1:12:25 It's not just "the person he trusts most." It's specifically "the *dead* person he trusts the most." A dead loved one is probably way more effective to break the illusion and snap you back than one who is still alive since it directly contradicts your memories and should be your greatest loss you ever experienced so far. That's why it had to be Paul and not one of his wives or Cliff or Zanoba.
18:51 It’s not entirely dumb luck, since Orsted seemed to know of the ring and told him to keep wearing it. Orsted might not have mentioned it because Rudeus has a tendency to overthink and may have revealed his hand even with his own thoughts, had he known the rings purpose.
While that is true it doesn't really excuse that Orsted hasn't told Rudeus about Vita and his abilities at all. And mind you this is coming from a MT glazer. The ring and Vita were written a bit sloppily and I think it's fine to admit that. The bigger picture and what it lead to is still awesome so I don't mind it too much.
I really don't get the "repetetive" complaint? If this was stretched over multiple chapters then you would maybe have a point but this was only 1 chapter of these little vignette "what-ifs." The repetion is also very important because it hammers home just how inescapable Vita is if you don't have an external "out" like Rudy has in this situation. Vita can spawn and trap you in endless happy loops and keep you dreaming forever - this would have been game over if Rudeus didn't have that external help that Paul represents and the loops really show that off. It also helps thematically to once again hammer in that Rudeus' main goal and happiness in life was always and will always be his family - that's why it's repetetive and why it makes sense that it all always comes back to him establishing a family with someone - it's his raison dêtre. Obviously this is subjective but sometimes it really feels like you try really hard just to find something you can dislike so you can clickbait it in the title with "I HATE THIS CHAPTER (and kinda like it, tehe)" and we can all see that you are doing that... it's kind of annoying tbh. But hey if it gives you more views to always try to be kinda controversial for the sake of it and it keeps the lights on then go for it, I guess. This isn't meant as an insult or anything like that, I really enjoy your MM in general and it's awesome to see you experience my favorite novel over all these months but I just felt like I had to finally voice this criticism/complaint for once because it really bothers me.
As much as I agree that I didn’t feel this chapter was “repetitive” (imo it stopped when it would start to be annoying) I don’t think that should be an absolute, people perceive things differently (SHOCKER). There were a lot of points in the story that I liked more that he didn’t like as much (Millis arc for example) and vice versa. I see your point about disliking the repetitive storytelling in this chapter; I too am easily frustrated by this kind of thing (for example it made me enjoy ReZero not as much as I probably could have). In this case however each segment highlights how, in his second life, Rudeus' closest bonds have all become an inseparable part of himself; imagine a future without Eris, Roxy, Sylphie, Paul or even a world where Zenith is still lucid -- in each scenario Rudeus is missing a cornerstone of what has made him, his experiences, and all comes crashing down. Even though the individual scenarios play out similarly in concept there is a distinct thematical shift between each one, which is why I still really liked this chapter.
The Mangod is the one who told Vita about the working of the ring and how to scape. And although this is luck, in Blue Lock there is a great explanation how luck works and it's not just a passive thing, you have to attract it. Rudeous got the ring by making Death God his ally, he worked for it without knowing the result he placed himself in a position to attract the luck he ended up receiving. And in Mushoku Tensei context, don't forget Rudeous strong Fate.

An important part of not having his wives there is because it'd break the illusion. It's an old saying, one who knows the truth can recognize what's fake. His true love for his wives would make clear he doesn't love any of those women. And the fact the illusion automatically broke once he woke up with Aisha is exactly because that curiosity/fantasy is never something that could become real since he doesn't have any desire for his sister. He could never see her like that. So he automatically woke up.
Happy new years Andrew, I wish you nothing but a prosperous and loving year for you and yours . I hope that all these Foo's watching can bring those rookie numbers up and smack that like button your ,doing an awsome job bro keep it up.
I really love Mushoku Mondays (I’ve already read the entire novel). I watch it for your commentary, and I get the point that these last three chapters were a little weird or even bad at certain points. But man, that’s a looooot of hate lol.
I originally thought it was odd to not have a nanahoshi what-if, but then I thought about it. Nanahoshi’s desire to go home would have made the idea of romantic feelings developing between her and Rudeus a tragic scenario, as a drastic sacrifice on one side or the other would have been made. A) Nanahoshi gives up on going home, but ultimately she succumbs to mana-sickness. B) Their relationship will only last until she found a way to return home. C) Rudeus decides to return home with her, leaving his life here behind. It is also a scenario which Vita would have a hard time manifesting without knowledge of what Japan looks like outside Rudeus’s limited memories. Additionally, this would have happened without Fitz introducing them, nor would Orsted be able to exist in this scenario as his existence could remind Rudeus of his goals, and that he is being manipulated.
Vita makes illusions that Rudeus himself thought about. At that moment, he thought/wanted 18+ the most. Vita made illusions based on Rudeus' memories and thoughts. That's why Nanahoshi wasn't there.
Oh, I was waiting for this one. Honestly, I really can't wait to see how the anime adapts this one. Also can't wait for the reactions and breakdowns when it gets to this particular piece in the anime.
This is not the first time Rudeus portrays a connection with Zenith. During the Millis volume when Rudeous is at Claire's door demanding Zenith to be returned he's desparate and begs full of emotion "I'm her son". This was before the blessed child and I was super moved. However while reading, you just skipped it, you read without paying attention, because you were creating theories at the time.
1:13:00 It's not cheese. Man-god told him. Demon King Vita said that Man-god helped him evade Death God Raxus, so it's not a stretch that he would have told him about the ring and how it works because Man-god would be able to see it, either by seeing Vita's future or Raxus'.
I believe Rifujin in an interview that this chapter was inspired by Rezero Arc 4. Though ofc Rezero had the starting conditions necessary to pull this off a lot more effectively, with two characters with vague unknown pasts which were just waiting to be explored through a dream sequence, and established magic that was advanced enough that it didn’t seem all that outlandish for repeatable memory retrieval and playback to be possible. Also Rezero having Return by Death naturally made What-If scenarios feel more real as Subaru’s abilities naturally create a lot of questions about how real a what-if scenario might actually be, as it doesn’t just exist as an illusion.
As a side note, all three of his wives are aware of how Aisha feels about him. They are sorta in the "just make up your mind and we'll figure it out then." But at this point in the serious, they've accepted that it's not going to happen. However, in earlier parts, they do talk about how it might happen and what it might mean because of her feelings. towards him.
Well... In all the timelines when Ariel didn't have Sylphie with her, she had that Derrick Redbat guy instead, didn't she? But the timeline where Rudeus exists is the timeline when the Displacement Incident happened, and Derrick died as a result of it. So if Sylphie isn't there, then it doesn't make sense that Ariel would live long enough to get to Sharia.
