Shinobu Tsurubushi Very true! These women have the hands of a magician. It’s a pity that a lot of people seem more impressed by power. It’s an even greater pity that Radwanska will no longer grace the tennis courts. I wish time machines existed because Hsieh would’ve dominated the tennis world if she were playing before the power tennis era. Hingis was fortunate enough to receive recognition and major titles for her great skills because she rose to fame before power hitting became popular.

anfeild8 I agree. Seles was indeed a phenomenal player with an unorthodox style that stunned Steffi Graf. I recently watched a documentary about her career and her stabbing was simply heartbreaking. She was never the same after that horrific attack.

Met Su Wei at yesterday’s match in Miami. She is so down to earth and likable. She doesnt have the big strong physique of the other players. She actually looks fragile. Takes small steps when she walks. But she is a master at putting the ball exactly where she wants it. Thus, it is not that Osaka or any other player “played poorly”, Su wei’s style of play confounds her opponents and takes them out of their comfort zone. She is very likable. Happy for her. Hope she goes deeper into the draw.

You’re absolutely right. People marvel at her trick shots but her technique on regular shots are just as if not more impressive. She takes the ball so early yet consistently and can time her shots well to counter different spins and turn them into her own angles. Her footwork is also quite good and how she could maintain exceptional balance even when thrown out of the court which never ceases to amaze me.

Hahahaha but I don’t think it has anything really to do with the coach. You can coach the life out of an athlete but if they don’t listen or if they’re just arrogant and passive you as the coach will never get through to them. I feel Naomi thought she had it all figured out and can’t lose to a player not ranked in the top ten. She was pleasantly surprised.
