Fun fact regarding the Western influence in Speed Racer. The mangaka who created the original manga (Mach Go Go Go) cited two Western icons as inspiration for his manga: James Bond and Elvis Presley. He basically combined the amped up, gadget-filled Astin Martin DB5 from the movie Goldfinger with the cross-country road racing featured in the movie Viva Las Vegas and got Mach Go Go Go (or, as we know it, Speed Racer).
Also, in regard to the "Western Influence" in Japan is the book, The Four Japans, Child, Enemy, Mirror, Allie. It about the relationship with Japan and the United States.
As a casual who loves analyses, I really loved all your insights you observed about what the depicted food teach us about lot more stuff about the culture
I think this is the most versatile, creative, influential video of all time. I love the fact how he went from the 1920 to 2024 and he picked amazing anime for the decades that right there is true creativity like think about it he went on every decade and made all the food in that decade.
teared up a little as you introduced these shows i've grown up with. my relationship with food has had its up and downs, but immersing yourself in a world where a steamed potato is the best dish your favorite character can afford during some of their difficult times, really makes you appreciate how far food has gotten, from flavor to ease of access.
"Do not cite the deep magic to me witch, I was there when it was written!" Honestly, you hitting on Sailor Moon made my happy otaku senshi heart happy. I grew up on it, and while I eventually watched it subbed, when it was dubbed I learned so much. And apparently the 'After School Special' part of it at the end was only in the US, or so I heard.
You hand skills for onigi is perfection. Lupin III is still being produced. Miyazaki isn’t technically solely responsible for all Ghibli films. There were other founders. Him and another that worked for toei before starting the company. Since we are here what’s everyone’s favorite Ghibli piece?
@ I’d have to say mine is probably nostalgic bias but Kiki’s Delivery Service. But you’re spot on for what could possibly be the best in every category.
This was so cool. Adding in a lot more history and culture beyond just what we see on the screen, which recontextualizes the stalwart recipes you've made over and over. They're in the textbook for good reason! As well as showcasing less well-known anime most of us won't know about, and putting them into context. And since audiences of the time would likely be watching their anime while eating, what they would be eating would be a part of how they experienced that anime. I also really liked how the many dishes in this video therefore shows off your plating practices across the various different kinds of dishes.
people will argue "but there are other mashoujo girl anime's out there" but i'll still stand on sailor moon being the pioneer of mashoujo girl animes and all it's troupe.
Keep making food pls as an Army cook and home cook dude you’ve inspired so much creativity and fun through my cooking pls stay creative and keep playing with food even if you make some wild crazy series making wacky food combos it’ll suit well for you, Thanks Paul 🎉❤
Thanks for the history lesson. Proof that anime is much more than just entertainment. Izakaya Nobu and Restaurant to Another World are great since it depicts other worlders eating our world's food.
fun fact, fries are from europe, country from fench and used to boiled at animal fat, cant rememeber what animal but it was back then rich peoples food and hello from Finland, i would love to see if you make video of Finland food culture and maybe try snacks as well the famous ''Salmiakki'' candy
The way I would love it is having Anime characters with Specific favorite foods Example, HyperDimension Neptunia the Animation has Neptune and her favorite Japanese Custard pudding 🍮 And even Blanc's Favorite fruit being Tangerines 🍊 (She also loves Nato) And from what I remember Noire really likes Chocolate
Knowing that one of the first anime was in the 1920's always breaks my sense of time, the fact that World War 1 and one of the earliest anime are near each other in time feels wrong
I was not expecting Speed Racer. Not a lot of people I know have seen it or know about it. And if they do, it’s because of memes or the live action movie.
Love your videos man as a marine corp cook I found your channel and have enjoyed watching to this very day. As a fan of food and anime I love watching. Would love to be part of a video some day
"Miyazaki, the man behind all of the Studio Ghibli films". Um . . . We really going to ignore Isao Takahata, Hiroyuki Morita, Hiromasa Yonebayashi, Yoshifumi Kondo and probably a bunch of others like that?
tbf a lot of the reason people dont like naruto and older anime is a lot of anime had pacing issues and was expected to be played on television back then. its why theres so many flash backs , recaps and so much of stuff can feel like filler. they had to make sure people who missed an episode were caught up and they were trying to make a small amount of a manga last a whole episode
Two anime shows that come to mind in regards to cooking, outside of Toriko, would be Yakitate!! Japan & Chūka Ichiban! (True Cooking Master Boy). A enjoyable live action show in regards to Japanese cooking that I found fun was Samurai Gourmet.
Really fun and meaningful video. I fully subscribe to the belief that the best way to learn about the history of any given location is to learn about that culture's relationship to food. While I think Blue Lock works for Japan specifically in the 2020's, I would argue the anime that has had the greatest impact on world culture during this early part of the decade has been Frieren. Frieren was an anime so excellent in its overall quality that I would argue it is one of the first anime series to gain critical acclaim not just with those who are familiar with the industry, but with the world at large. It unseated Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood as the highest rated Anime on MAL and holds a 100% Fresh Rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Frieren is frequently covered and discussed outside of Anime focused circles and I think perfectly represents the growing trend in recent years of the world at large taking the culture of Japan as something that is mainstream and praise worthy without qualifiers or caveats. In the past few years alone, 'The Boy and the Heron,' became the second Anime film ever to win the Best Animated Feature award at the Academy Awards and Shogun has been cleaning up all the major awards shows. No other Anime series this decade is as reflective of Japan's rise to prominence in world culture as Frieren in my opinion, with more than a few outlets praising it as potentially the greatest piece of fantasy since Lord of the Rings.
I was absolutely on the fence in 2020. I had locked and loaded Frieren for 2020, but seeing Blue Lock represented at the World Cup pushed it over the top. Trust me, Frieren is the better anime.
I am so surprised that with all of the amazing anime food that you have made, you still haven’t made anything from Resturaunt to Another World or Otherworldly Izakaya (aka Isekai Izakaya). Anyway, I love this video and I love everything that you do.
My brother and I watched speed racer as a kid and both of my parents also watched it during the original run as kids. 10:39 I ate so much ramen in high school paritally because we were poor af and because of naruto that I wouldn't touch it for years after that. 😂
And in the case of gandalf, he always requires his food tax in every video, no matter the if it's the 1930s or 2020s Oh and toei also works on dragonball!
Loved all of your picks! But Ngl wish other food anime became more popular, most notably Mister Ajiko. While the English translation needs improvement 😆 the story’s so good and I bet it would be as popular as Food Wars 🤔
Me personally i think nattl is great and the first time i ate it it was also very good There was a particular brand that was very smelly so Could you maybe tell me the brand of the natto you buy
how can you do the 50s, using an anime set in China and not do Ramen! Ramen became properly Japanese around that time and Momofuku Endo invented instant Ramen in 1958. what a missed opportunity.
All we need is someone to eat. 14:32 I knew it. Well, DragonBall popularized the Shonen Battle manga (whilst Fist of the North Star is the Pioneer) So, I'll give it a pass.
Meant to add after watching the full thing with the spouse: great choices, and glad to see the nod again to Food Wars, which DEFINITELY changed a lot of how we perceive food in anime! Although Blue Lock feels like cheating, especially since you didn't eat MORE natto, haha XD
Miso is NOT in fact amazing in all of it's forms. Go try the white packet dehydrated miso you can get at Walmart and other retailers for some very, very sad miso.
@ fair but I humbly draw your attention to the special Sanji bento. Twice. The one he made for his mum and the one he made for the crew. I also draw your attention to the tangerines for Nami and that connection to family. I also draw your attention to the fact Frankie can’t function without cola. I also draw your attention to the curry episode. Food is how Luffy finds Ace in Alabasta. Chopper and the mushrooms… The restaurant and its significance with meeting Sanji. Sanjis food philosophy. Oden in Wano. Cake island. Food plays way more part in One Piece than it does in Naruto.
Er.... Well , he picked ramen over one piece, ...... I think he made enough devil fruits I would have choose to end with bento by demon slayer or the manju for gojou satoru but that works.....
@@CHEFPKR bento well, u did it before 2012, manju actually impacts asia dessert, tbh all asian have their own version of manju, even a Malaysian like myself
I hope you all like this one... It took me way too long to make but it was worth it :)

Aww poor Gandalf, he really wants the food you are making

I will say Howl's Moving Castle

I honestly love everything about this video. Great creativity, great education, great food, great host.
I love tasting history
It would be cool to see a dinner course that represents a whole anime series apps, mains, sides and desserts as well
Closest right now is my Feast series, but I had thought about doing a high end anime meal series with other creators.
Just costs a lot to do that.
fun fact, fries are from europe, country from fench and used to boiled at animal fat, cant rememeber what animal but it was back then rich peoples food and hello from Finland, i would love to see if you make video of Finland food culture and maybe try snacks as well the famous ''Salmiakki'' candy
Dude my mouth is beyond watering right now!
The Gandalf cat zoom is wonderful.
This is basically a Marathon of Cooking and I love it
Lupin the third is so iconic. I named my first cat as an adult after fujiko and kept naming my pets anime names since.
I got a chuckle when the fish came out and the cat started eyeing it real quick lol. Thanks for the great video.

Never knew history lessons could be this tasty!
Perfect video to watch when I'm hungry XD
This is interesting. Much more than the history of the burger.
I was not expecting Speed Racer. Not a lot of people I know have seen it or know about it. And if they do, it’s because of memes or the live action movie.
I am aware of Speed Racer but wasn't able to watch the show.
Love your videos man as a marine corp cook I found your channel and have enjoyed watching to this very day. As a fan of food and anime I love watching. Would love to be part of a video some day
Thanks Paul...now I have random anime OP's playing in my head and want dango
Damn ... I have been humming the speed racer theme for the last 10 min straight ... it's not leaving my head anytime soon.
Taro’s Train my favorite anime ong the plot is immaculate
Loved this episode ^^ If you haven't seen it yet, Yumeiro Pâtissière is super cute and also involves food (albeit in a very fantasy vibe)
What a delicious trip through history
The spirit of Blue Lock was with the Blue Samurai team during the fifa world cup 😂😂
For some reason, it’s wild to think the anime has been around for 100 years
Loved the video my 1st anime would be Pokemon which is so nostalgic and sad it ended now.
Fun fact: I have a dvd of Tale of the White Serpent from my childhood, but on the disc it was called Panda and the Magic Serpent
This is a true history lesson about anime.
tasting history mentioned :D
"Miyazaki, the man behind all of the Studio Ghibli films".
Um . . . We really going to ignore Isao Takahata, Hiroyuki Morita, Hiromasa Yonebayashi, Yoshifumi Kondo and probably a bunch of others like that?

Unironically Naruto on cartoon network after 10pm was what gave me a love of ramen, and anime before I knew what anime was.
100%
12:50 those are the same naruto and boruto episodes i've seen. Nice
I am so surprised that with all of the amazing anime food that you have made, you still haven’t made anything from Resturaunt to Another World or Otherworldly Izakaya (aka Isekai Izakaya). Anyway, I love this video and I love everything that you do.
I have! About 5-6 videos from years back.
@ oh wow I thought I saw all of your videos. Do they no longer have them on RUclips? Would you consider doing an update of those?
Campfire Cooking in Another World is another good one… just sayin’
My brother and I watched speed racer as a kid and both of my parents also watched it during the original run as kids. 10:39
I ate so much ramen in high school paritally because we were poor af and because of naruto that I wouldn't touch it for years after that. 😂
Speed Racer was the first anime I ever saw, even though I was born in the 90s
Iron Chef meets High-School DxD.....yeah, that's a good descriptor of it
Have you fall about getting you cat some food
Loved this episode 👍👏👏👏👏
This is amazing
Hey. ONI-GIMME some food ps happy birthday ❤
This title. This opening hook. WOW - Jarad
And in the case of gandalf, he always requires his food tax in every video, no matter the if it's the 1930s or 2020s
Oh and toei also works on dragonball!
No love for Chuuka Ichiban makes me sad :(
Loved all of your picks! But Ngl wish other food anime became more popular, most notably Mister Ajiko. While the English translation needs improvement 😆 the story’s so good and I bet it would be as popular as Food Wars 🤔
Hell yeah, yakitate Japan
lol vampire Michael Jackson that’s hilarious😂
Fun fact: I have never experienced a foodgasm.
cooking master boy and yakitate japann was completely forgotten
COOKING ANIME SUGGESTION- YAKITATE JAPAN AND MR AJJIKO!!!
Initial d mentioned!
I saw Wing Gundam Zero at the background😮😮
Sad to not hear about One Piece 2000's Fried Rice...but meh, whatever other anime (like Naruto's Ramen) are good too :)
Do you have the gyudon recipe written anywhere?
awe.. what a polite sniffer.
Me personally i think nattl is great and the first time i ate it it was also very good
There was a particular brand that was very smelly so
Could you maybe tell me the brand of the natto you buy
We ripping of guga with this one
This format is suuuuper old
We all know everyone has seen highschool DxD, especially if they watched food wars.
how can you do the 50s, using an anime set in China and not do Ramen! Ramen became properly Japanese around that time and Momofuku Endo invented instant Ramen in 1958. what a missed opportunity.
It was pretty difficult to choose when it came to both Anime and Food, like everything on the channel
in the comic one was about eating in traditional India? from an American stand point, think Indianan Jones. No Voltron and Manga Meat nods?
All we need is someone to eat.
14:32 I knew it. Well, DragonBall popularized the Shonen Battle manga (whilst Fist of the North Star is the Pioneer) So, I'll give it a pass.
Petition for CHEFPK to do Okarun diet!!! (to join just like. And goal is 100+)
:)
was waiting for doreyaki....
17:34 one Piece one piece was in 1999
of ALL the F-ing Anime 2020 he takes Blue Lock, REALLY!? XD
How about freaking delicious in dungeon hue hue hue!!!
Ahh yes, the obligatory 3 episodes of boruto, seems like 3 is the limit.
Where are your food wars reaction videos man? I miss them.
Day 1 of asking chef to make Devil may cry feast
Your Goku noodles just look like Yaki soba to me
W video
Maybe it's the Canadian me... but I remember different anime influence..
That being said, what food would one choose for Astroboy or Macross
Astroboy, the donuts.
@CHEFPKR yes!
uh oh... he's got the stockholm syndrome for natto! lol
Great video, chef!
Also you totally skipped Toriko! An anime where everything is literally food
Hard for Toriko since it was in a decade full of win anime. Imo, Toriko isn't on Food Wars levels
@ maybe not food wars that’s true.
skipped ahead to Gandalf, ngl =D
Meant to add after watching the full thing with the spouse: great choices, and glad to see the nod again to Food Wars, which DEFINITELY changed a lot of how we perceive food in anime! Although Blue Lock feels like cheating, especially since you didn't eat MORE natto, haha XD
Bro what about Pokemon its an anime and it has one of the largest fan bases on the planet
While I do agree on Pokémon being massive, it's only contribution to food culture is the Jelly Donut
@ fair enough
When you said “the grandfather 👴 of all anime” my scouter broke
why does he remind me of sypherpk
Miso is NOT in fact amazing in all of it's forms. Go try the white packet dehydrated miso you can get at Walmart and other retailers for some very, very sad miso.
Vampire Michael Jackson gets cooked by the Sailor Scouts period. Just saying.
You get it.
der hiess doch michele malou nicht speed racer
EARLY
Propaganda is actually still being used today
5:53 *eats it while its frozen*
3rd
4th
early
Naruto?! You didn’t do One Piece? Shame!
I tried to watch Naruto and got bored
One piece is important, but not as much for food imo
@ fair but I humbly draw your attention to the special Sanji bento. Twice. The one he made for his mum and the one he made for the crew.
I also draw your attention to the tangerines for Nami and that connection to family.
I also draw your attention to the fact Frankie can’t function without cola.

Chopper and the mushrooms…
The restaurant and its significance with meeting Sanji.
Sanjis food philosophy.
Oden in Wano.
Cake island.
Food plays way more part in One Piece than it does in Naruto.
Er.... Well , he picked ramen over one piece, ...... I think he made enough devil fruits
I would have choose to end with bento by demon slayer or the manju for gojou satoru but that works.....
Unfortunately, I don't think those 3 had an impact on food
@@CHEFPKR bento well, u did it before 2012, manju actually impacts asia dessert, tbh all asian have their own version of manju, even a Malaysian like myself
