I had to watch this twice. I fell asleep the first time, due to not getting much sleep last night. Our power was out because of ice and snow. I’d give ANYTHING to be in CA with you guys.
When I first played the Witcher 3 in 2016, I was completely delighted with this game. And now almost 9 years later, I still think it's the most brilliant game. There is no better one yet.
I'm doing the slowest let's play of all time in the Witcher 3 right now and I fall more and more in love with it every single episode. I understand the hype and your appreciation more and more.
This made for an awesome chat man. Listing here at work with a cup of coffee myself. Inspired me to go back and actually enjoy the Witcher 3 at my own pace!
Thank you! That’s awesome. I feel Witcher is a game you just can’t rush through. It’s such a deep world with complex characters and layered situations that take time to be unfold and develop.
This is very relateable to me bc I too first tried The Witcher 3 when the next gen version came out but I couldn't fully get into it. The learning curve and awkward combat was what haulted my enthusiasm. I am considering picking it back up again so hopefully I can push through bc all I hear is great things from the people that finished it.
You described how the world moves around Geralt, and I think it’s the exact same for Elden ring as well like as soon as you said that I immediately understood what you meant
The Witcher, Elden Ring( the other Fromsoftware games by extension), and Skyrim are my favorite games ever . Now I'm playing Monster Hunter World, and I'm having a fun time with it .
Currently wrapping up a Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough! I stand by the fact that BG3 is an absolute masterpiece. I highly recommend playing it if you are in any sort of dnd drought (or just for fun :)). Also, been going through some tough times mentally through the holidays so I haven’t really been watching your videos as of late. But every time I do they are a nice motivator to continue my passions and positive behaviors in my life! Definitely feeling better now
@@CampbellNotTheSoup ugh yes! BG3 is amazing. I played it last year ripped through it for 60-80 hours. Got stuck on a battle and stopped. I really want to play it split screen with my wife all the way through. Sorry about the tough times but glad I can help during these times. One day at a time. That’s all we can do. Tomorrow will take care of itself. You reading anything?
@ yes! I am currently reading through Priory of the Orange Tree right now, it’s quite a long book but so far I enjoy the characters as well as the world
An important point in The Witcher 3 is the difference between the quests. Some quests will change the whole world, other quests will only benefit one person or a small group. The game gives you the choice. Do you want to act for selfish reasons because you have to live somehow or do the right thing and help someone for a small reward or just be nice? You can choose to do important things, help someone or play cards, but you can choose your own path and are not pushed to be the best person ever like in Bethesda games. It feels more realistic and atmospheric than Skyrim, for example. I liked exploring that because of the backstory. It felt relatable. You couldn't hope for treasure at every point in a world so scarred by war. Many places were destroyed or abandoned and monsters moved in. You tried your best to find something to profit from, but of course you couldn't always find something there. By the way, the combat system is great in my opinion, but unfortunately you have to choose a fighting style and stick to it on higher difficulty levels, as you are very dependent on synergies between armor and skills. A focus on light attacks felt very good, though.
Some thoughts people will likely find controversial: I find it very interesting that so many people here point to games that have a "story" as being masterpieces, whereas this aspect, for me, is not important. I suspect people feel when they play these games that they have say in the story. But the way they have to be designed, I don't feel we have any particular agency while playing (although the better ones make us FEEL like we do!). Furthermore, for story, I can go read a good book (or watch a TV show or movie), and 99 times out of 100, get a narrative experience that is much better than what's in a videogame. Videogame designers are NOT authors (which is why for games like Elden Ring, they get one!). For me, gameplay itself, mechanics, and "feel" of the controls is primary. Because they're games. 🙂
The Witcher is one of my favorite game series. I didn’t understand how to play the first one and I got put turned off for a couple of years. When I gave it a chance again, around the time Witcher 2 came out, it clicked. Im playing 40k rogue trader, it’s great.
appreciate it! Trust me I will have plenty of book videos coming soon! I'm working on something a little different right now. Different from my normal coffee hang vibe. Just want to exercise my creative muscles!
Literally playing this right now and everything you're saying is spot on. First time I played it I didn't finish because it was overwhelming and stopped not too far after you did. Then I just said, I'm going to just enjoy this and relax. I'm countering some of the things you said with decision stress, by playing some Animal Well and more shorter platformer games.
I just got Animal Well! I really want to try it out! Relax a bit in between those stressful bosses in Elden Ring lol. Thank you for watching and hanging out! Means a lot.
I can recommend you Divinity: Original Sin 2 as well. Love it and the Witcher 3 as well. Took me many tries to get into the game, but when it clicked, it clicked hard. Even read the books for it to be more fun and understandable
I get what you mean, I also had issues with starting the game at the beginning, but after meeting THE cosplayer (Maul Cosplay) who looks like the perfect live-action Geralt and drinking with one of the CD Project Red writers at a game developer event I pretty much got bullied into finishing the game and it was worth it! Also, if you loved the soundtrack I recommend following their Witcher Concert announcement. Video game soundtrack concerts are phenomenal!
With the exception to Gwent lol I hated it as me role playing as a Witcher that was too impatient to learn because I was too busy doing Witcher type things 😆
@@MrSiKO12 I’ve only read the first two short story books and loved them. Id like to reread them and do a proper review of them for a video! Have you read them? Thoughts?
If you’re into the vibes of The Witcher you should check out the book Hellmouth by Giles Kristian, awesome little 50 page medieval horror banger. Have you played Dark Souls 3, I had the same experience, played it and bounced off on the first boss and didn’t pick it up for almost two years. Now it’s one of my all time favourites.
What Geralt and The Witcher 3 is to you, is Arthur Morgan and Red Dead Redemption 2 to me. Like you it took me a while to get into it. I played maybe a quarter or a third and then took a break from it. But returned after a couple years and that's when it really clicked. The world, the characters, the story, the cinematics. It's a masterpiece and the best game i've played. Nowadays i'm playing less video games and reading more, which is also why your videos got recommended to me i guess.
@@daanvandewalle3555 I love that! Red Dead 2 was amazing. The characters and world and the subtle dynamics between the gang. Just unreal. I don’t know if you’re planning on playing more souls games but I would definitely recommend dark souls 3, I felt like it was a nice step up from Elden ring in terms of difficulty but not over the top
one thing I wish the Witcher had was the slower pace of Red Dead 2. I wish I was forced to walk slow. Loot and pick items up in real time. It's those little things that make something that much more immersive.
What video game do you think is a masterpiece?
Halo

Red Dead Redemption 2
Fallout New Vegas
