At the time we were there, the airport was canvassing for support to keep it open. If its now sold for housing, that will be the end of aviation there. Sadly, there are so many airfields under threat from development. It's not only the loss of Nottingham's wartime history, it'll be the loss of a thoroughly good GA airfield 😔

Thank you for your comment. Very interesting. Oh for a time machine to witness the comings and goings at Madley back when your Dad was there! While there's not a great deal left, you should still get a sense of it being an old airfield. Good luck!

Thank you for your comment. For a short while in 1932, there was indeed a flying field at Whitnash. It was on the site of the Acre Close Park/Recreation ground. The subject airfield's licence was most certainly named Leamington Spa (Bishop's Tachbrook).

@@YoungManGoneWest Whitnash extends as fas the Fosse Way and the land between the railway and Harbury Lane has always been in Whitnash now town boundary speaking as a local historian and present deputy Mayor of Whitnash thanks, whatever name it was called it was in Whitnash not Leamington

My apologies...I misunderstood that you were only pointing out that the airfield was IN Whitnash, which of course is quite correct. I have also seen references by other local people referring to the airfield by that name but for reasons that are unclear the RAF, the Air Ministry and others chose not to officially name it as such. Many airfields were named so as to prevent confusion with other town/City names. Whitnash could have perhaps have been confused with Whitchurch (Bristol)? Who knows! Thank you once again for taking the time to comment on the subject.

There have been a few folk who have pointed out that some of the photos must have been taken a liitle later...perhaps some a tad before. In retrospect, I shouldn't have dated the video as "in 1985" but please don't shoot the messenger!

Well I did notice a mk3 golf .and a few other early 90s car models. Plus I know merry hill wasn't fully built in 85 .in one of the photos there are cranes working on the existing building. I'm guessing that was 87.

The photos came in a folder dated 1985. The shots of Merry Hill with cranes around must have been around 1985 because the final phase of the centre was completed in 1989. Perhaps some of the other photos are later though...no idea about the cars.

@@YoungManGoneWest the monorail only started bein built in i think 1990. Being a monorail fanatic, aaahhh im not complaining, love nostalgia

@@YoungManGoneWest in the photo with the uci billboard (with cranes in the background) it has the films: primal fear(?), executive decision, mr Hollands opus, muppet treasure island and from dusk til dawn on there, all films released in uk in spring 1996. Plus the cinema was not there in 1985 nor was the monorail. The cinema opened in late 1988, the monorail opened in 1991 and shut in 1996. The cranes may have something to do with retiring the monorail - who knows. In december 1985 (when merry hill began trading) only 3 stores were open: MFI, Atlantis electrical and Harris Queensway (all located at the top where home sense is). The rest of Merry hill in 1985 was merely a concrete and girder skeleton, certainly not thriving like these pictures. Louise is indeed accurate with her estimation.
