  • Video 1 in my "Interesting Approaches" series, we fly the V35 Bonanza from Carenado with the REP overlay down the RNP AR RNAV approach to Ted Stevens Anchorage International airport in Alaska. This approach is compelling, as you fly a steep descending spiral over the ocean down to minimums.

Have you tried PilotEdge? Totally changes your x plane experience with real ATC. I can’t recommend them enough.

Thanks for the recommendation. i've looked at PilotEdge, but haven't given it a try yet. I steered clear after I saw the pricing, $329 for the "full package". wow!
Maybe i'll give the trial a test run and see...

In twenty years I've never seen a plane land on 33 at PANC, even though they very often use it for takeoffs.

My suspicion is that RNP runway 33 approach is almost never used... I've never seen one quite like it!
I just checked the weather and PANC, and the wind is out of 290. Are 25L/R typically the runways used?

@@flightlevel1803 Yeah 25 is definitely the most common since there's two of them and it tends to deposit planes right next to the terminal. Plus it's basically just a straight in over open water for miles

Another good video, thanks. If you ever do a tutorial that includes ATC please let me know, as this is something else I am learning about. Likes +1 Cheers!!

Thanks for watching! I'll think about a good ATC video. The best way to do it is to "voice over" your own ATC but that's a LOT of work. The built in ATC in x-plane isn't great. I'll think about doing something.
Right now I'm working on a video showing how to fly a pattern in the Bo... the "by the book" "correct" way to fly a traditional pattern. Should be very relevant to your Baron, other than the rotation speeds (which have to be much higher in the Baron to be over Vmc). Hopefully I'll have that up in a couple days.
It's fun to look at this video again... it was inspired by one of my friend's planes. He has nearly this exact airplane, with the orange color scheme, same model (v35b), and very similar avionics. The only major difference is he doesn't have panel GPS, and his engine is turbo aspirated (giving a service ceiling in the mid-20s!).

Both sound great, I once attempted a pattern and it turned out on the map like a drunken knitting session, so that one is definitely worth watching. Cheers.
