I could just kiss you! This has been SO helpful. I even attended an in-person serger class and still couldn't figure out where I was going wrong. You have saved me from so much additional frustration!
Because I never seem to do 2 projects in a row on the serger and weeks or months go by, every time I thread it I have all the anxiety of a new machine. Your video is a grace!
I'm so glad I found you. The man that sold me my machine said put in the make and such and the youtube would have someone to help me. He was right, your instructions were slow and accurate and easy to follow. Thanks a lot!
Thank you so much for making this video! I haven't sat down to play with my serger for many years. I bought it in 1997 (when it was more expensive than my first used car). I forgot all about moving that little hole over to the right to line up with the other looper. You've saved my night.
Thank you so much! I got a Husklock 905 from my mom a couple decades ago with no book and followed the threading guide on the machine. I've fussed and cursed and given up using the thing for years. Then I found your video and it's amazing how much easier it is to run the blue thread when I have the PROPER instruction.. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
Hi, I bought a used Huskylock 905 today. I have never used a serger in my life. I followed your video and got it up and running first time. So thank you for providing this excellent resource.
Will Spencer Great! If the machine hasn’t been used recently, be sure to oil it. Open the door and put a drop of sewing machine oil wherever metal meets metal on the moving parts. You can turn the handwheel while the door is open in order to see where movement is.
@@susancleveland4799 Thanks Susan. I oiled as per the instructions in the manual just to get started. But now I will follow your advice and oil all the metal on metal moving parts. Cheers.
Thank you sooooo much for this video! I bought a Huskylock from a garage sale and it did not come with an instruction manual. I could not get it to sew correctly without threading it correctly. Again, thank you.
It’s a while since Zi used my Huskylock, and I was struggling with threading it. I have the video, but nobody has video machines these days. Thank you for putting this very helpful instruction film on You-Tube. You saved me a load of stress.
Best explanation ever! Slow, methodical, clear. I have been struggling to thread the inner areas of the serger. I didn’t know about the lever that exposes the inner, hard to reach, parts!!! Many, many, many, many thanks!!!
Wow! For the first time ever, I successfully threaded my machine correctly the first time. It usually takes me three or four times to get it right. You make it so easy. Thank you. I’ve always hated changing out my threads and delay until I really need a different combination of colors. I’m bookmarking this video.
I have had the overlocker for a few years now, but I still cannot thread properly, I now follow exactly how it is explained, but the thread still breaks and locks just fine, I am going to watch the video a number of times, I agree with it works, thanks for the good explanation.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have the Huskylock 936, and I kept missing something n the lower looper and saw your video and I now know what I missed. This was perfectly explained and I could see what I needed. I used to think threading this thing was a horror, but not anymore.
Like others, I haven't used mine in a few years, and after thousands of hours and many curse words trying to thread this thing, and finally finding this video, I am back up and running! Thank you sooooo much! I almost took it to the repair person because I thought it was broken. Gah!
Just one more comment: This video has been an absolute lifesaver. It could not have come at a better time. I am mending and fixing a lot of Angel costumes that have been a mess for years for the Church Christmas pageant and was extremely frustrated with my Serger. I was stuck until you made this new video. I am so touched that someone I don't know would make this video for a complete stranger. You are my Angel!! I can't thank you enough. Now I will finish in time and the costumes will come out better than I expected. Thank you Susan! You are an answer to prayer. :-) I thought I would have to buy a new Serger, but thanks to you, I finally know how to properly thread this machine. I think I have it mastered. You are awesome!!! Wish we lived close so we could sew together. Hehe.
Anne Wise Hi Anne! This is a model 905 and doesn’t have coverstitch capability. The 936 model does, which I do not have. I hope you can find another video to help you with that.
Before watching your video spent 1.5 hours in frustration trying to get my 905 re-threaded properly. Ooooohhhh, there's a bar that gets moved to thread the lower looper - who knew! I would suggest that if you ever re-make this video, use a different color thread for each looper and needle, and a little more light pointed inside. But you were straightforward in explaining and I thank you very, very, much!
I'm sorry you spent so much time and frustration before finding this video. If I ever re-make or do another video, I'll definitely use better lighting and colored thread that can be more easily seen. This was my first go at making RUclips instructional videos. Glad it helped!
Thank you sooo much! I was working off the video from Husqvarna Viking for two hours and just frustrated. The first time watching your it worked you are awesome Thanks again. I am putting you in my Library.
Excellent video. I have this serger and was having trouble threading it. I was ready to sell it and buy something else. It is working perfectly now...just adjusting my loopers. Thanks so much.
Love your video. It would be great if you did it again with white thread. I have a hard time seeing and it would make it much easier with the white thread against the black/dark background. Thank you for taking the time to do this video. If you do make another will you link it to this one?
Ahhh, that lower looper thread final step--running it between the cutter and the foot--may have saved my sanity. I've had this thing for nearly 15 years and when it's threaded, I love it. But when it comes undone...so do I. Thanks!
I am 100 % sure i threaded my 901 EXCACTLY like you did in this video, but I can not for the life of me have it work. Previous owner claims it worked, but after almost 6 hours making it work, I'm starting to think it's somehow broken.
Really appreciate your time in doing this video, it sure helped being a total beginner. Someone had told me that I can make it a three thread and not to worry about using an extra thread and needle. Is that correct?
Yes, Maria, it can be a 3 thread stitch. Remove either the left or right needle, depending on how wide or narrow you want the stitching to be. Narrow is remove left needle. Wide is remove right needle. You'll need to adjust tension dials to get good results. Keep in mind that when removing a needle you'll only have one line of seam stitching. My opinion is that I like having the double line (both needles) of seam stitching especially on knit fabrics. I rarely used 3 threads as a seam stitch. One of my favorite things to do with 3 needles is a "rolled hem" on napkins and table runners: First, remove left needle. Here’s some starting points: stitch length 1.0, differential N, stitch finger R, needle position D, cutting width 5.0 or 6.0, thread tension- red N, green N, blue 6. You’ll be removing the yellow (left) needle. Threading red (right) needle, and both loopers. To achieve a wavy, lettuce edge hem (pretty on knit fabrics), adjust differential until you get desired results. Of course, different fabrics require different settings. What I did as a beginner is take pics of my settings, then adjust to see if I could get the results I wanted. I could always re-set to the original by consulting the pic on my phone.
Doyou have any additional videos for the huskylock 905 serger. I have one and I need to know how to do a rolled hem. I want to master this machine so bad.
Shannon Payeur Sorry, I don’t. The rolled hem is easy- here’s some starting points: stitch length 1.0, differential N, stitch finger R, needle position D, cutting width 5.0 or 6.0, thread tension- red N, green N, blue 6. You’ll be removing the yellow (left) needle. Threading red (right) needle, and both loopers. To achieve a wavy, lettuce edge hem (pretty on knit fabrics), adjust differential until you get desired results.
I have a question. I just purchased the husqvarna serger machine. The owner informed me that it has been sitting for 4 years. The machine looks practically new, but I can tell it needs a little cleaning. Now, this is my question. The machine turns on, but the handwheel is not moving. Do you think it just needs oiling?
Hello! As I’m not an expert, I would suggest a clean, oil, and adjust servicing by your local dealer to get all of the moving parts functioning at their optimum. Enjoy sewing!
Barbara MacFarlane Hi Barbara, I have used the serger set in a “3 thread rolled hem” or a “3 thread narrow” modes to hem lightweight stretch fabrics. It doesn’t give a top stitch look, like the hem of a knit top, but the rolled hem does look quite nice. Navigating a circular hem is a bit tricky- the fabric must feed straight in to the cutters. If you have scrap fabric to practice on that would be good. Tensions most likely will need adjusting. I like to make note of the current settings before adjusting any tensions.
Um, this would be much better if you could actually SEE what she is doing threading the green. I can't tell if the threading goes behind the double needles or in front when you do the last step as you pull it to the left. VERY frustrating for a newbie to this machine. Plus, I'm sea sick now. :(
@@susancleveland4799 I have a question, if you would not mind answering, if you would rather not, I understand, I have large loopes, on the understand, when I serger, I think it is threaded right., first serger. Thank you
Jo Mortimer My first guesses would be- make sure all threads have “snapped” into the tension discs. Next, put all tension dials on 4 and try it out on a double layer of cotton fabric. From that point, if it’s still loopy, you’ll need to adjust tensions. If you can determine which thread is loose, that helps. But if not, try tightening the blue (lower looper) to 5. Give it another try. If it’s better, but not quite good, tighten to 6. If not better, re-set to 4 and try tightening the upper looper (green). Sometimes needle tensions need adjusting, too. I’ve found it can vary with different fabrics. Once you find correct settings, write them down and also make a note of what type fabric. When testing out, I start with differential and stitch lengths on “N.” Hope this all makes sense. There’s most likely other RUclips videos about setting serger tensions. Good luck!
It would be nice if someone that made a close up video got their fingers out of the way, zoomed in closer and used a light right on the mechanisms. I’ve watched 5 videos that are taped exactly the same. You can’t see anything!
