Thanks for the great videos Tom, love that you dive into explanations for why you do certain things and settings, etc. Agree with other commenters, learn more from you than most other pros just trying to hawk lures and gear. HB can thank you for my purchase of a Helix 9 MSI.
Thanks so much for the vid. I was out this weekend struggling to find the walleyes and was really questioning my DI settings specifically. I'm running G2N helix 12 mega at the console and a 999 on the bow, have not figured out my 360 imaging yet! Keep the vids coming.
Thanks great stuff. Could you make a video about using rod holders to pull spinners/cranks. How you set drags/ set the hook/ do you like bottom bouncers, or three ways. Do you like Leadcore? How high off the bottom do you start? When and where to use each.
Tom, "The Walleye Whisperer" Boley..., another excellent video!! Could you PLEASE do a video on MEGA Humminbird settings for side and down imaging, or if you already have, provide title/link? I tried to see hz or megaGhz settings, just couldn't view. Thanks Tom, for passing on your experience and knowledge, if you ever get a chance to come to Belleville, Ontario, Canada, Bay of Quinte region, wonderful area for walleye..., give me a heads up..., well after Covid-19 is cleared up!!
Can you have a view on what kind reals you have to have when using braided line, can you use any spinning reals and rods etc, and how to tie braid to mono leaders, keep up the good work, thanks
He has links in video details it is a down arrow just to the right of the video name on a smartphone. They can vary and I have seen him talk about it in other videos.
I wish I had as good lakes as you do, I live in Colorado and it's hard to find really good walleye lakes without traveling a ways. I have a hummingbird helix 7 without the side imaging, side imaging is my next investment with a minikota I pilot. My boat came with a motor guide.
Great videos very informative but in side imaging I'm seeing many of the dark shadows you are seeing but not the white marks in front is it just me or am I marking something else. Also using same unit as you in this video.
Great video, I have the Helix 9 gen 2 and the transducer which came with it. Do you use the transducer which came with gen2 or did you upgrade transducers?
How do you differentiate sheepshead vs walleye on lakes? Your methods works great for me in Hayward area lakes when I up there but the Winnebago & Bay of Green systems I mostly locate sheepshead. Any thoughts?
Sonar speed: if you take one picture with a camera of an object while moving by, you might get a little bit of what the object is. If you take a burst, you can piece the pics together to form a much clearer picture. Same with chart speed. Chart speed amounts to pinging speed; the more pings, the more information captured. Run your sonar on 10 regardless of boat speed. The boat speed and sonar pinging speed have no correlation whatsoever.
2cthetruth Nailed it. A friend of mine, who is a diver, showed me a 25’ pontoon boat on the bottom of the lake. We drove by the boat at 3 mph, chart speed 3 also. The boat showed up on the graph with about a 1” blurb. We drove by again at 3 mph, chart speed 10. Now the 25’ boat was 3” long on the graph, much more representative of what it actually was.
Tom usually white streaks on bottom are fish on side images,,for some reason on your I only saw shadows,,one more thing I noticed hooks on jigging rappalas front and back ain't that strong,,lost three cows on size 9 cause hooks straighten,,what do you think
Tom what should we do complain to rapala so they modify there hook set up for better hook ups. Or just strengthen front and back hooks,,,,any thoughts on a better set up?
Hey Tom, I’m over fishing Turtle Flambeau Flowage. Have you fished the Flowage and if so, what type of areas do you look for on a body of water like this? Thanks!
hey I have never caught a walleye as I primarily fish salt water. I am headed up to northern Manitoba next week to fish for walleye and pike, I have all the rods and reels necessary but wanted to know what some of the must have lures were that I should bring, Thanks.
Great video Tom! One question, I didn't catch what frequency you run your SI (455/855khz) or DI or 2D (200khz??) sonar? Maybe that's not an option on the new ones, I have an 898csi, the thing is ancient but works.
Question. You mentioned two hot keys, but didn't mention your recommendation for the third. One hot key is sonar/GPS. The other one is DI/GPS. What's your third? Thanks!
That answer was clear as mud. To answer the question; yes u get shadows from both. The distance between the fish and it’s shadow determines the height off the bottom. Further away shadow, higher in the water column.
Humminbird you paying this guy yet? Tom you have the best informative videos on RUclips for walleyes hands down.
Maybe one day
Excellent video Tom. I've learned several things from you this year, that have put more Walleye in the boat. Keep them coming.
Tom, you are fantastic at doing instructional videos. Keep it up!
Best walleye info on RUclips 100%
Tom thank you so much for all the tips. You have helped me catch more walleye with your different techniques that I had no idea where possible.
That chair is a bobber fisherman’s dream!
Excellent and informative, as always. Never saw a rod break like that.
Thanks for the great videos Tom, love that you dive into explanations for why you do certain things and settings, etc. Agree with other commenters, learn more from you than most other pros just trying to hawk lures and gear. HB can thank you for my purchase of a Helix 9 MSI.
Very informative. Thanks for putting out quality content and informative videos.
Great job Tom! You are a great teacher
Bam!!! Another Great Vid! Love my Hbird Mega SI!!
Thanks so much for the vid. I was out this weekend struggling to find the walleyes and was really questioning my DI settings specifically. I'm running G2N helix 12 mega at the console and a 999 on the bow, have not figured out my 360 imaging yet! Keep the vids coming.
very educational, like the format, thank you
Excellent video very good info thanks! Have you by chance ever used the hummingbird 360? Do you think it would be useful in walleye fishing?
Thanks great stuff. Could you make a video about using rod holders to pull spinners/cranks. How you set drags/ set the hook/ do you like bottom bouncers, or three ways. Do you like Leadcore? How high off the bottom do you start? When and where to use each.
very good info thank you Tom
I need that seat in my boat lol and wow on the rod never seen a st croix do that lol
awesome very informative....thanks tom
Tom. You. Da. Man.

That CHAIR!!
It looks like a lazyboy recliner in a fishing boat. I am jealous.
Just noticed TB's chair for the first time. That thing looks like it belongs in a 1970-s Cadillac. That's what a guy needs.
I thought it was a lazy-boy. Lol
Great video

Like that Contour Mode
Tom thanks for the very informative video, Awsome stuff,,I got to try the mills master jiggs,,they look like they could be the real deal
Got a link for those captain chairs?
Breaking that rod was ... awesome! ( Tommy Boy)
What’s your take on the Mega SI? Is that just better picture quality?
Hey Tom what size helix r u running
Thanks Tom
Great tips thanks
Great videos very informative but in side imaging I'm seeing many of the dark shadows you are seeing but not the white marks in front is it just me or am I marking something else. Also using same unit as you in this video.
Probably seeing rocks then.
I’m confused, I can’t see them in the video either though.
Hey Tom, great vid! What’s your boat?
Great video, I have the Helix 9 gen 2 and the transducer which came with it. Do you use the transducer which came with gen2 or did you upgrade transducers?
Great informative video, but I also wish my living room chair was as nice!
Great video

Yes. Jigging rap hooks suck. Those are fish on the graph just didn't pop like most marks
Great videos! With DI and sonar only, how can a guy identify rocks, sand or muck?
Tom what should we do complain to rapala so they modify there hook set up for better hook ups. Or just strengthen front and back hooks,,,,any thoughts on a better set up?
Make a better one I guess
Hey Tom,
I’m over fishing Turtle Flambeau Flowage. Have you fished the Flowage and if so, what type of areas do you look for on a body of water like this? Thanks!

1/4 oz jig tipped with worm and skirt is a must. Good time for slow trolling spinner rigs with worm. Evening trolling crankbaits will produce also.
Where did you get that seat??!!!!!
This is a fabulous video! Are you using Max Mode or Clear Mode for 2D?
Are you running clear mode or max mode?
And maybe the rod broke from all that snap jigging! Great video!
Great video Tom! One question, I didn't catch what frequency you run your SI (455/855khz) or DI or 2D (200khz??) sonar? Maybe that's not an option on the new ones, I have an 898csi, the thing is ancient but works.
150-220
Most of the waters I fish are pea soup What should I do about clarity and Where can I get a boat seat like that ?
Question. You mentioned two hot keys, but didn't mention your recommendation for the third. One hot key is sonar/GPS. The other one is DI/GPS. What's your third? Thanks!
1. GPS, sonar
2. Sonar DI
3. SI gps
@@TomBoley thanks
Any river walleye tips?
Troll troll troll.
You have proof you didn't mistreat that St.Croix rod....New one incoming.....For Free.
What difference is there between fish on bottom vs suspended on side imaging view? Do you still get shadows?
Higher off the bottom the farther away the fish is off the bottom.
That answer was clear as mud. To answer the question; yes u get shadows from both. The distance between the fish and it’s shadow determines the height off the bottom. Further away shadow, higher in the water column.
My bad. The higher the fish is off the bottom the further the distance is between mark and shadow.
Thanks, actually understood both!
Funny as hell to read! Nice
How cracked up was that Larson?
12:25 Saint Crap! :)
Great video though.
That broken rod 😅😂🤣
Why don't you just run down imaging and side imaging...why do you bother with sonar ?
Ya ruined me for my boatload of lowrance ,,,,big fan ,,but ,,never any content on my lowrance
