I loved the pilot and I hope that the momentum of the series does not die, but only get better. The drunk, irate mother reminds me of Angela Basset, which by the way would have played the hell out of that roll also.

Thank you for the recap. People are comparing this to The Wire. But it's a bit different. The gangs and drugs are in this show but they are in the background. This shows that there are hard working folks even in "the hood". I was born and raised in Garfield Park (West Side) and this is a real show...
emmett's (jacob) mom is also claudia from how to get away with murder ! the woman who beat up annalise while she was in jail , but ended being her client for the class action suit . i also thought coogie was a girl in the beginning , so it threw me off when he first spoke . haha . this first episode was very solid . they fit alot into one episode & left me intrigued to find out what happens next .
chris banks BET used to have some #classic reality shows back in the day that they canceled. Do you remember the whole "College Hill" series? I wish they'd bring it back but after that fight on the Virgin Islands season I think they ended the show.
chris banks I miss 106 & Park too! I stopped watching once Bow Wow started hosting & they started switching up the hosts. The got rid of all the music shows on BET. I think BET late night comes on BETher tho. Those Friday night rap battles were #classic & I lived for the performances.

6:01 the d𝚘𝚐 isn’t a stray dog. He is feeding a dog. He has a friendship with, and the dog belongs to whoever lives in the house where the yard is where he is feeding the dog.
Just was able to see this pilot Ashley and I have to be honest, it's sad and depressing. It's like these people have no hope, like everything is going to end in tragedy. Like how that man took the life of another child??? It was well written and acted but damn, it really made me sad. I can't take the assault on my soul every week if nothing positive comes from their lives.

The little kids cursing in the show was worse part about it, it made me uncomfortable. I hate seeing little kids talk like but other than that, it was good.
The show is authentic , if you gonna make a Show about Chicago then this is how kids talk nowadays , They kept it 100 and That's what got me especially being from Chicago ... I give it 2 thumbs up !
