Congratulations Garlin Gilchrist as of Nov 2018, voted Michigan's first African American Lieutenant Governor. Gilchrist losing the county clerk's election by 1,300 votes in 2017 always seemed suspect. As a New Yorker, I lived through both urban blight, and now decades of regentrification, which brought me to this Tedx seminar; then I noticed that I recognized Garlin from other media, as he is younger than I, however politically woke regarding Israel's policies and how they affect Palestinians almost oppressing them as the Germans oppressed the Jews , who created Israel as a result of their oppression; now they are the oppressors. That observation of his wide range of interests aside, Gilchrist is an asset to the new Governor of Michigan, and she knows that his outreach experience in community organizing, as well as creating the information tech network for Michigan citizens to report various issues , shows his youth, expertise and his technology savvy will be an asset to her administration.
I don't blame him for trying. But, to badly understate it, getting anyone, even more so the middle-class people he's after, to move back to Detroit is a tough, tough sell.
