I just worked on a 2004 2500 6.0 with p0171 p0174 p0456and p0300. Lean on both banks with a random misfire and small evap leak. Couldn't see any obvious vacuum leaks to create a lean condition so hooked up my fuel pressure gauge as I had a suspicion the pump was bad because of how loud the fuel pump was whining when the ignition was cycled on. I had 55psi of fuel pressure then burped the throttle and it would drop to 20psi. So simple diagnosis the weak and noisey fuel pump was creating a lean condition and random misfires. Dropped the fuel tank and Replaced the fuel pump (which the top was rotted out causing my small evap leak) and cleared the codes then went on a test drive all was good until the following day I took another test drive to make sure all monitors were set and the CEL started flashing, the p0300 code returned but no other codes. Monitored my misfires and they only showed up around 2000 rpm none at idle. Ended up switching some plugs around and nothing changed as far as which cylinders were misfiring. My fuel trims were all good within +/- 5% on both banks. I ended up doing a crankshaft position sensor relearn with my scanner and went back to monitoring the misfires at 2000 rpm and they were gone. So the point of that long story was after I replaced the fuel pump which corrected my lean misfires but yet the truck still saw random cylinder misfires even though the engine ran smooth and was not actually misfiring the crank sensor was just strangely reporting them. Relearned the CKP and now it's fine no more misfires showing up on the scanner at 2000 rpm. I know you have to re learn them after replacement but the sensor wasn't new so not sure why it had to be relearned. Maybe this will help somebody that's trying to diagnose misfires that don't even exist.
Your a good person Keith much respect. I have a friend Vietnam Vet. Agent Orange casualty. Just has his G.I. disability. I do all the diagnose and wrench spinning on his 99 Ranger no charge. His Ranger is to the point where the frame rust not safe. He really can't afford a car payment. He needs a vehicle to visit his autistic son who is in a home. I am debating trying to get a bunch of us together chip in and get a cheap craigslist car. Even if it needs an engine as long as it's solid. I would do the engine swap. We need to respect the first responders and those who served this country to keep us safe. So once again much respect. (BTW this is no way a solicitation for money) I just hope it encourages more people like you to help even if it is just to offer them a ride somewhere.
Awesome diag, Keith, and kudos for giving back! Physical limitations kept me from military and civil service, but I'm proud to be able to serve those that serve their country and community, Police, Fire, EMT and Military alike!
Enjoyed the diagnosis. It's satisfying when a cause can be identified. If after all the engine data comes back normal, I've found the a crankshaft variation relearn will often address a P0300 on a GM small block. Thanks Keith and thanks to all the people that put themselves in harms way to protect us.
All the people from 911 suffered in many ways. A friend of mine here in Toronto had a business in the buildings and lost her employees. She was on her way there. So sad for everyone! Great you are helping him out!!!
Nicely done Keith! Clear flood and listening to the cranking cadence is quickly done on most all vehicles to help verify mechanical faults.I sure like that Farsight tablet.
Which vehicles don't have clear flood mode? And is there a way to find out besides trial and error and possibly revving it's too too high of an RPM. Been there done that!
Great video thanks brother. I respect everyone of the first responders and our military people. 9/11 I was there really early Saturday morning around 2 am. We had around 12 loads of crane parts to get there ASAP. I will never forget. That is really good the test you ran to pinpoint the problem. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother. 12 of around 42 loads the operator has lung problems also. I really have a lot of respect for each and every one of them.

As always great video Keith. Great diagnostic process. It’s unfortunate so many people have been affected by 9/11 & some people seem to have forgotten already.
Monster truck huh? Nice! I love working on peoples toys from time to time. I have a 03 Cobra with a Whipple at the shop now that’s I’m putting a Mcleod dual clutch in. The guy who owns it works out of town and for Father’s Day his son installed dual GT fuel pumps as a surprise but didn’t know that you need to run a modified FPDM or dual FPDMs with that setup. When I get done with the clutch I’m going to have to wire all of that up as well as require his Kenne Bell boost a pump before the fpdm since someone wired it in after the module. It’s a nice little project and a welcome change of pace. Plus, he trusts me with his cars so he told me to take it out and rip it (his words not mine 😂) when I’m done to make sure everything is running right.
Good to have that tool I. Just can't afford it tho I've been able to get by with what tools I do have to keep our vehicles running descent enough to stay on the road when needed but now I'm back to the PO300 again after 4 years with over 250.000 miles on our truck.
Great video. Its nice that GM gives you lots of good tests that you can use. much respect to all Fire and Police departments. Difficult and often under appreciated lines of work.
God-bless you Keith! Super valuable to have confirmation on these GM Injectors that are often tough to pinpoint when they only differ at times 1-2 or if you're lucky 3 psi on a drop test! I've been recommending all 8 whenever I have ruled out everything else that can cause the lean condition, but it's difficult to catch at times on the drop test, heat, several tests, IMHO, seems to be the key if you're trying to catch it, scope loses in that aspect, because it can only show so much electrically, it cannot capture flow rate! Loved this video, you're on it man! Anyways, loved your shout out to local civil servants and I appreciate your time in helping determine faulty injection problems on GM's-super valuable-more than most realize!
