Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom" (Luke 23:42). Jesus' response is recorded in the New King James Version as, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise" (Luke 23:43).
When Christ died later that day, did He and the criminal go to heaven? The answer lies in John 20:17, where Christ says to Mary Magdalene (three days after His crucifixion), "I have not yet ascended to My Father." So Christ hadn't returned to heaven the day of His crucifixion.
The system of punctuation we are used to in the English language-which includes quotation marks, commas, semicolons, etc.-was not used in the Greek language that the Gospel of Luke was written in. As a result, English translators of the Bible had to place punctuation into the Bible based on the context of the translation. While they have generally done an accurate job with this, their lack of understanding of the timing of the resurrections and their belief in nonbiblical doctrines such as the immortality of the soul led them to incorrectly punctuate Luke 23:43.
So what did Jesus mean? A common phrase of Jesus' day was the emphatic "I say to you today," with which Jesus prefaced His statement that "you will be with Me in Paradise." Christ wasn't saying, "You will be with Me in Paradise today," but rather, "Today I'm telling you, you will be with Me in Paradise."

As a retired pastor, I am grateful that you rightly expounded on the Greek and how our English can unknowingly twist it into something that is not quite right. Sadly, most evangelical, Baptist/Protestant, Pentecostal, Charismatic pastors are in profound want when it comes to biblical language grammar and that gives birth to inaccurate conclusions. Well done! @@geordiewishart1683

If God, Jesus the Son and the Holy Ghost are omnipresent and Sheol has a good side and a bad side (ie blessed side and tormented side) then it stands to reason Jesus is and remains in both sides of Sheol and now Heaven since he was resurrected. There would be no reason for a hell if the Holy Trinity wasn't present in all places at all times.

Preaching to the spirits in prison:-
1 Peter 3:18:- “For Christ also suffered for sins once for all time, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but >[made alive]< in the spirit”
Jesus died in its complete sense, he didn’t go anywhere. His right to life again was put into his father's hands Luke 23:46, and his body went into Hades [which is synonymous with the grave] Acts 2:27, yet it was foretold that his body would not undergo decay in the grave, this never happens because he/Jesus was resurrected to immortality [ie] he was “made alive” in the spirit at his resurrection.
“If” Jesus was God incarnate and only died bodily whilst remaining alive as “God the son” in the spirit world, why would he need to be “made alive” in the spirit, for he would already be alive in the spirit as the “eternal God”, it makes no sense at all. I m o, what does make sense is this, Jesus died in its complete sense [ie] ceased to exist as a being, and at his resurrection to life again from the dead he was “made alive” in the spirit, and yet to ascend to his Father and God Jhon 20:17. It is in this state of being he went and presented himself to the father Hebrews 4:14 + 9:24, whilst also going on to preach to the spirits in prison.
The NIV translation at 1 Peter 3:19, captures what I believe to be the correct context of this verse:-
Vr 19:- >[After being made alive]< he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits...
I m o, Jesus went and preached to the spirits in prison “after” his resurrection from the dead; and not in some disembodied state between his death and resurrection.
    Peace

From an ancient homily for Holy Saturday:
“ .... there is a great silence on earth today, a great silence and stillness. The whole earth keeps silence because the King is asleep.
The earth trembled and is still because God has fallen asleep in the flesh and he has raised up all who have slept ever since the world began. God has died in the flesh and hell trembles with fear.
He has gone to search for our first parent, as for a lost sheep. Greatly desiring to visit those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, he has gone to free from sorrow the captives Adam and Eve, he who is both God and the son of Eve.
The Lord approached them bearing the cross, the weapon that had won him the victory. At the sight of him Adam, the first man he had created, struck his breast in terror and cried out to everyone: “My Lord be with you all.” Christ answered him: “And with your spirit.”
He took him by the hand and raised him up, saying: “Awake, O sleeper, and rise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” I am your God, who for your sake have become your son. Out of love for you and for your descendants I now by my own authority command all who are held in bondage to come forth, all who are in darkness to be enlightened, all who are sleeping to arise.
I order you, O sleeper, to awake. I did not create you to be held a prisoner in hell. Rise from the dead, for I am the life of the dead. Rise up, work of my hands, you who were created in my image.
Rise, let us leave this place, for you are in me and I am in you; together we form only one person and we cannot be separated. For your sake I, your God, became your son; I, the Lord, took the form of a slave; I, whose home is above the heavens, descended to the earth and beneath the earth.
For your sake, for the sake of man, I became like a man without help, free among the dead. For the sake of you, who left a garden, I was betrayed to the Jews in a garden, and I was crucified in a garden.
See on my face the spittle I received in order to restore to you the life I once breathed into you. See there the marks of the blows I received in order to refashion your warped nature in my image. On my back see the marks of the scourging I endured to remove the burden of sin that weighs upon your back. See my hands, nailed firmly to a tree, for you who once wickedly stretched out your hand to a tree.
I slept on the cross and a sword pierced my side for you who slept in paradise and brought forth Eve from your side. My side has healed the pain in yours. My sleep will rouse you from your sleep in hell. The sword that pierced me has sheathed the sword that was turned against you.
Rise, let us leave this place. The enemy led you out of the earthly paradise. I will not restore you to that paradise, but I will enthrone you in heaven. I forbade you the tree that was only a symbol of life, but see, I who am life itself am now one with you. I appointed cherubim to guard you as slaves are guarded, but now I make them worship you as God.
The throne formed by cherubim awaits you, its bearers swift and eager. The bridal chamber is adorned, the banquet is ready, the eternal dwelling places are prepared, the treasure houses of all good things lie open. The kingdom of heaven has been prepared for you from all eternity”.

As for "unbiblical thoughts", the Church and its beliefs existed for over 350 years before the bible was put together, and for 1,500 years before rebels started to assert that anything that they could not read expressly in the bible was not Christian. Tragically, you sound like a Catholic, swallowing whatever the Church says is "true". Jesus said to speak plainly - and he did. Paul said to forego big wordy speech so that all would see the power of the Holy Spirit at work. Paul called the Bereans NOBLE because they searched the scriptures to see if what Paul said was true (Acts 17:11). In that regard, knowing so little but circular religious dogma, you would only go to the men in dresses for the "truth" who got their "truth" from the man in the white dress who is called "Holy Father" while humbly sitting on his massive throne.
Satan will insert a tiny amount of leaven (sin) into a whole loaf of bread so as to hide his poison. It grieves me that you can't see the many statements hidden amongst the big wordy/circular speech that the Church presented you.
Sola Scriptura is testing the scripture by ONLY the scriptures, not by someone wearing a white dress. God alone is the Holy Father, not a man on his throne. Or, as Sola Scriptura is translated, "the Word only!" Not by some priest who knows little of God's Word or they wouldn't be a Catholic. @@Kevin_Beach

One of the reasons I think this is confusing is ; the KJV refers to Hades as hell. This version is the Only one that does so. Additionally, it is the only version to reference Passover as Easter ( from the Greek goddess Ishtar) Secondly, KJV refers to the Holy Spirit as the Holy Ghost. A ghost is defined as a restless spirit of a dead person. There are many more mistranslations in the KJV. Thank you so much for clarifying this subject. I would caution those who " swear by " the KJV as the most accurate translation.

The problem with interpreting Luke 23 the way many do is that Jesus has to somehow get to paradise before He rises from the dead and ascends into heaven. That requires that Sheol (or Hades) has to be composed of at least two different types of places, both where the dead really aren't dead but are actually alert and are either suffering or living "in paradise" even though the first resurrection hasn't happened yet.

Peter wrote in 1 Peter 3:19 that Jesus "preached to the spirits in prison" through the power of God's Spirit and that these spirits had been disobedient. "Spirits" refers to angels. Which angels disobeyed? Biblical history shows that Lucifer initially rebelled against God, at which time he became "Satan" or the opponent of God (Isaiah 14:12-14; Ezekiel 28:12-16). He subsequently drew a third of the angelic creation into mutiny against God (Revelation 12:4).
When these formerly righteous spirits rebelled, they became demons. We learn more about these spirits and their "prison" in 2 Peter 2:4. The word translated "hell" in this verse is from the Greek word tartarus, which doesn't mean "hell" in the way that people today commonly think of it. Rather, it means a place of restraint-that is, a prison. (You can find more about the biblical teachings about hell in our booklet Heaven and Hell: What Does the Bible Really Teach?)
These fallen angels turned from their purpose of serving God and humanity (Hebrews 1:13-14); their rebellion reduced them to hatred and bitterness toward God and His holy purpose for humanity. Their place of restraint is this earth, until God deals with them further in the future.
Putting this information together with 1 Peter 3:20, Jesus apparently confronted these rebellious spirits at the time of Noah's Flood. The Bible doesn't reveal why He did this.

Indeed, Jesus was in the tomb, and the Spirit of God raised him to life on the third day, per 1 Pet 3:18. The next verse says only that everyone in Noah's day heard God's warning from Noah but refused: enslaved to sin & self. If anything, we add any idea of Jesus doing anything, from this verse.
Lastly, Adam was made a living soul by God, so when dying Adam reverted to being a dead soul, lacking God's breath of life. The Bible is pretty clear, "the dead do not praise God," and we cannot turn the parable of Lazarus & the rich man into a lesson saying otherwise: Jesus, in this parable, was teaching & warning that the leaders of his day would not believe in him even should someone be raised from the dead.
Thus, Jesus was laid in the tomb and stayed there till he was raised back to life, amen.

Paradise is where Jesus went and all the believers before him. Hades is where are the wicked went.
The author calls it Sheol/Hades when it should be referred to as Sheol-Paradise/Hades.

    1:31.
This really has grown to infuriate me.
None of these verses are proof texts for what is being claimed. As usual to prove a major theological point, verses are just used which just in passing by, mention hades.
Just admit there is not sufficient evidence to confirm what you think hades is.
No mention of Sheol or the fact that the Bible says Sheol is the grave, and that this idea would have certainly been in the 1st century.

~ it is a blasphemous heresy to claim that Jesus was made a sinner and had to be born again in hell as these false ministers say. Jesus was a sinless sacrifice, His blood was pure ( * which is why He had to be born of a virgin) and if you don't believe this you are not saved. Paul warns against following false prophets and teachers and says you can receive another spirit, another gospel, another Jesus. We are also admonished to be wary of what we hear and how we hear. Have you been truly born again? 2Co 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
2Co 11:4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

I am sorry Pastor Nelson, but you are in error. As it is written, "Jesus answered him, 'Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.'" (Luke 23:43) . . .

"Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom" (Luke 23:42).

    THE INTERPRETER
Who are you? I am the INTERPRETER! What meaneth thee by that? I am he that was sent to expose MYSTERIES hid from the foundation of the world. Who gave you that power? It is he that is crying at sinners’ heart day and night to let him in. Okay, what do you have to expose this time around? The mystery of his death! The mystery of his resurrection! And finally, the mystery of what happened between his death and resurrection! Okay, what about that? Yes, a man (Christ) left his glorious majesty and REGENERATED into a woman that knoweth not a man, and the seed(Most Holiest) was WATERED by the Holy Ghost! Looking at the man (Christ) at wilderness, I discovered he has FORCES to CONTEND with. What forces is that? It is the FORCES of DARKNESS. Who created it? It is his father (Jehovah). Why was it created, seeing He (Jehovah) is the father of Light? Yes, He (Jehovah) will be a very, very PARTIAL God if he had created only things of Light.
    THINGS OF LIGHT
Before things of light was in place, things of darkness had already being! I don't understand! Yes, Jehovah had to create light after his Son (Christ- Light), but before light was created (Genesis 1:3), darkness had being. Now, the darkness I am talking about is not DARKNESS as per EVIL, (God forbid)! It is darkness as per neither holy nor evil. It was the darkness that covered all things that were meant to be, although had not being, but will surely be (Genesis 1 :2). Yes, the darkness was not evil at all. Now, the Son (Christ) cannot abide in such darkness forever, but the father (Jehovah) can (Psalms 97:2, Psalms 18:11), hence, the need of Light (Genesis 1:3). Looking at the father (Jehovah), I discovered he is the father of all spirits (whether holy or not). Looking at the father (Jehovah), I discovered he is the father of all flesh (whites and blacks). Looking at the father (Jehovah ), I discovered he is the father of... Now, it will take eternity of professors, eternity of year's to write what the interpreter (writer) wants to write. Yes, he is not an ordinary man. Okay, as I looked at a region, I discovered it is of COMPLETE DARKNESS. As I looked at another region, I discovered it is neither of LIGHT nor of DARKNESS. As I looked at the last region (although), I discovered it is of LIGHT. Looking at my little book of wisdom (Bible), I discovered that the Creator only mentioned Light and Darkness. As I looked at my little book of wisdom (Bible), I discovered that there was FORCES (neither of Light nor of Darkness) that was not mentioned. Asking why? I discovered it is the WILL of the great King (Jehovah) to keep some things secret, and expose it through babe (The Interpreter), at these last days (almost rapture). Looking at man (whites and bkacks), I discovered it is also the will of the great King (Jehovah) to create men that are neither whites not blacks, although they have been erroneously classified either as whites or blacks due to their geographical locations(fair skinned). Okay, looking at plants also created by the great King (Jehovah), I discovered he created the plant of light (tree of life), and he created the plant of darkness ( tree of the knowledge of good and evil). And finally; He created trees that are neither of Light nor of Darkness! A wise man quickly looked at me (interpreter), and asked me, “where are the trees that are neither of light not of darkness?” And I looked at him and smiled! Why are you smiling? Yes, look around you, and you will see that the earth (neither of light nor of darkness) is made of of such TREES. Yes, take for instance, the Manchineel, Bunya Pine, Neem tree, especially the neem tree, it is good and evil. The same tree could be medicinal and poisonous! How? Yes, it could be used as pesticide and large dose in the food could kill a man. It could also be use for furniture and it could also be used in making wooden parts of weapons. So you can see that plants on earth are neither of light nor of darkness. The earth itself is neither of light not of darkness; if you give it light (Sun), it will adopt the position of light; and if you give it darkness (removal of sun), it will adopt the position of darkness. The souls of men are neither of light not of darkness; if you give it light (gospel songs, Christian literature, fasting, prayers, gospel messages), it will adopt the position of light; and if you give it darkness (fornication, masturbation, smoking, alcoholism, gambling, etc.), it will adopt the position of darkness.
Now, talking about FORCES, we have the Forces of Light, the Forces of Darkness, and the Forces that are neither of Light nor of Darkness. Okay, Lucifer was created or rather CLONED with series of precious stones, unlike other angels that were CLONED with just a single stone. Now, Lucifer was banished away from the presence of God, when he had it in his mind to sit where his master (Jehovah) sits, and other angels (both of light and of darkness, although they were all of light then) WORSHIP him. He was banished and was chased away by Angel Michael after empowerment by Jehovah, seeing that before the fall, Angel Michael was not as strong as Lucifer. Hence, God (Jehovah) had to EMPOWER him, in order to FIGHT with Lucifer; and he(Lucifer) and one- third of the angels were pulled unto the earth (spiritually), and finally into the pit (hell). Now, humanity were created and a breath of LOVE was breathe into man, and man became a LIVING BEING; but hell was created by Jehovah -only, and a BREATHE of ANGER (Spirit of Spirit) was breathe into it, and it kindleth and shall never, never stop burning, till the last day, when hell will be lifted up together with its OCCUPANTS (Damned souls, Satan, demons), and will be LAUNCHED into the lake. Now, immediately man ( Adam and Eve) fell at the garden of Eden, they were driven out by the Lord through his angels, and the devil BOUGHT MAN.

    @Got Questions Ministries
When Jesus died on the cross from his perspective is what I will offer you. When Jesus died on the cross the whole world went dark and his soul came out of his body and his sight became monochromatic with each flashing of light he could see more. Jesus heard a clicking sound as the pitch became louder he saw a blue Angel it had no legs and it came close to him it then placed both his hands on the lifeless head of Jesus and sampled all his memories from the bodies head. Jesus kept watching his body it was loosing heat, you see Jesus could see with new eye's and as he watched his body lose heat he could see his circulatory system and nervous system he could see the blood that was still warm in his veins. He watched as the heat from his body dissipated, his body turned black and indistinguishable from the log he was attached to. Jesus thanked his body for taking care of him and said goodbye to it, then all of a sudden he dropped down into the Earth into a place called Sheol, he looked down and beneath him was another Angel an Ophanim which is a wheel Angel that looked like molten gold that spun counter clockwise the Ophanim had eyes on it's side and was very beautiful to behold. The Ophanim held him in place, it did this so that the other Angel could do his job. The blue Angel then moved over to Jesus and placed his hands on ether sides of Jesus head sampling all of Jesus memories so he could report his findings to the Dominion Angel that would soon be there with them. Then the blue Angel moved out away from Jesus about 10 feet, suddenly the Dominion Angel appeared and the blue Angel made Angelic Sounds reported his findings to the Dominion Angel after that the Dominion ordered the blue Angel to open a portal back to Jesus body. Then the Dominion Angel left and the blue Angel came back to him and turned to Jesus left looking away from him the Angel opened a portal using his Angelic Sounds although Jesus could not hear him making sounds that is what happened. Now that the portal was open Jesus could see his body in the portal lying there In his bed he was younger and still alive you see this was Jesus at a younger age and it was so ordered that the Ophanim release Jesus and he did and Jesus was released Jesus then ordered all the old testament saints to be woken up in Sheol and then he ordered that a place be made for each one of them in heaven. Then Jesus moved over to that place called the bottomless pit and walked across the lava into the room called hell. Jesus saw a endless line of people all of them in hell on their knees with their heads placed on a platform, their hands placed on ether sides of their heads locking them into their own personal hell in side of their own minds. Jesus then ordered the Servitor Angel to wake up those that were closest to him and the Servitor moved down the line saying names and as he spoke names the line would stop at that person the Servitor then approached each one and removed their hands from their heads and a scream came from them as they transitioned from the mental Hell they were in to consciousness. After the Servitor Angel woke a number of them he passed by Jesus and bowed down to him and said it is done. Jesus spoke with them for some time, what was said to them only they know, not even the Servitor could hear what Jesus was saying. After Jesus spoke he moved out back to the portal and placed his left hand up towards the portal, facing his palm right at it then widening his fingers a great boom was heard as the portal activated. Jesus took his right hand and made a gesture and began to fast forward the portal to his body lying lifeless in his tomb in the place called Golgotha. Jesus spoke a language known only to God and the council of Angels. This language transformed Jesus's body to be much like that of an Angel and a human all in one. Jesus had to upgrade his body because if he hadn't he would need to wait for years to get all his memories back because Sheol is a place of forgetfulness and it takes time for the body and the souls memories to merge. Jesus then moved into the portal piercing the Veil between life and death thus completing his resurrection.

I don't think this is quite correct and is using the confused modern sense of "hell". The reason English Bibles have historically used 'hell' as a translation of Sheol and Hades is because Hell is just as good a translation for those words as Hades is for Sheol. Hell (from what we nowadays spell as Hel) is the Germanic pagan place of the dead. Hades is the Greek pagan place of the dead, Sheol is the Hebrew place of the dead. Hell was not understood as the lake of fire.
I'm not sure when the confusion set in, but the earliest English Bibles use Hell in this way. I suspect Strong's has a lot to do with perpetuating the confusion; it's useful, but is terribly confused at what it calls 'hell' and isn't the best source for Hebrew and Greek usage.
Modern Bibles seem to try to avoid the confusion with hell by leaving it as 'Sheol' or translating it to e.g. 'the grave' or 'the realm of the dead'.

Jesus presents the following story: "There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
"So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'
"But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.'
"Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house, for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.'
"Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'
"And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.'
"But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead'" (Luke 16:19-31).
When we look at this account in light of other scriptures and in its historical context, it becomes apparent that this is an allegory, a familiar story of the time that Jesus uses to point out a spiritual lesson to those who knew the law but did not keep it. It was never intended to be understood literally.
Bible language expert Dr. Lawrence Richards, in discussing this passage in The Victor Bible Background Commentary: New Testament, explains that Jesus used contemporary Jewish thought about the afterlife (which by this time was influenced by pagan mythology) to point out a spiritual lesson about how we view and treat others.
In this view of the afterlife, Hades, the abode of the dead, was "thought to be divided into two compartments" and "conversations could be held between persons" in the abode of the righteous and those in the abode of the unrighteous. "Jewish writings also picture the first as a verdant land with sweet waters welling up from numerous springs," separated from the second, which was described as a parched and dry land. These elements show up in Christ's allegory.
"In Christ's story God was the beggar's only source of help, for the rich man was certainly not going to do a single thing for him!...It is important to see this parable of Jesus as a continuation of His conflict with the Pharisees over riches. Christ has said, 'You cannot serve God and Money' (Luke 16:13). When the Pharisees sneered, Jesus responded, 'What is highly valued among men is detestable in God's sight' (Luke 16:15).

@@Raxs0G I listened on youtube to a rabbi. He said, the soul of the departed has a 2nd chance to upgrade for heaven, if în their life the person had such a hard time, he/her couldn't meet the requirement of the Law.
The rabbi went into details, I can't recall, about stages of what and where the soul is doing after death. For exemple, that it stays by the coffin for 3 days, than, can't remember?
Christianity copies some of these explanations, such as Catholics and Orthodoxs
However that rabbi was saying also that the soul is not happy to go back to God? and God serves humans?... I found very strange. Maybe some Kabbala/ Occult influence

Gen 10.17- the Chinese are derived from the Sinite of Hams descendants. The Asian continent contains the Middle East, India, Persia, ect, as well as the people of the Orient.
America appears to be the strong arm of the Beast by description in Daniel & Revelations.

some scriptures that were put up on the screen didn't sufficiently justify your interpretations, especially the ones where just the reference was put up, not the actual words.
where does it say he when he descended be preached to the old testament saints?
