    That happened to me once. It was on my face. I have to admit that I was pressing on it. I had to go to the dermatologist as soon as I could. It seems like he drained it, but it’s been so long ago I don’t remember it I had anything else done. I learned my lesson.

    If keratin is part of the body, then why does it become an irritant and infectious?

    • @DrMudgil
      @DrMudgil  2 года назад +3

      Great question! Keratin is supposed to "live" in a hair follicle, in a nail, or on the surface of the skin. When it escapes into the skin the body considers it a foreign body of sorts.

      @@DrMudgil I guess it would be like people who get an eye infection after they lick their contacts and put them back into their eyes; saliva doesn't belong in your eye! As always, thanks 👍 for the info , Doc!💚🙏

    Interesting! So would we call this an abscess?

    • @DrMudgil
      @DrMudgil  2 года назад +1

      Great question! An abscess is actually something different (it's a bacterial infection), but it looks VERY similar.

  • @Phatnaru0002
    @Phatnaru0002 2 года назад +2

    Is there anything you can do at that point?
    Also, does size matter? If this does happen, how likely is it to enflame and need to see a doctor? It's not guaranteed, is it?

    • @DrMudgil
      @DrMudgil  2 года назад

      When a ruptured cyst is acutely inflamed, it can be drained, treated with intralesional steroids, and sometimes antibiotics too. You should definitely check in with a board certified dermatologist in such a situation. 😉

      @@DrMudgil Thank you. I ask, because I have no transportation. It would be extremely difficult for me to go to a dermatologist or even a doctor, so I'm trying to find out if it's necessary.

    I'm on clindamyacin right now for a huge abscess on my armpit. It was awful as heck... It's been drained and packed twice.

    Why do some cysts look Snow White on the outside and others look like raw hamburger
