When I started to refinish/refurbish furniture in the 70's it was a sacrilege to paint anything. I would remove any and all paint and get back to bare wood to "rescue" the piece. Fast forward to the 21st century...if you want to paint something, paint it. If you don't then don't. Everyone has a personal aesthetic...go for it! Sonnet, I think you did a great job on the hutch! Actually, you took a fairly modern piece and gave it the "flavor" of a 1930's kitchen cabinet! It's a keeper! I'm not crazy about the black hardware, but that's my aesthetic! ;) Have a great week!
I don't ever think that you ruin things when you do them up. What your doing is giving a new and longer life xxx and please don't change your videos I love them just the way they are have a great week ❤
You made that hutch a beauty once again! It is too valuable to be discarded so you have have given it a second life. I have yet to see those who make statements that painting, etc has ruined (I hear this all too often) an item show up to purchase and save those same items. So much better to upcycle, paint, or any alteration than to send to the burn pile. Please keep sharing your work and flips with us. 💕
You 100% did NOT ruin it!! As much as I love a good old wood piece, some just don't look nice and need "something". I think you nailed it with this one, as with so many other pieces! Love the crocks too :) Keep doing you Sonnet, you know what catches the eye of your customers.
You definitely rescued this tired piece! I love the aviary but have never been a small rose pattern person. I can still appreciate the finished piece! The outdoor filming is fine even with the occasional noise. It’s more natural. You did a great job!
This is absolutely gorgeous! Don’t listen to the naysayers out there - you do you! We all hear the don’t paint comments but as you said, sometimes these pieces just need something extra. You did a beautiful job, Sonnet! ❤️
Omg stop listening to everyone. You do you! Tape wherever you want and do your flips how ever you want. The hutch is magnificent and I love the inlays and that green is my favorite also. You know what you like and you are successful at what you are doing. Again, just keep doing what makes you happy!
I am wildly, insanely in love with the hutch, Sonnet! The aviary with the paint inlay are so perfect together! You did not ruin it!!!! And I love the crocks. They are all wonderful! Good luck getting everything done. I can't wait to see more transformations.
I love what you did to the crocks with the stamps in clay! They came out so beautiful. I think the aviary color and the inlays look beautiful on the hutch. It turned out awesome! I love how the original color came through on the distressing, too. You need to do what you think will look great on your pieces. We all have different tastes and different visions for a piece, and I love how the hutch turned out. Great job, Sonnet!
Sometimes I wonder about people. I would never tell someone they ruined something. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The hutch is going and I love the crocks also. In addition to the sandy blonde. I also love the faded burlap. Thanks Sonnet
Although this would not work in my home I think this is now an awesome piece. How adorable for a girls room with books and other girl stuff. I love avary. Great job!!
Sonnet you did a beautiful job. I love the green paint and the green leaves on the paper together. I think it could be elevated by replacing the hardware with glass knobs and pulls. Also if you use the paper again to line the drawers I bet that would be beautiful. I love the crockery pieces too!
Back in the day it was beautiful but times have changed especially for young people they don't want old things what you did is make it beautiful and bright cheerful where you actually want to put it in your house all your work is fabulous I am a new subscriber
Sonnet, girl you've got it going! I love your work. That hutch is absolutely gorgeous. The crocks are lovely and will be perfect displayed in the hutch. Opinions are just that, opinions. You just keep doing you and I will keep just keep on watching everything you post. Get busy!
I would have been happy with the hutch as the plain wood or painted. In our apartment we have a mixture of both since some furniture gets in such rough states that you really need to paint it. I love the colors and the roses. I am definitely in love with the aviary paint as well. Once someone buys a piece of furniture they can do whatever they want with it.
Beautiful work! You have a good eye for color! I am glad to know that I am not the only one to turn my kitchen and dining area into a mad workshop when I am crafting and creating!
I have to agree the Aviary DiY Is a beautiful color especially The hutch and the IOD inlay that you used is gorgeous! I admire you for all you do for I do not a thing ( I finally Retired)Thanks for sharing.
Although the hutch is not my style, I think it came out beautiful. I love the colors and the paint in lay. Beautiful job with this piece. Very nice. And I think it give others ideas and inspiration. Try something different. And as the saying goes, you can't please everyone.
I love it with Aviary and the paint inlay! When you mentioned that you needed to adjust your orbital sander, I ran outside to see if mine had an adjustable speed! It didn't, but I learned that I need to read about my tools and learn how to use them better. Great video! Good luck taking everything and setting up at Antique Acres Barn Sale!
I am in your boat! This turned out fabulous I adore the paint in lays you’ve been using! So lovely way to give new life and endearing charm to this piece beautifully done keep it going kiddo you’re rocking life
Sonnet you definitely made it BETTER! It’s gorgeous! If I didn’t live all the way over here in Virginia I would snatch that baby up! 😂 It’s my colors and would go perfectly in my cottage decor. Keep up the good work and don’t let those naysayers get to ya.
I am loving loving loving the hutch. I believe a lot of younger people would actually put a hutch in their homes if it wasn't that dark drab brown. How much life is in brown???? Ok sometimes I like brown. Aviary is one of my favorite colors right now. We are doing a makeover on the table for my porch and its green!!! I have a small side table that is very old but its begging for new life. Daily I'm mulling it over to decide on a color and she is getting a facelift!!! I love to use solid wood furniture and sometimes Sonnet it just needs paint. Have a great week and cant wait to see what you make pretty!!
I’m sorry but people drive me nuts when they say you ruined a piece of furniture when you paint them😒. Anyway you hit this one outta the park 😍 man I love that rose chintz🌷
Hey Sonic I owe you an apology this is a great grandma I like the cabinet you did a good job and the Crocs look really nice with the whitewash over top of the crockeries
I loved the hutch both ways. I feel that it's a matter of opinion. In my home I would have kept it natural, but in my mother's home it would look fabulous painted. You did a fantastic job and should be proud of your work.
I think this turned out beautiful! And as far as if you should paint antique pieces, if they are really old then perhaps not. Because you do run the risk of ruining the value of the furniture. But often there are many vintage pieces that are not truly unique, although beautiful, often a new paint color and other updates can turn a piece from ho-hum to spectacular. So I do think it depends on the piece of furniture and research should always be checked to be sure it's not a rare or very old. But this transformation is very well done.
A whole lot better. Thank you for sharing your ideas. I think I need to order some aviary. It’s such a pretty paint. You haven’t ruined anything yet so keep up the great videos. Thanks again.
Sonnet, I'm only 1:49 into the video and I can already tell that you greatly improved the look of this piece. I will say however.....for ME PERSONALLY, I don't particularly care for that much chintz background. It's too busy for my taste and I think it would limit the display items. But I can see someone's collection of white pottery pieces, etc., would look terrific! OK, now to see what you actually did LOL wow, I am not disappointed in the way it turned out! You definitely improved it and your instructions on applying the chintz inlay was very good. Oh, and I LOVED the way you did the crockery pieces! I need to find more crocks, or things that I can make look like crocks!
What a transformation!! I wouldn’t have put the original in my home but this piece is GORGEOUS!! I think this is my favorite piece of furniture you’ve ever done! ❤️❤️❤️

Absolutely beautiful, just remember they can’t see it from their house! Don’t let the negative Nancy’s get you down!
This is absolutely gorgeous! Don’t listen to the naysayers out there - you do you! We all hear the don’t paint comments but as you said, sometimes these pieces just need something extra. You did a beautiful job, Sonnet! ❤️
The hutch is beautiful. You made it 100% better. It wasn’t an antique anyway, just maybe vintage. Well done!
Omg stop listening to everyone. You do you! Tape wherever you want and do your flips how ever you want. The hutch is magnificent and I love the inlays and that green is my favorite also. It's called UPcycling for a reason! You made a thing of beauty. The rose chintz is just perfect for the piece.
Sometimes I wonder about people. I would never tell someone they ruined something. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The hutch is going and I love the crocks also. In addition to the sandy blonde. I also love the faded burlap. Thanks Sonnet
