"The Only Fantasy Here Is Yours. And We Shall Be Its Final Witness."
The madlads actually did it. They made cinema.
I'm saying that quote every time I fight a final boss in FFXIV.
They got tired of the "Why's it called Final Fantasy when there are so many?" joke lol.
I mean, in Japan, the games have directly said the words "final fantasy" as far back as FFVIII (English changed that line), and even in English, it's been said in game at least as far back as Dissidia 2008
@@zingodoom Yeah, but it's never been peak cinema until now.
If it makes you feel better that wasn’t Joshua’s diary. Clive wrote that book and used Joshua’s name as a moniker like he did with Cid. If you do all the side quests there’s multiple hints at that. Clive said he would write a book after his journey was over. The book is titled Final Fantasy, a direct reference to the last line Clive speaks to Ultima. Also he was the only one who could actually tell you the events of how it ended. He’s also the main narrator of the entire game from beginning to end. And one more big piece of evidence, if you do Jill’s final side quest, she tells you that whenever the sun would rise she would feel fine because she knew Clive would be coming back. During the final scene she stops crying as the sun rises and even begins to smile. And if that wasn’t enough, the Japanese lyrics that play right after that scene translated pretty much confirms that she sees him alive during that final scene. Clive definitely lives and I would even guess they had children as that final final scene looks like direct descendants of Clive...and they just do happen to have a copy of his book ;)
“i’m going to defeat you with the power of friendship and this Flame I found”
Clive Rosfield
To be fair, Ultima had been pulling off Chuuni stuff through the whole story and calling Clive weird names. Clive was just getting in the vibe.
“I’m going to defeat you with my killer right hook”
@@Thedrewster9194 innit
“This is it Ultima this is your Final Fantasy, 16 times I’ll say it till you understand”- Clive Rosfield
I would have accepted this line and still felt amazing.
Fixed it 😤
Then he eikoned all over him, truly a masterpiece 10/10
The term final fantasy is even there in subtext.
Ultima translates to The Last in Latin.
And Mythos, the name he calls Clive means Myth, or in this case, Fantasy.
And his plan was to end Valestheia and create a new world. So in a Meta sense, Ultima turning Clive into his vessel would've resulted in Valestheia's Final Fantasy
@@323starlight i realised all recent ff games also have a keyword of "fantasy" usually in a final or insane fight.
i can't believe he actually said "it's final fantasy time" and then delivered that right hook
😐😭😭😭
That's him
That's John Fantasy
Thats what you get when a developer know he is making A GAME, and also is dipped into internet meme culture lmao
Clive is goated. Number 1 FF protagonist
"Go on, Lad" "Forevermore"
I let tears out. 😭

Together!
Onward, my son!
HOWAY, CLIVE
Dion didn't get anything to say on Bahamut part kinda piss me off though, but Elwin's appearance calm me down again.
When the 999999 wiggled onto the screen I burst into tears and laughter. What an incredibly nostalgic and and poignant final punctuation to my new favourite game of all time.
Oh God it's exactly like asuras wrath
"if you kill him you'll die!" But you'll still live
To me, it was the combination of the number of little things that I may be reading into.
With a series of 9's being a clear reference to the old damage caps, the hero attacking on the right and the enemy on the left, and the bit crushed effect sounding like the classic sound effects.
Incredible
I was already crying when he said " The only fantasy here is yours. And we shall be it's final witness!" 😅 waking up my neighbors at 4am screaming "he said the thing" haha
@@DomPreciso I did not realize that the first time through! It went over my head! That's such a nice title drop.
Weirdo
When Clive said "No Ultima, this is *your* Final Fantasy" I felt that.
😂😂😂
weird, in my copy of the game he calls him a Xenogear
@@seraphinw1in mine he says “You’ve Trigger-ed my Chrono!”
The worst part is he fucking did say that😂
@@FLYYADIGG24 the actual worst part is that in the Japanese dub Ultima really does say “I’ll make this world your final fantasy” and I’m not even joking lmao, the Clive one in English is fire tho
you don't get Final Boss theme, you get Final Clive's theme.
Considering it seems to be a remix of find the flame this is basically correct lol
Ultima Risers Them is the Final boss theme IMO
Just like how the motif of The Maker's Ruin plays whenever the WoL is the boss in 14, whenever you hear Find the Flame in 16, it means Clive is the boss
I think its everyones theme + clive so cid, and everyone who clive helped on their own way. I think game tried to reflect Ultima could've been if Clive didn't help anyone or ignored people on their way. I found that pretty cool.
*The only fantasy here is yours. And we shall be its final witness!*
Best line in this game so far
Probably in the series...
I'm glad that clive took the consideration of the player when saying that line, otherwise he will only said *"I will be its Final witness"*
@guidedsoul7914 are you stupid?
“So far?”
My brother in Christ, the game ends 20 minutes after that line.
Clive actually has a few bangers. “You are not Ifrit, I am” “what should concern you is not the strength of my Will but the weakness of your own” or something.
I can’t believe the madlads really had Clive drop a “Its Final Fantasy time” as he finalizes Ultima’s Fantasy.
are you from Fate as well?
@@MundusFate yea I’m the Mordy and Jalter simp on some of those Fate posts lol
It's Priming Time
if you stop to think about, this was really THE FINAL FANTASY since Clive ended magic
If this was a western game, it would be called final fantasy 1.
Not even the first final fantasy to have a "magic is over" ending
@@jasonk1609that was ff xii I believe so.
@@OmegaKatanaXIIIff xii didnt have a end the magic ending, the hell?
@@jasonk1609ffvi also had an “end of magic” ending
Ultimalius: "You cannot defeat me."
Clive: _*throws cinematic right hook_
Ultimalius: "Wait, _cinematic?_ *Oh..."*
You know that hook's gonna be downright brutal when it goes cinematic LOL
A cinematic punch so badass and powerful, it _hits the goddamn damage cap._
"Oh..." killed me, considering that's what Ultima says at the end of the 1st phase of the final battle, when Bahamut is present too. lol
@@PetarBladeStrok It was at that moment Ultima realized he done fucked up and pissed off the wrong people. 🤣
"The Only Fantasy Here Is Yours. And We Shall Be Its Final Witness."
HE DID IT. HE SAID IT. *blows airhorns*
Now if only he said something along the lines of “and I will repeat that 16 times if that’s what it takes!”
Thats John Fantasy for you.
I love how Clive does the most diabolical right hook at the end
A diabolical right hook to take down a (false) god. B)
That hook was so demonic it made Ifrit look like a darling little angel
On top of the OST, the actual gameplay of this final boss is great, having Ultima utilizing the Eikonic abilities you’ve received along the way just goes to strengthen the connection between protagonist and antagonist
friend, check new ost in pin comment, really epic
That's peak game design. That's how you do "movie games" properly, build an engaging story but use the uniqueness of the medium like nothing else could
And your friends. Kinda wish Jill said something else besides together.
Also it's another villain voiced by Harry Lloyd lol
Something else I love is that we start to see spells that normally we’d be able to cast in other games like Holy, it really adds on to the fact that no one alive truly understood magic
In latin "Ultima" means last, final, while in ancient greek "Mythos" means tale, "fantasy" if you will. By no coincidence, the creature Ultima seeked to create by fusing himself with Clive could be named "Ultima Mythos", or "Final Fantasy"
Woahhhh
I'm from Colombia and I played the game in Spanish but Ultima's name is Artema, kinda weird knowing that Spanish comes from Latin, should be Ultima as well. I was so confused when I finished the game and check on the internet some videos talking about the game (mostly videos in English) and everyone was referring to him as "Ultima", I was like huh? What did I miss? lol then I remembered I wasn't playing in English.
bruh
@@joeyfromanimalcrossing true
Get the hell out.
Clive started his journey as a man being enslaved for 13 years struggling to survive, bearing the guilt and trauma for the murder of his brother and the destruction of his kingdom/country. Carrying the name of Cid so that hope of freedom for bearers and the oppressed alike will never die. Now fighting his destiny and fate from being a pawn for God by creating a world where everyone is equal.
Clive literally went from zero to a hero. Definitely one of the best MC's
Damn straight
A false god at that. Ultima literally came to this world just to steal its aether, he has no legitimacy.
Probably one of the FF with best written characters. I'm not tired of saying this, but this is one of the few FF were you play as adults that behave as adults.
Loved this game, at my 40's I'm actually planning in replaying this.
When you take sidequests, Clive actually makes amusing grunts and disapproval for those that feels like a waste of time.

I thought that was the closest we were going to get to a title drop in the game (then saw the post credit stinger)
One of the best final bosses I've ever seen for one of the best games I've ever played.
I don't care what people say, this game was a masterpiece from beginning to end.
And hearing Cid's voice encouraging Clive to go on during the final fights while he's using Ramuh gave me an insane amount of goosebumps.
😂😂😂
Totalmente de acuerdo el juego ed una obra maestra de principio a fin con la mejor banda sonora de la historia.
I'm with you. Totally. My God, FFXVI became my most favorite game of all times. It not only has an amazing ost, characters, story, playing experience... But it also has soul. I fell in love with it from the same moment I played it for the first time.
Cried the hell out of me with the ending, tho. Why, Square Enix? WHY?! ;-;
Yeah, the empty open world and boring sidequests were absolutely full of soul,@@liriomoonborne7814
@@liriomoonborne7814they better give the dlcs the same treatment as the entire game, this is surely my game of the century, the music, the world everything fits right with what I'd dream of a fantasy game, perfect setting, perfect characters. One of the things I like about this fight is when they use the big hitters for the eikons, ultima says what the eikons are known for while clive says their names to show who they really are. At least that's how I saw it
naruto like
Yeah. It’s like to Clive they are sentient, while Ultima just sees them as something he can use.
And when Ultima pops his Limit Break, he starts using the heavy hitting magic in the series. Comet, Flare, Holy and (obviously) Ultima. Then he uses the first abilities you learn of both Ifrit and Phoenix, which both get countered.
Cant believe how emotional I got during this fight. It was a cinematic masterpiece. Glad i was alive to play it. My Final Fantasy.
A cinematic 999,999 damage punch on a literal god is just about the most badass thing I'll ever see in a final fantasy game and maybe any video game ever too
Clive did it. He made sure that Ultima's world was only remembered as a fantasy.
And we are its Final witness.

This fight was made much more difficult with the tears blocking my vision, the music gave me a heavy emotional response.
I haven't cried this much since the end of RDR2
Same :/ idk why but it just was a lot of tears
Tears of excitement boys. I was crying because Dion was carrying Joshua and Clive lol
Dude. The steccato version of the "Find the Flame" melody at the beginning is SUPER cool. I just can't get enough.
I really love how the trumpet section seems to create an almost SNES-esque retro aesthetic to the score.
We won best soundtrack. Thank You Masayoshi Soken
Official lyrics
Once more unto the breach, dear friends
Oh my friends, hear me
Feel the fire blazing
Feel the blizzard raging
Hear the thunder roaring
Follow our fateful calling
Step by step, we climb through the night to the dawn
Hand in hand, we stride to the light, heaven-borne
Step by step and hand in hand we march on
All as one, marching together
Ever on until a new day dawns
Beyond the farthest yon
Beyond infinity
Teeth set, hold hard your breath, dear friends
Oh my friends, hear me
Fear not the tempest wailing
Fear not the boulders hailing
Fear not the darkness surging
Fear not the brightness purging
On and on, we strive through the night to the morn
Side by side, we fly to the light, heaven-borne
On and on and side by side we march on
All as one, marching together
Ever on to claim the heavens' throne
We march together
One for all and all for one

The most based take that can ever be took.
i can see what they mean, there’s a good bit of deviation from past games and i wouldn’t blame anyone for thinking it’s not a good *ff game*. but it’s absolutely one of the greatest games of all time in its own right and i hope and beg that we get more of this for ff17
@@supersoupy4709 Only thing is that I hope in the next FF, we get more focus on party members and whatnot. FF16 IS amazing imo, but I definitely think that other characters suffered for the sake of Clive, likely because of budget constraints and money being pumped into Eikon fights, which shouldn't be an issue for the next games.

Idk, why
But this part is really amazing!
It sounds like a bright and happy adventure, but because this is the moment when we finally finish with the darkness of the Ultima, remembering the words of all the people close to us, we feel it as a sound of hope and the sound that we are strong because we have someone to protect

Clive quickly worked his way up to being one of my favorite protagonists of all time. He's the perfect balance between the modern edgy antihero and the softhearted, selfless and optimistic classical fantasy hero. He doesn't lean too far in either direction. He's extremely badass, powerful and cool while still being extremely kind, heroic and lovable.

"No, you'll never merge with Mythos to become Ultima Mythos, which is latin for Final Fantasy, the irony is that the only Fantasy here is yours, Ultima, and we shall be its Final witness!" - John Final Fantasy
Can we say how genius it is the final boss theme is a remix of "Find the Flame". Clives journey began with "Find the Flame" when he accepted his fate and became one with Ifrit. It ended here with "All as One" when with the strength of all of his friends behind him he was able to take down a god and free the land of Valisthea from the blessing of the crystals once and for all.

"Our kind do not question orders, we follow them."
"Let this be the end."
"I just fight to survive."
"Come little lamb, to the slaughter with you."
"Awaken, child of fate. Awaken... Ifrit."
"I'm a monster, and I deserve to die!"
"I'm here to even the odds. Any objections?"
"We have found you."
"You came back to me."
"Enough. I know the truth of it now. You're not Ifrit... I am."
"Now we shall become one."
"The rest is in your hands.
"Have you forgotten who I am?
"The boil must first be lanced if it is to heal."
"I bowed to you once; now it is you who shall bow to me!"
"May the blessing of the crystals go with you."
"We shared a dream! I would be the king of the world!"
"You weren't strong enough. And you call yourself a dominant."
"I thought you long dead. Do I address a ghost?"
"For every citizen who falls another can be bred. For every home that burns another can be built."
"Go, Bahamut... kinslayer."
"I am a shield of Rosaria... and I will do my duty."
"Manners, Mythos. They are men, like you and me..."
"I'll be there, no matter what you must become."

The Legacy of the Crystals has shaped our history for long enough
All of what Ultima has brought upon us...
Dominants, Bearers, crystals, magick...
...consigned to the flames.
These... These are our terms.
It's cool to see this theme come back once Ultima accepts their truth. It's a great callback to the LB moment
didn’t even realise that wow, such a phenomenal game
Amazing ending. Ultima spends most of this game speaking in convoluted riddles and casting illusions to try and blind Clive with all the individual power he’s gathered on his journey. That’s all the earlier phases, with motifs from the typhon fight. But what separates Clive from Ultima is those who supporting him along the way. When Clive fully and truly accepts that, he “finds his flame” once again. He triumphantly sways the music back into his favor, and destroys ultima to create the world Cid and so many others strived for.
I also love how Ultima ends off his moment. He doesn't say anything cryptic or ancient or wise, he basically just says "get fucked, idiot" in so many words. At the end of the day Ultima's just a very powerful guy, not a god, and he succumbed to the directionless spite that plagued so many characters in this game.
@@DarkMarxSoul EXACTLY! It shows he has no real leg to stand on. Ultima also mirrors the theme throughout the game where the "masters" think they're superior, but in reality they aren't in charge and everybody belongs on the same footing.
Ultima spends the entire game acting emotionless and calculating and then when Clive starts getting the upper hand he gets more and more angry and desperate and panicked. Like a spoilt brat who's just had his toys taken away from him.
@@IronBahamutnot only that but even if Ultima's plan does work, either that world won't last even a day or the blight would just swallow everything since Ultima is so attach to magic not knowing that magic is the reason why there is even a blight to begin with.
@@Dante999000he knows, he explicitly states in the inter-dimensional rift that “the cost for this boon would prove heavy”.
My man Soken really took Find The Flame and thought "how can I make this go even harder"
Absolutely incredible game. Every boss fight was amazing and the story was just perfect. Easily topped to be one of my favorite games of all time and favorite final fantasy ever. Such a damn good game.
As the flames in my heart burn, I will never give up!
Best final fantasy in a long time, my second favorite out of all of them
Final Fantasy 4 is still my favorite but this one might be my second, too.
Second favorite too. XIV is my #1
4, 5, 6, 7, 9 & 10 are still better.
@@HawkatanaI like how even in a troll comment you couldn't bear including FF8 as better.
@@Hawkatana7 is a very overrated game 6/10 at most
Congrats Clive. You are in Tekken 8. Your thoughts?
...fire XD
I love that this theme is basically all the battle music from the entire game. Its sooooo gooooood
It’s not tbh. It’s just Ultima theme and Clive’s theme meshed
The use of drums at 1:44 really remind me of the drums in the final boss music for Persona 3.
Finished FF16, when Clive said: “It’s Eikoning Time, and I’m all Fire Emblem’d up. You’re NieRly finished. It will be my Persona’l pleasure to take you down Like A Dragon, it will be the end of my Dragon Quest if you will. You really grind my Xenogears, I will finish your Tales off with my Xenoblade to cap off this SaGa, this Xenosaga. Your Dark Souls really Ys absolutely Mana-ical, it’s causing the blight to be Bloodborne. Omae wa, mo Shin(megami tensei) deiru. Your ambitions were just a Fantasy, your Sixteenth and Final one.”
I was so unbelievably hyped.
2:24 what I’m referring to btw.
Reading this ruined my life. 10/10.
@@LevantineR1 It Deltaruned your life.
No matter what the haters say: this game is the most final fantasy than final fantasy has been in decades.
Not everything with the game was perfect. But if they work from here onwards, i'm sure Square Enix can do it.
What
It really is! But it makes sense XIV is literal peak final fantasy. Its constantly celebrating the past games as well as coming up with its own memorable moments that rival games like VI and VII easily. I knew i wasnt going to be disappointed with XVI when they said yoshida was involved. Guy is a huge fan of the franchise and a massive matsuda fan.
@@kossemoore3342 it's a good game but I personally don't think it's peak final fantasy since every game strives to do something new. It's in my opinion hard to say something is peak when that something is in almost constant fluctuation.
But it's an opinion. Agree to disagree as they say.
I agree with what you're saying. It's not my favorite but it's a damn good game. I'd even say game of the year
@@mario_maniac9368 this year has had too many good games. I try to find one goty but this year I'm ignoring my personal rule and am naming 2 goty instead of one.
Shadow Infernal is my favorite boss btw.
"No Ultima, This world ends with *YOU*"
OMG you guys, I'm shaking.
One of if not the best track in this game😭😭😭 Soken outdid himself he’s an amazing composer!!!😱😭
This game was amazing, def touch the chords in my heart
"The only *Fantasy* here is yours. And we shall be it's *Final* witness."
Clive said the thing! 😂
The line and the music are amazing, but I didn't expect Clive's voice actor to straight up tear out his vocal cords for that final Flames of Rebirth scream.
"It's over!!!"

In the final part Claive wanted to say "this is your final fantasy"
2:16 That part always gets me.
Ultima: THE WORLD YOU SEEK IS BUT A FANTASY!
Clive: The only Fantasy here is yours, and we shall be its Final witness!
This game got slept on SO HARD last year
Once more unto the breach, dear friends
Oh my friends, hear me
Feel the fire blazing
Feel the blizzard raging
Hear the thunder roaring
Follow our fateful calling
Step by step, we climb through the night to the dawn
Hand in hand, we stride to the light, heaven-borne
Step by step and hand in hand we march on
All as one, marching together
Ever on until a new day dawns
Beyond the farthest yon
Beyond infinity
Teeth set, hold hard your breath, dear friends
Oh my friends, hear me
Fear not the tempest wailing
Fear not the boulders hailing
Fear not the darkness surging
Fear not the brightness purging
On and on, we strive through the night to the morn
Side by side, we fly to the light, heaven-borne
On and on and side by side we march on
All as one, marching together
Ever on to claim the heavens' throne
We march together
One for all and all for one
Are… are those the actual lyrics?
