When I was a kid, (late 30' early 40's) our local theater had a 1pm Saturday matinee. Double feature, three cartoon, one chapter of a serial, and what seemed like a year's worth of previews. It was great. You could cheer and boo and if you brought your cap gun (and we all did) help the good guys catch the bad. I saw this wonderful movie then. When I watch it now, I regret I no longer have a cap gun, but I am thinking of getting one. I can't thank you enough for helping an old man be 12 again.
When I was very young, my dad made me watch these Tracy films with him. According to him, "You'll never take me alive, coppers!" was my first full sentence. Thanks, dad.
You know what I love about these films? Their corniness, but they're so entertaining. The names for the characters are hilarious. Jules Sparkle, the gems dealer, Cueball the bald headed villain, Little, the mousy diamond cutter, and the antiques dealer, Percival Priceless.
I bet it wasn't considered corny or campy back then. Lots of present day films we consider cool or realistic will someday be considered corny too but still entertaining for some.

We had no movie theater any near us and TV was unheard of, but the Sunday Star had Dick Tracy! Even my mom got in on the comic strip! Great to watch the series, so much silliness and yet a plot and drama! It doesn’t get much better! Mr. Sparkles, the jeweler, to funny! A bald guy called Cueball! Lady Casserole! 🤣😂😅These writers had to have a great time writing these scripts! Even the signs are a crack up. The clues to humor are everywhere! Thank you for posting these little gems!
Black and white movies are the best! The clothing styles of the thirties and forties beats anything we wear today. Women were women and men were men. Video pollution has ruined everything. Too bad.
Damn, I thought he was wearing a Yarmulke. So it's a skull cap. I need to get me one of those. No more sun burn on my bald head. Maybe even a tiny little one for Blacks beach. (Google it) As John Cadogan (google and watch it) says got to keep thing safe 'down there'. 😯😉☺
I thought Dick Tracy's Dilemma was boring, and I didn't watch all of it. This one was interesting and funny at times. It held my attention. But compared to the comic strip, the wrist radio is missing.
@ScreamingScallop I'm 37 and first saw this on VHS when I was maybe 9 or 10 and remembered feeling slightly uneasy the first time I saw Dick Wessel (the actor who played Cueball), whom I thought had a very powerful presence and forceful personality. I've seen several of these old black and white Dick Tracy movies and none of the other villians gave quite the same vibe to me. In my opinion, it just shows the excellent performance Dick Wessel gave in his role! Of the 4 RKO Radio Dick Tracy productions, this one's definitely my favorite with Dick Tracy, Detective (1945) a close second.
Skelton was also in "Dick Tracy Meets Gruesome." He has a more prominent role in that movie, here he just has a few scenes. He also died at 43, and he's about 34 or 35 here! Sadly, his alcoholism got him.
Fitting for the role, certainly. He was in a good bit of 1930s - 1950s stuff, but he was usually uncredited, like in "Isle of the Dead" where he had a minor role the first plague victim to die. He had a more prominent role in "Dick Tracy Meets Gruesome," though. He also died at 43 of his alcoholism; Cirrhosis of the Liver. He looks older than he really is in this movie - he was born in 1911, so depending on when the movie was filmed, he was 34 or 35.

Movies for kids! Smoking, drinking, loose women, murder... Ah, back when things were better. Not like today, with, um, video games, and, uh, um, kids today. Something about the music they listen to? "Millennials"? Um... healthcare?
Jason is shown to be extremely intelligent and high-functioning, while possessing some tactical sense and strategic planning despite his hydrocephalic deformities. He lays traps for his victims as seen in Part 2, can be seen restraining victims to avoid detection, and he carefully arranges the bodies of his victims, occasionally using them as blockades or projectiles. His sense of direction is perfect, as he is always able his way wherever he wants to go, usually back to Crystal Lake even from long distances. He can escape all manner of bonds. Every one of his kills is unique, and he always finds creative ways to get to his victims as well.
Filthy-Flora makes this DT version the classic best of DT features. Her drooping eye was really scary while she was getting the knotted rope. I kinda wish DT would have made Conway's career but he was not resigned to play the part and was shortly out of the business (selling real estate in New York). All the actors create great characters, led by Conway who appears to really have embraced the role. What's Obama got to do with these splendid Saturday afternoon delights??
