Finally! I'm reading someone who loves this game as much as I do. To be honest, I am admitting to have a better time with this game than I did with TTYD. SO good.
This is a great cover of a great song, but I think you played a different game then I did. The game's art does what it sets out to do, but I wouldn't call it "gorgeous" by any stretch. The devs just made paper things look like paper. What I care about is the game's substance. I can stare at colorful photo-realistic paper at 2-3 different hobby stores 5 minutes away from me. The dialogue is meh. The best reaction it ever got out of me was the occasional weak smile. The story is about as by-the-numbers and forgettable as it could possibly get, except for the messed up part halfway through. It even has what I call a "Guren Lagann ending". The battles aren't even battles. They're rock-em sock-em robots with an annoying puzzle at the start. There's zero strategy in them other than trying to line enemies up into one of two formations and hitting them with an attack that matches that. Boss fights are all puzzle, except in boss battles the devs routinely left out critical information about how to win that I could only discover by accident, or by failing first. The areas are anything but unique, especially if you're familiar with Japanese/Chinese culture at all. If anything it's lazy and out of place. I see it from a lot of Japanese writers. When there's an overabundance of Japan-isms in their stuff, they don't have to invent anything. Plenty of writers do it, and it isn't always bad, but I see it in anime and Japanese video games a lot more often.

And if you're going to make Origami King covers anyway, I wouldn't mind a sort of silly parody-ish rendition of the Snif Hotel pool/lobby song. Even though I don't really like the game, I think it almost justifies it's existence just by having that one little song playing in that one room.

I am still baffled by this game's OST being what it is. Suddenly crazy bass and wailing guitars in a Paper Mario game of all things. I mean loved the first two but haven't played one since TTYD.
If this is how Autumn Mountain Battle turned out, then imagine what kind of absolute banger would come out of a Middle Boss Battle cover. (or heck, any of the boss themes)
Origami King has such a great soundtrack. The game itself is also pretty good overall. I won't say it's better than 64 or ttyd but I think it stands up better than any of the games since then.
