If you were using Stevens grip or an alteration of Burton grip you would generally play runs with both inside mallets. But traditional Burton grip uses the inside mallet on the left hand and the outside mallet in the right hand for runs.
That's a great question. I've seen most Burton grip users doing the same, however I use Gary's grip and do use the inside mallet on both hands for runs and sometimes the right outside one as well, I don't think it matters. The more flexibility in your technique .....the better.
