The monument in the park commemorates German massacre On October 21, 1941, when German soldiers went on a shooting rampage, killing 2,800 of Serbian civilians, including whole classes of school children where the park is now. Small rocks that you saw have engraved notes that children wrote in their notebooks just before they died. The most famous one is that the School's Principal said to the shooting squad: 'Shoot now, I am still teaching!'
Actually the number of victims identified is 2796. The main mass shooting in the town itself was done on the 21st but rest of the murders in nearby villages took place on the 19th and 20th. Also the correct way to prounounce the name of the city is Kraguyevatz. Anyway, I enjoyed the video, especially the drone footage, even tough you didn't go much into history. Стрељано је 7300 Срба и нешто Рома, од тога 300 малолетника. Та цифра се једина помиње од 1941 до 2000 год., када су на власт у Србији доведени амерички и немачки плаћеници, који су почели да умањују Србске жртве, које су западњаци нанели Србима кроз векове, па тако и број убијених у Крагујевачким Шумарицама.
Kragujevac was the capital of Serbia from 1818 - 1839, before the capital was moved back to Belgrade. Belgrade was first mentioned as the capital in 1403.

Kragooyevatz (that's how it's pronounced!) It's a nice big city, very clean. The name comes from the word Kraguj for the Black Vulture that used to be more common there. Lake Bubanj pronounced BUBANY. Not sure where it got its name but it could be from the noises that bugs make, and bubanj means drum. ex. bumblebee makes buzzing noise.

It is pronounced KRAH-goo-yeah-vats.I think you guys never tried cheese pie (pita/gibanica sa sirom). It is as traditional as ćevapi or Kaymak, you can't leave Serbia without trying it. It is DELICIOUS! The best one I have ever tried was in Kraguyevac, so there is your opportunity.
Welcome to our city. One little trivia... In Kragujevac, in WW1 was shoot down the first military airplane in history. Art. soldier Radoje Ljutovac shot down Austo-Hungarian airplane.
'j' in Serbian is pronounced always as 'y' in 'yo-yo' /ˈjoʊ.joʊ/ or 'you' /jʊ/, Never as dʒ as in 'job' /dʒɑːb/ EDIT: I didn't mean this to criticize, I love that you are trying to pronounce the words correctly and your mistakes make me laugh :) I think Serbian is difficult because of some of these similar but different sounds and 'j' is just one of them :) On a positive note, everything is pronounced exactly the way it is spelled, it just takes time to get used to that.
Hi guys! I just wanted to say thank you for visiting Serbia and my hometown 😊 But most of all, thank you for making my very depressed and shitty day much much much better! I’ve spent 3-4 hours watching your videos on RUclips and all I can say is - keep up the good work! You guys are amazing!! 🥰
Welcome to Kragujevac 🤗🍀 I want to tell you why is Kragujevac first capital of modern Serbia. After we (not whole country) got free from Turkish empire in "Drugi srpski ustanak" in 1815 Miloš Obrenović (then our prince) decided to take Kragujevac as a first modern capital, because Kragujevac had a good strategic position, it was (and still is) in the middle of the country and Kragujevac was far from enemies. Because of that decision, Kragujevac in that time went through massive growth, we have first theatre (Joakim Vujić), First grammar school, first newspapers, first court, first pharmacy and so on... Thanks for this video it was nice seeing it 🥰
You also must try : pihtije, ajvar, čvarci, bela čorba, punjena paprika, sarma, svadbarski kupus, jagnjetina ispod sača and for desert baklava, tulumbe and tufahije. "Prijatno"
It seems like this video was filmed several weeks ago because I notice that the deciduous trees aren't even leafed out yet, but I am sure, now almost a week into May, that they are mostly leafed out.
The "lake" from the beginning is situated in industrial zone, if you get some spare time, you should visit the one in Šumarice, it's much bigger and imho nicer (it's kind of close to memorial park). Speaking of memorial park, the "broken wing" monument is more known as V/3 ("Peto tri"), see more details at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kragujevac_massacre. Btw you have audio with proper pronunciation on Kragujevac's wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kragujevac ;) Greetings from (used to be a) Kragujevčanin ;)
Serbia has continental climate unlike England with its mild ocean climate. Now is spring, time of the year when weather is very changeable and unstable. one day hot, tomorrow cold, rain and sun... from May it will start to get hotter and hotter with stable warm weather
Hi guys...Nice to see people are interested in this part of world... just to mention this monument is memorial to 3000-7000 people (including school children and their professor's) that were gathered in this city and executed in one day by the German nacist occupation forces... I dont want to start any discussion just stating facts. That sad history is history and should be remembered, forgiven and never again allowed to happened to anyone nowhere in the world. The only way humanity can survive and thrive is to be humane!!!

Hello Molly and Matt have a wonderful day wow another amazing vlog beautiful place and nice drone so beautiful take care guy’s and enjoy your beautiful adventures 👏👏👏💖💖💖👍👍👍
As difficult as it sounds Serbian (and most former Yugoslavian) spelling has one unique feature. There is no misspelled word possible. If heard correctly you cannot misspell the word as soon as you learn 30 alphabet letters. One letter, one pronunciation. Read exactly as it is written and write exactly as you speak rule. As an example you can try this game with 2 Serbians. Get two of them in separate rooms. Make up the word with random letters, write it down and give it to first Serbian to see it. Take him to the second Serb tell him to speak the word he saw on your paper and watch the second Serbian writing down your made up word with no misspell letter no matter how difficult the made up word was. Then repeat this with any other language speaking people and see what will happen.
Thx guys for presenting my home town in a such nice way. Not to complain but just for you to know and other that are watching, few things: It's hard to pronounce but it is Kragujevac - Kraghooyewatz and Bubanj Jezero - Boobany Yezero / Drum Lake. Not far from memorial park, there is a bigger lake Shoomareetze Yezero - Sumarice Lake. Reason to come back again ;). Explanation of First Capital of Modern Serbia means that it was a Capital of Principality of Serbia before Belgrade. It was proclaimed on May 6th 1818. Thanks again!
Just remember that in Serbian language letter J is always, always pronounced similar to the letter Y in English. It is never pronounced anything alike J in English. :) Therefore, Kragujevac is Kraguyevac, and lake Bubanj is lake Bubany. ;)
I noticed you struggle to pronounce when letter J is in serbian words, try to pronounce like you read Y instead of J: KraguJevac>KraguYevac , Jelena>Yelena, Jugoslavija>Yugoslavia. Btw excellent video keep them coming (:
Love your energy! You should definitely come back once the pandemic is over and experience the bustling nightlife or simply enjoy your time here without any covid restrictions. Kisses from Kragujevac :)

I like how you leave the video on a cliffhanger. As we don't know what's coming next. I thought you might be going to Vranje or Pirot from Leskovac, but than you just pop up in Kragujevac.
Thank you for nice video about my hometown! :) Unfortunately it is not "tourist friendly" as for instance Belgrade or Novi Sad but it has a lot to offer. The lake from the beginning of the video (Bubanj) was made from old clay mine and has shape of a heart. Very nice place during spring and autumn :) Close to the main church are First theater and first gymnasium of central Serbia and "Amidzin konak" which is a 19th-century Turkish-style residence. 7 minutes from main church there is another (older) church with first Serbian parliament. Not far from memorial park Sumarice is lake with some beautiful restaurants. There are also some museums in the city but I am not sure if they are open due to Covid-19 situation. Have fun in Serbia!
I am gladd u visited Kragujevac and Leskovac because... Everyone who come to Serbia visits only Belgrade and Novi Sad, sometimes Nis and Subotica and it is it.
12:30 i am worked as TV salesman, TESLA is famous serbian brand of TV. Also, we have FOX and VOX. But, i can say, TESLA is the best in average, at the moment.
Kragujevac is not nicest and the most touristic city in Serbia. But, it has very imprtant historical weight and its cheap for life. This region is not the poorest region in Serbia, Kragujevac is not pooorest city in Serbia, but is cheap in comparation with biger cities in the country. For example. Consumer basket for Belgrade is 77 000 dinars, Novi Sad 82 000 dinars. Kragujevac 69 000 dinars. Kragujevac is third city in Serbia by proportion betwen average net monthly wage and consumer basket. Belgrade is first, Novi Sad second, Kragujevac is third. Leskovac, consumer basket 64 000, but very small wages, for example, in comparation with Kragujevac. Ok. We have mutch richest smaller towns and municipality centers, like: Čajetina(Zlatibor region, MUST visit), Vršac, Apatin,... But, my comparation is comparation for 15 the bigest cities in country. Oh, sorry, im talkin to mutch. End.
Just one sentence. You are from Brittain. Around 5% of serbian DNA is CELTISH, CELTIC i do not know to write properly?. Most of serbian cities has historical names and most of them has CELTISH name. For example, Belgrade- Singidunum. Name given by Celts. ROulers of this region long long time.
Getting adventurous on those scooters! :) A small bit of the pronunciation in Serbian: the j letter is pronounced {y}, so Bubanj will be pronounced {boobañ}. Now you are ready for more pronunciation successes!
You must find real old "Kafana" (thats name for any old restaurant and coffe house) in Niš,Leskovac or Vlasotince and order "Leskovački voz" (Leskovac train) for lunch. LItle advice - skip breakfast.

Looks nice. I would like to visit it one day! Specialy the monasterys in the area.
Thank you!
Welcome 🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸
Welcome to our city. One little trivia... In Kragujevac, in WW1 was shoot down the first military airplane in history. Art. soldier Radoje Ljutovac shot down Austo-Hungarian airplane.
'j' in Serbian is pronounced always as 'y' in 'yo-yo' /ˈjoʊ.joʊ/ or 'you' /jʊ/, Never as dʒ as in 'job' /dʒɑːb/
EDIT: I didn't mean this to criticize, I love that you are trying to pronounce the words correctly and your mistakes make me laugh :)
I think Serbian is difficult because of some of these similar but different sounds and 'j' is just one of them :) On a positive note, everything is pronounced exactly the way it is spelled, it just takes time to get used to that.
Y like in Yugoslavia 😢
Just read the J in Serbian as Y in English.
Molly and Matt, you are so nice and pleasant. I would like you to stay permanently in Srbija :) Best wishes!
Hi guys! I just wanted to say thank you for visiting Serbia and my hometown 😊 But most of all, thank you for making my very depressed and shitty day much much much better! I’ve spent 3-4 hours watching your videos on RUclips and all I can say is - keep up the good work! You guys are amazing!! 🥰
Welcome to Kragujevac 🤗🍀
I want to tell you why is Kragujevac first capital of modern Serbia.
"Prijatno"
It had some pretty sick rave parties in mid-late 2000s
The park and the rooftop restaurant are not to be missed!
Definitely!
You, really, like Serbia! Stay in! 😊
It seems like this video was filmed several weeks ago because I notice that the deciduous trees aren't even leafed out yet, but I am sure, now almost a week into May, that they are mostly leafed out.
Correct! If you follow us on our Instagram you’ll see where we are!
Thank you for visiting our city! :) loved the video!!
Btw you have audio with proper pronunciation on Kragujevac's wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kragujevac ;)
Greetings from (used to be a) Kragujevčanin ;)
I needed to get to know this place better for a scene in my fictional work, THANK YOU SM this really helped me
what are you working on? Im from KG so I can help
Serbia has continental climate unlike England with its mild ocean climate. Now is spring, time of the year when weather is very changeable and unstable. one day hot, tomorrow cold, rain and sun... from May it will start to get hotter and hotter with stable warm weather
Kragujevac is the capital of Šumadija region (Shumadia) and the most Serbian city in Serbia
This is a very good video about Kragujevac. Greeting From Kragujevac❤️
Dobro došli.
Great video❤
Don't miss Zlatibor and Mokra Gora. :)
Stay tuned!
Many thanks for taking your time and visiting Kragujevac ! Welcome to Serbia 🇷🇸 ❤️
Thank you!
Greetings for you! I am glad about that what of way you as foreners represent tourist explore at oure Mother Serbia, I am Serbian from Bosnia and Herzegovina who living in Monte Negro but I love wery much oure Mother land Serbia.

Hello Molly and Matt have a wonderful day wow another amazing vlog beautiful place and nice drone so beautiful take care guy’s and enjoy your beautiful adventures 👏👏👏💖💖💖👍👍👍
😍❤️❤️
Enjoy our beautiful spring, sad for youtubers who visited during the winter
:) Therefore, Kragujevac is Kraguyevac, and lake Bubanj is lake Bubany. ;)
Pozdrav iz Kragujevca
Greetings from Kragujevac
Hello couple. Have a nice day...love from Philippines
Definitely!! Thank you so much!
Love your vids on serbia! Just back from belgrade and niš and if you've never been check out a place called bela crkva it is in vojvodina and very nice... worth a visit👍
I like how you leave the video on a cliffhanger. As we don't know what's coming next. I thought you might be going to Vranje or Pirot from Leskovac, but than you just pop up in Kragujevac.
😉 thanks for watching!
Gratings from Kragujevac.
Danke,für tolle darstellung !
My lovley town... thank you guys
Thank you for nice video about my hometown! :) Unfortunately it is not "tourist friendly" as for instance Belgrade or Novi Sad but it has a lot to offer.
The lake from the beginning of the video (Bubanj) was made from old clay mine and has shape of a heart. Very nice place during spring and autumn :)
Close to the main church are First theater and first gymnasium of central Serbia and "Amidzin konak" which is a 19th-century Turkish-style residence. 7 minutes from main church there is another (older) church with first Serbian parliament.
Not far from memorial park Sumarice is lake with some beautiful restaurants.
There are also some museums in the city but I am not sure if they are open due to Covid-19 situation.
Have fun in Serbia!
Džaba pišeš.. vidiš da su čobani, budale 😂😂😂
This region is not the poorest region in Serbia,
Kragujevac is not pooorest city in Serbia,
but is cheap in comparation with biger cities in the country.
You can visit Topola and Arandjelovac city clous to Kragujevac

Getting adventurous on those scooters! :)
A small bit of the pronunciation in Serbian: the j letter is pronounced {y}, so Bubanj will be pronounced {boobañ}. Now you are ready for more pronunciation successes!
You must find real old "Kafana" (thats name for any old restaurant and coffe house) in Niš,Leskovac or Vlasotince and order "Leskovački voz" (Leskovac train) for lunch. LItle advice - skip breakfast.
I really like your videos and i wanted to tell you that you can visit Pirot in Serbia. In Pirot you can see so many beautiful things, i really like Rosomački Lonci or a fortress called Momcilov grad located in the center of Pirot, you can visit it if you want. There are many more beautiful things i cannot list in this comment. I hope i write this comment right! Enjoy ❤️
Thank you!
