This baby elephant was found wandering alone and lost from its herd. Wildlife officers immediately brought this baby to one of their bases as a way to keep it safe. The officers have been looking for the herd for some time. Just take your time to look at this footage of this beautiful, humble baby elephant drinking milk and making loud noises asking for more.

Exactly what I was thinking. Poor little depressed anguished abandoned baby elephant stuck in a cage with nothing in it. It doesn't get much worse than that.

Poor soul, he cries for his mother. The fact is that he has to stay where he is until he is strong enough to live in the wild. Elephants are very intelligent and sociable creatures but they may reject an orphan.

You should never leave a baby alone. There should be someone there all the time. The are very social. In the wild they would never be alone. Just a little advice. Glad they are being taken care of.
@Alex Thomson jayne is correct. They shouldn't be alone. And his enclosure should be more interesting than a dirt floor and 2 tree trunks. He needs grass or hay. Maybe a ball to play with.

@Alex Thomson Why is there such a negative reaction towards any comment , suggestion on improving a Baby's lot. How are they wrong in saying (1) this baby is lonely, needs some Loving, company (2) some thing to with.
Why would we compare this with a circus animal, or other gruesome tortured animals lot? Do we do that about our own babies, just give them food, and basic materials so they would breath, and say be happy you are not on the streets?
And all that folks are saying is some one to treat this Baby Elle as a baby.
Expressing Affection and Love do not cost money, but is as essential for a baby as food

We all can see his loneliness . He need at least 1 friend or maybe just a pond or something to play .
not old enough (At the time of vid) to be in a pond, they often get stuck and odds of injury are incredibly high! He just needs a stack of hay to lay on, a blankie around his torso, and a caretaker. Like human babies when elephants are born, they need a ton of sleep and they suck on their mother’s teat. In orphanage nurseries, they take to sucking on the fingers/hands off their caretakers/ keepers. You can see it in the way he’s stumbling and how seems to be chasing the hand of whoever is on the other side of that grill.

@@lindacusano9099 This is a temporary place while they search for its herd. Failing that, it will be sent to the Elephant Orphanage where it can be properly taken care of. If you’re criticizing these people who’re trying to take care of it in the interim and say that they should assign manpower or resources which they don’t have, I welcome you to fund them to bring your vision to reality.

the baby elephant would not survive without a herd in the wild. they are very vulnerable to predators that's why these people took him in. until he's in the right age or big enough to roam around without adult elephants, he will have to stay there.

Baby boy is so little and alone. Very sad baby got lost and seperated from Mum and herd. Of course, not ideal but atleast baby is safe and well fed. Hope the rescuers get more funding to enlarge the enclosures and provide better care. I guess, if baby was left alone in the wild to find and be reunited with herd then most likely, he would have been in serious high risk of not making it to see another day due to other wild animals and lack of survival knowledge and strength. Baby boy is completely dependent on milk and not even close enough to be able to defend himself. Hope the rescuers find elephant Mum and herd. However, if not found then hope the cute baby boy elephant is accepted by another herd soon. At least baby will grow up learning how to live as an adult elephant.

Yea go set the orphaned baby elephant free and see how fast it get eaten by a predator.
Oh for heaven’s sake. These are rangers of the nature reserve, taking care of the baby elephant who was found lost in the jungle, separated from its Mom and its herd, hurt, scared, dehydrated and malnourished. They treated it and are caring for it until it can reunited with the herd or failing that, sent to the Elephant Orphanage. Did you expect the rangers to leave the baby elephant (and it’s a literal baby, only few weeks old) in the jungle to starve to death or to be killed by predators?
My salute for the wild life officers in SRI LANKA . They are well trained and professional. Thanks to everyone for taking care of this little baby ❤️

@@MsEvie15 Yes of course. Some European families took responsibility for that kids during their maturity. Udawalawa Elephant orphanage facilitates them for their volunteer involvement.
Sri Lanka and United States relationship on the elephant goes to several decades ago. At the time of President Ronald Reagan Sri Lankan government grant baby elephant as the diplomatic gift.

Its not a zoo. Its a reserve. This elephant was found orphaned. No idea about its mother too. So they are feeding it until its time to release it.
If they release it now. It will be on the mercy of other wild animals.

Apologies if I'm wrong but I have heard there's a high chance of baby animals getting rejected by its own parents and family if there's a human scent on the baby. Also as this baby elephant is so young, there may be a risk of not wanting to return to its herd due to closeness with humans, refusing to join or being accepted by another herd due to unfamiliarity of behaviour = lost chance to gain survival and elephant life knowledge from fellow elephants = life in captivity (dependent on human support). I think but not 100% sure.

If they can find the herd, it’ll be reunited with its family. If not, it’ll be taken to the Elephant Orphanage. When its older, and if suitable for rehabilitation, it might be sent to the Elephant Transit Home, to be prepared to be released back into the wild.

A lot of people seem to think that they are “imprisoning” the elephant. He was found in the forest and from what I can tell, he’s around the age where he still relies on his mother’s milk. If they left him in the forest he could have been killed by hunters or other animals in the forest or would’ve starved to death without the right nutrition from his mother’s milk. I think once he was strong enough they would’ve released him back

For heaven’s sake, read the damn description before you criticize. This is a lost baby elephant the nature reserve officials are caring for while they search for its herd. Its being treated for infection, malnutrition, dehydration in the meantime.
