- This is the first ever look at a set of racing accident images when Larry Dixon's Top Fuel car broke into pieces at almost 300 MPH. Geoff Stunkard gives the background on Dixon and the day at the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, FL when this occurred. In addition to Stunkard's unpublished photos is a review of the cause of the accident by examination of the video footage released by NHRA as well as some footage of Dixon's incredible incident in Australia soon afterward.
#NHRA #topfuel #dragster #nitro racing is an exciting but dangerous sport. It is a tribute to NHRA's standards for racecar construction that this did not result in more serious injury or death. Powered by Nitromethane, both Top Fuel and #funnycar machines are presently capable of speeds exceeding 330 MPH, traversing a 1000-foor course in under 4 seconds.
Thank You Geoff!
Love the content Geoff! Thank you very much for sharing!
Great photos! A scary piece of history. Thank you for sharing with everyone.
Glad you enjoyed it. Got to find time to dig up more!
Enjoying the drag racing history.
Great stuff Geoff. Just wondering if you had ever gotten pictures of a black and gold or silver Cuda with a 440 driven by Lee Vetland in Englishtown, island or Maple grove racetracks, eventually it was repainted red?
Not that I recall, but what era did it race in...
@@gszookeeper77 80’s-90’s maybe late 70’s. It was black and silver, black and gold then all red. He also had a mid 60’s Belvedere painted the same way that Chip Hunter drove. It was out of pine top service/Lee’s auto body from Avenel NJ. I know in the 60’s Lee had a 65 factory Hemi car I believe it was sponsored by Mauro motors, but that was before my time as I was born in 67.
Great stuff, Geoff!!!
RIP Parnelli Jones.
