An Awesome Easter Weekend on the NS Pittsburgh Line - Part 2 (3/25/2015)

Continue from where we left off... The next spot was the usual Cassandra Railroad Overlook. Train action gradually picked up around 2:15 PM after two eastbounds, including empty slab train NS 61N with an SD70ACU (rebuilt from an ex-UP SD90MAC with more on the way). First up was a meet between eastbound & westbound intermodals NS 20Q and NS 21V respectively. After a fleet of mostly westbounds went through, loaded ballast train NS 930 headed west with some nice consist: a UP SD70M in the mix and red and white painted Herzog ballast cars, which as a whole almost looked like a candy cane. Then came a near three way meet: Westbound intermodal & autorack, NS 23M and NS 11J respectively, while eastbound coal drag NS 592 with an SD80MAC leading the way creeping up the hill. We stayed for empty trailer train NS 24R with a BNSF in the consist before heading to supper (skipping NS 19G, NS 21M, NS 15J and the westbound Amtrak).
After dinner, we were greeted to an awesome three-way meet on the open bridge at the Altoona Railwalk. First up was eastbound mixed freight NS 16N slowly making its way into the yard for its re-crew, while westbound autorack NS I7N (extra 27N) and eastbound intermodal NS 20R made its way through. We ended the day with another eastbound coal drag with the usual 60I's, NS 538.
Next part begins the Saturday of the long weekend, featuring a much improved weather.
*Note: I'm really really NOT GOOD w/ train symbols. I try to get as many as I can through my scanner or asking other railfans around me (if any).*
