    For not a well known city, Albany has great architecture!!! I think it has more architectural character than many cities much bigger, particularly in the sun belt.

    Hey guys! I wish I would've come across your amazing channel 9 months ago! I live about 10mins right outside of Albany and Troy NY in Cohoes! I would've loved to have you come to the Cohoes Falls, about 3mins from where I stay it's BEAUTIFUL! You two AND Ollie would've LOVED it! There's a little walkway bridge over water that you walk across first before coming right over to an amazing waterfall & view! And you can also go down a steep bit of stairs to get real close to the bottom of the waterfall. Years ago you could actually walk out on the waterfall rocks at the bottom but it's closed now. But I'd absolutely love you guys to visit again & be able to go to the Falls one day!!🤍 Happy Travels to your beautiful family & Good luck!🥰

      There was also a great Museum right there across the street from the Plaza & The Egg that I think you'd really enjoy when you come back! There's even a carousel that you can ride on the top floor of the Museum haha 🎠

    Here in the great lakes, the bouys and the lights have to withstand the ice floes. The wood poles would just snap off.

    Shojo tie up awesome! I became really good at roping just like a cow. Then a cross of rock climbing and boating with a little cowboy! So I saw an older man had a pvc pipe and would loop docks and reload so fast it looked like art! He showed me a clip were his bass boat putting in his pictures pole would loop the dock automatically. I think he posted on RUclips and it's worth seeing!

    It's kind of impossible to drive a wood piling into rock. Therefore: metal structures on rockpiles. 😀 The Southern ICW is mostly mud bottom, so driven pilings are the norm. You prolly won't see wooden piles again 'till you hit the Illinois River.

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 года назад

      makes sense!

    • @woodside63
      @woodside63 Год назад

      @@SchoandJo Another possible reason is that there can be a lot of ice in fresh water in winter; wood pilings can be chewed up by ice moving with the current.

    • @michaelgarrity6090
      @michaelgarrity6090 Год назад

      @@woodside63 This is the exact reason the lights and daymarks on the Hudson are built this way. They call the structures they sit on either "ice piers" or "ice breakers." I boat the Ohio River and the shape of bridge abutments and other structures are such so that not only the water flows around them, but so does the ice. In many spots on the Ohio and other rivers in temperate climates, they will build a set of ice piers above major river towboat "fleeting" locations to reduce the risk ice poses to the tow boats and the barges as they are docked. On the Ohio and other rivers in that region, the Coast Guard puts the daymarks and lights on structures built up on the riverbanks, not in the river course.

Good architecture and terrific restaurants.
