I remember when he showed up at Grambling State University to attend school & he walked around super shy & people would yell across the yard, "Hey, Sister Act!" He quickly started making friends & begin singing in the talent shows. 😂😂😂
I have a whole family of cousins who graduated from Grambling. Its my cousin Brandon and his kids along with their mother Tyra who are all black Muslims and every single one of their kids graduated early from Grambling. Very proud of them.

He was one of the biggest TV stars, was just becoming a major movie star and that album in particular made him te biggest rapper in the world. 57:36 I just turned 51 yrs old in February., and I just watched Sister Act 2 late last year… and I rewinded and watched Toby sing multiple times, different parts, and cried the whole time. That’s still my movie!!! And my daughter who will be 32 yrs old this year., it’s her movie too. So I’m sure sooner than later it will become one of my 2 granddaughters’ faves too. 😊

Ryan is a phenomenal storyteller. Fantastic show. His" I ain't saying no names" had me weak.
“You in the Winnebago getting checks.” Ryan Toby so cold especially with his artistry and his talent. Just watching his enthusiasm of music is just beautiful and he is definitely necessary for R&B. The fact that he kept his humility when he was beginning to rise to such a testimony to how he was raised as a man and his enthusiasm for the love of the pen is just another example of why he has endured in the writing game. “PRESS IN” he’s a church kid. The fact that he wanted one thing (SINGLE ARTIST DEAL) early on and kept a heart for the “magic of making music” is a reason he’s still here 30+ years later shows his worth.

I’ll never forget meeting him and singing with him in New Brunswick at the historical Crossroads Theatre in the Summer Performing Arts Program. I wish I could find pictures of that time. But the culture was so different then. Back when we had calling cards and pay phones. Him and Lauryn Hill were IT for me...especially since Lauryn was from my part of (North) Jersey (shoutout to Newark, NJ) and Ryan was from South Jersey & Willingboro HS where one of my best friends went to school and grew up.

Ryan Toby and Ms. Lauryn Hill are the catalyst of why I was interested in music. I went to a predominantly black Christian school from Kindergarten to 5th grade. Sister Act 2 came out in 1993. I was 3 years old at the time. So by the time I was 5 years old, the film was apart of my DNA. Every other Friday or so, teachers at the Christian school would put Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit on the time I was in Kindergarten all the way up until I graduated in 5th. Most children would attempt to sing 'Oh Happy Day' and that high note. I grew up ALL of my middle school and high school career with Sister Act 2 as my favorite movie. I greatly appreciate R&B Money Podcast for having one of my early musical heroes to be interviewed.
