Asian elephants are definitely friendlier and mellower than African elephants. It probably wouldn't be safe to stand so close to the mother while playing around with her baby with African elephants, since the mother would be more likely to become aggressive towards anyone getting near her baby.

No riding of elephants, no elephant massage, no elephant painting, no playing with baby elephants on the streets an don the beach, and no elephant mendicancy.
I still don't think these two elephants are free now, by observing the elephant caretaker is holding one of those weapons used to subdue elephants. These caretakers can never stop using it!
