    'Bokeh' has become very 'fashionable' in recent years. It doesn't however mean 'out of focus', but is used to describe the qualities of the points of light which are blurred. These are dependant upon the construction of the lens and some lenses can create more aesthetically pleasing blurring than others.

    Hi, thanks for the review! How good is the autofocus tracking / follow focus of the HC-X2000 for fast moving sports or animals like a closeup of a galloping horse at the beach (with the cameraguy close by)?

    • @yk3550
      @yk3550  2 года назад +1

      Hi, personally, I find the auto focus is good if it's shooting in higher frame rate like > 30 with matching shutter speed in daylight. It struggles a little when I was shooting in low light 24 fps with shutter at 1/24. Whereas for tracking, many reported that it works fine, but I have not tried it because it must be set to Full Auto mode in order to work. I shoot in manual mode with occasional AF/MF switching and manual controls in most other params such as shutter speed. I am afraid I can't comment much on AF tracking. I will try to shoot some sample with AF tracking.

      Unfortunately my beloved old Panasonic AG-DVX200 recently got irreparable water damage at the beach, therefore now I'm looking for a new camera as good as my DVX200. I film horse races at the beach, always in 50/60p (for smooth slomo) and always in 4K, in default settings. DSLRs are No Option for me since I need smooth and continuous zoom. I always film in broad daylight, so Low light is not an issue for me. My budget ist max. 2.000€ (I bought my old DVX200 used).

    How you grading your raw footage? What software you use?

    • @yk3550
      @yk3550  3 года назад +1

      Hi, this very video isn't graded. It's basically filmed with Cine D profile straight out of the camera. I am not a grading expert, and I usually perform simple grading in Final Cut using the built-in tools. Since there's no Log profile, so there's no LUT being used.

    Impressive! I am still struggling with the quality of my X2000. Too much noise! What are your settings in detail?

    • @yk3550
      @yk3550  3 года назад +3

      Hi, I am using the default settings for all the Profiles. Basically, I only apply DRS on tricky scenes with deep shadows and extreme highlights. Otherwise, noise will be more prominent. Viewing via RUclips does 'remove' some noise vs the actual footages. However, I think those noise is pretty OK. It is fine and not too bad, especially below 18dB. Even some larger cinema cameras do show noise as well in their final products.
      However, I do observe this - a different level of noise reduction kicks in right after 17dB. Try watching live output from the camcorder and toggle between 17dB and 18dB. See the difference. I try not to push above 12dB, and if not necessary, I don't shoot at 60fps. 24 or 30fps gives better result for dimly lit environment (can use lower shutter speed). Anyway, many camcorders/cameras now still can't shoot in 4K 60fps.
      May be we are too used to getting those 'silkly smooth' images from larger sensor cameras. I do have 1", m43, APS-C and FF bodies. But I missed those days with camcorders like VX2000, GY-301, DVX100 etc for their convenience. Comparing them with this little Panasonic, I think the footages from this is much cleaner than those vintage camcorders at 18dB! So, I got this little gem :-)

      @@yk3550 Thank you, now I'm reassured! I used my x200 next to 3 Fujis and was a bit desperate at first. But your recordings made me feel very positive. I'm still struggling with a few settings, especially noise reduction. The auto mode seems to be better right away than anything I can set manually. It would be great to read more of your experiences!

      @@peterujfalusi2764 Auto mode increases noise on many cameras even with larger sensors, especially in low light conditions. The better solution is to understand the limit db of your camera and to "add" more light with a lower shutter speed as suggested.

    • @iancruickshank9364
      @iancruickshank9364 Год назад

      I keep db to 6, don't mess with DRS. In low light try setting shutter to 1/30 or1/25. Experiment with scenes.

    • @yk3550
      @yk3550  3 года назад +1

      Hi, I am not sure what kind of "bokeh" you are referring to. Many sections in my videos do include shallow DoF effects (bokeh), like this video 0:16s segment. If you are referring to "wide angle bokeh", I don't think it's possible on this camcorder with a small sensor of 1/2.5". It's not the characteristic nor the target use of this unit.
      Bokeh is possible from the long tele end, even at f4.0, eg 400mm and above, depending on the focusing distance. Macro shots for example, the DoF is really shallow even at f4.0.
      I am working on another sample clip which I think can answer some of your queries. Will try to upload by this week. Sorry for my busy schedule. Thanks for watching.
