I would argue that this isn't even pretentious. Just philosophical and kinda cool.
Between this and games like The Beginner’s Guide, it seems that people think any game that has philosophical or existential ideas is just “pretentious”.
I agree I think the Alan watts parts were pretentious as fuck but that’s just that one dude fault
and most philosophical things its all air its a train of thought of maybes and ifs, the peak of hyperbole.
Vinny is a sweet guy, he played every game people asked him to play.

i know this is the weirdest thing to be happy about but i sent vinny a picture of a shittily painted grey garfield someone found in a thrift store to which he replied gorf and later used in his opening for the night. i'm still feeling the emotions i felt when i saw that. i need to vent to the community that i've been blessed. vinny if you read this you made my life.

i'll be honest, i got the game the hour it came out and played it for 8 hours that day. i do not regret this
in conclusion of beating the game for the most part, this is the kind of thing you play to cure depression. especially those little recordings of that guy talking about biophilosophy. it's fucking magical and made me actually smile, something that doesn't happen too often despite the fact that i am clown. who knew a game where you can be a coin talking to a neutron star could change outlooks on life
also the game never crashed once in my total 12 hours of play

I unironically think this is an amazing game, or "interactive experience". Both silly, entertaining and thought-provoking at the same time. Sure, ultimately, Alan Watts might have been a drunkard, but how can anyone not emphasize considering how much thought this man gave to this weirdest things of all we call existence.
Dude you can think as long as your alive, make a million points, you're still gonna die. Then what? There is no real point. Any truth you find is ultimately meaningless to the universe. Life is nothing more than the idiotic rambling of a bunch of guys.

39:20 - I'd say a "thing" is a logical boundary in space delineated by a sharp change in the density of the content of that space. I.e., air is much less dense than a rock, so we treat them separately. If air separates two rocks, they are two things rather than one, etc.. That's the best I can do while keeping in mind that everything is one contiguous object in a way.
Honestly I feel like Alan Watts is talking out of his ass a bit. This guy is held in some high regard but WHY? His lectures reek of "Tide goes in, tide goes out you can't explain that" i.e. he makes a statement that something is unknown or profound when...its not the case. Or he'll make leaps in logic to come to a conclusion.
I'd never heard of him before this, but some of the things he says are absolutely worth thinking about and considering. Ex. the fact that death being the end of consciousness is a "myth". Sure, it's verifiable that the brain stops but how do we know whether consciousness is over when we still haven't pinned down what it is? It's an interesting way to look at things (for reference, I'm an atheist and have no afterlife beliefs). That said, I agree that he seems to be pushing his luck with his lines of reasoning in places.

why do people get so defensive in the presence of new ideas? In the comments and in the chat during the stream when it was live i see so much defense, so much calling the game out for it's pretence or calling Watts some kind of charlaton, why can't we just let it be what it is? It's not causing any harm, it's not attacking anyone at all, merely posing a different way to look at things, and I for one atleast find it very worth thinking about.

Here's a little on what I think about my existence. It's a little clingy to things that don't matter, and a little adverse to things that probably do matter. It's also very conflicting as it can't figure out if it hates itself, or is perfectly content with itself. Overall, it's currently a mess as it can't seem to get over petty internal conflicts in order to effectively progress further than it already has. Though, now that I've thought about it, I guess my existance isn't really just mine, but a collective of others that have shaped mine. Should I blame others for my existence's struggles? Probably. But either way, I suppose that's just the luck of the draw. Good things happen, bad things happen. Critical to a moment, merely an accent in the long run. Or so I believe. Regardless, I shouldn't worry so much about whether I'll have enough time to fully shape my existence to the standards I'm still working out for it, considering it just goes on anyway. If it gets there, it gets there. If not, then not. If I regret what it becomes, I can just change it. It's actually very simple. No matter what, it works out.
So, how far into the game until you realized, that in a game about the human mind and it's existence, where you can be "everything" - you can't be human.

i noticed that about 1 hour in and it still bugs me if that really was on purpose (if so, cool!), or if vinny just didn't find any humans and they are actually there. hm.
The game uses audio of a philosopher. That means this is gonna get reeeeeeaaaaaalll deep. Prepare for existential crisis.

Alan Watts was a person born in the right time in the right place in the universe. Nowadays we'd have people who would call him "pretentious" for his philosophical and, well, rather fantastic rants. Watts was a man who was still human while at the end of the day, and his outlook on life is something I follow very seriously.
The universe is a wonderful and beautiful thing, and we can choose to be scared of it, or we can choose to find out what makes us, and what we've made of it.
I think my favorite quote from him is “We do not "come into" this world; we come out of it, as leaves from a tree. As the ocean "waves," the universe "peoples."

I think during the series of events where you became the polyhedron’s that you were at that point just mathematical concepts that are in a way like the coded language of the universe and that is maybe why once you gathered all of the geometric concepts, you then entered the world at the atomic level!
Truly, I have now seen everything.
I'm pretty sure the part where Vinny played Gorillaz music as a bunch of pizza slices floated through space made me dissociate and wonder if existence itself is even real anymore.

They're similar, but come to the exact opposite conclusion.
Instrumentality was created so that the barrier between all people would be dissolved, all would become one, and harmony would ensue forever because people can't fuck that up if no one does anything. Shinji manages to fuck it all up after he realized that the whole thing would be fucking boring and despite people having the opportunity to do bad things, individuality keeps things interesting. And existing.
Everything, on the other hand, portrays the ability to do wrongthings are things that muck up the universe and should be swept into a little box to fester. As soon as you delete your thoughts, you can experience a dance party.
