Pendeford Airport & "The Man in the Sky".

This is a brief historical record of Wolverhampton Airport (Pendeford) and is published to commemorate 50 years since it closed in 1970.
The video identifies the location of the airport and highlights some of its main features. It contains still frames from the Ealing Studios film “The Man in the Sky”; primarily to illustrate the airport as it was in 1957.
Wolverhampton Airport (Pendeford) - sometimes referred to as Fordhouses, should not be confused with the currently used Wolverhampton Halfpenny Green Airport at Bobbington in South Staffordshire.

Thank you for your kind comments. By my reckoning, Fuchsia Drive is within a few hundred yards to the west of where the control tower was. Pretty much in the centre of operations!

Anyone who has watched Beachybugz's 2012 video "The Man in the Sky 1957 WOLVERHAMPTON film Location clips" can't fail to be grateful for this much better production. That potentially great idea was spoiled by things like dark blue captions on dark grey backgrounds and a very odd choice of music. The opening of this video with the old maps and superimposed location is far more technically assured. Great work, Young Man!
