gloves. The AM band is disappointing for not having included the ext'd range up to 1710 kHz. As for headphones, I think it's monaural (as is Panasonic's other very popular big speaker portable--what), so you'll need an adaptor to get mono sound from the jack into both ears. Otherwise a nice radio with simple controls, impressive receptivity: shortwave pulled in plenty without scans; AM got far away stations. There seemed to be alot of static between stations, though; maybe that can't be helped with analog tuning. Thanks for vid; still wondering what Todderbert radio is and how you do that.
Ali Moh Thanks for the tip...It's so frustrating that Sony, Panasonic, and other major electronics companies have abandoned producing high quality portable AM and SW radios. I really miss the Panasonic RF-B65, Sony ICF-SW55, ect....the Chinese models are decent but don't have nearly the same outstanding performance and quality, durability that the Japanese units did. The last of a generation the Sony ICF-SW7600GR (Made in Japan) is still able to hold it's own when it comes to reception against the most recent models offered by Tecsun, and Sangean.
Ali Moh What's puzzling is that there is STILL a significant market for high quality small electronics like these portable radios, finally in Japan at least for the Japanese market they are addressing that with some good quality items that recall the 70s-mid-90s. I hope that grows to include the US and other markets too. The ICF-EX5 MKII is one of those throw backs to better days. It's essentially the same radio that Sony started producing in 1987 and you can still buy it new today!
"Big Speaker" ...I know, its dink. TBH, I like the tone of this one...so that is not lost on me. No real handle I could see being an issue...though it has a cool looking case, and that vinyl strap you could use in a pinch. Its a great attempt at making a retro styled classic with modern plastics..with that said it's not for everyone..and why I pitched the 9700DX at the end...same cost, and you get so much more...this is a nice shelf talker for sure :)

I have used Murata filters with excellent results.
too much confused between Panasonic 2400 & 562 please help.
The 2400D is a DSP radio along with the newer 562DD. Get the 2400D unless you need Shortwave.
Would you recommend this radio? Quality etc?
The quality is good inside, but the exterior is rather cheap. The radio is now only available as a DSP unit. I have yet to test one.
I got the RF-562DD. Extra D which can operate with a dc adapter. Unfortunately I can't hear anything from shortwave no matter how I tried. A busted unit likely.
Nice review...
Have you reviewed the Panasonic RF-1401D? It is an oldie but a goodie, sort of like a GE SR
I want to get into shortwave radio but I’m having trouble picking a portable radio. What’s the best radio under $50?
Inspired in the same model from 1970. Here in Brazil isn't by Panasonic, is Telespark ABC.
Nice old style and sound but it needs a fine tuning knob for SW!
If your interested, check out the insides of the Panasonic at my Patreon page: www.patreon.com/posts/panasonic-rf-18627668 , I usually set most of these "Insiders" to Patron supporters only, but once in awhile I like to have a few open to the public. Thank you for your comments :)
Thank you for that insight. I don't see the insides usually. There is more space in the Panasonic than the Ferguson, that's progress!
Excellent radio just ashame it as not got 220volt ac connection cause it's easier than having to have a 3 volt adapter but nice radio an respected brand Panasonic
Hello, very good channel!!!
Does anyone know where I can get the RF-562D or RF-562DD model?
I think you can still get the D model on Amazon USA.
@@todderbert thank you! On Amazon they publish it as RF-562D and they send you the DD2. 🥴
Hr30 toshiba vs Panasonic rf 562d , which one is better
information using what type of ic,the radio panasonic rf -562
Sir, would you kindly give me the information is Panasonic rf 562dd ac/dc model radio available in Indian market? Is Panasonic rf 562d substitute of Panasonic rf 562dd ac /dc model radio?. Thanks .Regards.
I am not sure, but it is analog so you will be able to tune in FM, MW and SW wherever you are in the world.
Very nice,
I want to purchase it, how it'll be possible, pl advise,I am trying it for years.
Pl advise
If you can shop on eBay from your location, that may be your best bet at tracking one down. Unless there is an Amazon service near you.
Which Radio on MW reception in daytime best Panasonic RF 562dd or sony icf19 ?
Two different options in specifications since the Sony ICF 19 does not have short waves but if you don't care much about short waves then the Panasonic RF-2400 is the best choice
Though this model went DSP version , I think whether it could get upgraded with a rechargeable lithium battery too , will be great...
So the DD version is DSP??? Information is so scarce, the only visual difference I found is that the DD version features an external power jack
@ DD2 is DSP ver.
Does it come with batteries included ?
is this with DC Socket ?
Is there any dc adapter jack point?
there is a DSP version of this radio do check that out
It's a very nice radio, but it's difficult to tune on shortwave; it's just too touchy. I got a Sony ICF-J40 that's much easier to use on shortwave; it even has a fine tune control. It's a nice radio for standard AM and FM.
Where did you buy it and is still being sold?
@@s.guttmann6625 I bought the Panasonic from eBay. I got lucky because a guy was selling one in the United States (as everyone knows it wasn't made for North America). It didn't tune to 1710 kHz originally so I had to extend the AM band. Readjusting AM coverage is not recommended unless you know what you're doing. If not done carefully sensitivity is decreased.
@@s.guttmann6625 It appears that the Sony ICF-J40 was discontinued. I got lucky with the Sony because I got one from eBay a little more than a year ago.
Would love to see the inside of the radio. Thanks in advance.
Can it receive AM ?
I just got mine from Amazon a couple of days ago and I am very disappointed; this is no longer an analog tuning radio and that constant chopping when you’re tuning shortwave it’s especially annoying but it’s also present on the other bands as well; The price went down to $38 and I suspect it’s because of the DSP chip they’ve now installed in the radio
Bummer. The glory days of new analog radios is slowly disappearing.
How much of its battery life?
is radio perfect panasonic my father have this Philips best i end Toshiba 70s etc resumo 49s..79s
I wish that it goes to sell in Japan.
Definetly looks like a radio from the mid 70s
This radio's definitely worth the price...
I thought it was a bit expensive at first, but learned that it performed well for its cost.
Is this better than the 9700DX on AM?
No.
@@nap083node431 me also bought DD2 version .
@@nap083node431. Is there silence between frecuencies or continuos tuning?
Great retro concept and decent sound. But the low-grade plastic and band button location scream "cheap", yet it's priced $45 on Amazon. There are _much_ better radios at this price.
The "earphone" jack is probably intended for an extension speaker, as it clearly states "8 ohms only". That is NOT the proper impedance for headphones!
See the picture at the 8:10 point!
Updated version has a proper earphone jack, and they've added an AC adapter jack.
Is Panasonic rf 562d Dsp radio?
All Analog Circuit.
Does it light up on dial when I turn on volume switch?
No light on the dial.
Is this a good shortwave for a beginner i know digital has key input ssb but like the all transistor design
You may want to check out the Tecsun 9700DX ruclips.net/video/pR9UaloEljU/видео.html .
best radio
I, too am surprised by this radio's performance.
I'm pleasantly surprised also. Not sure if its a keeper for me yet.
todderbert
I wonder if this has a DSP chip in it or it is just analog?
The model number 562D makes me think it's a DSP chip.
I have been pestering Panasonic for years to do a reproduction of the
old iconic RF 2200 from the mid 70s. If you ever get to try one of those in excellent condition you'll know why they were loved by radio geeks for so long!
@@watershed44. Should we make a list of interested people and send it to panasonic? Are those parts being made nowadays?
Best performance.. proud.. panasonic.
Thanks for vid; still wondering what Todderbert radio is and how you do that.
watch some of my recent videos and I show how and tell what Radio Todderbert is :)
I like videos about sw,mw radio receivers.igor belevich from belarus.
I love radio but Sony radio not available in Pakistan
इसकी कीमत कितने की है कहां मिले मुझे चाहिए
I need to by radio for to rich people in my self👋👋
I have one piece Like this Made in Indonesia
Me buy in Saudi arabia 95 Riyals in 2015 .
This radio is for middle east market, I think it suffers alot from static, little noisy.

Yes. M.E. and Asia.
watershed44 One of the best radio at same category is Sony ICF-J40, an AM DXer, look for it todderbert.
Ali Moh
Thanks for the tip...It's so frustrating that Sony, Panasonic, and other major electronics companies have abandoned producing high quality
portable AM and SW radios. I really miss the Panasonic RF-B65,
Sony ICF-SW55, ect....the Chinese models are decent but don't have nearly the same outstanding performance and quality, durability that the Japanese units did. The last of a generation the
Sony ICF-SW7600GR (Made in Japan) is still able to hold it's own when it comes to reception against the most recent models offered by Tecsun, and Sangean.
watershed44
You are right, the Japanese still shining.
Ali Moh
What's puzzling is that there is STILL a significant market for high quality small electronics like these portable radios, finally in Japan at least for the Japanese market they are addressing that with some good quality items that recall the 70s-mid-90s. I hope that grows to include the US and other markets too. The ICF-EX5 MKII is one of those throw backs to better days. It's essentially the same radio that Sony started producing in 1987 and you can still buy it new today!
Rf 5270 is better than this but this 562 looks good because it resembles an aircon.
Build quality is very cheap, can't believe its Panasonic 😏
To each their own. I don't like it. No handle, small speaker, and no tone control.
Made in Indonesia for Asian market. But South Asians won't like it as much as Sony or Philips. For the signal though clear the tone is too metallic.
