Wow, I can hardly believe this song came from a Super Nintendo game. When I first heard it out of context, I thought it had to be from a much more recent title
And all of a fucking sudden I remember clearly that sunny day where my father was painting the kitchen and my mother was cleaning. 1997. We had the blow up pool outside. My sister made me hot dogs. Chips and root beer. Nostalgia. EDIT : it’s 2021, now me and my sister don’t talk anymore because of politics. Very sad. I felt the heartbreak and I let her go. She used to be my best friend. I wish we could time travel. Sometimes I feel like the worlds really gonna end soon. It is what it is.
Shadowrun SNATCHER That is exactly what I pictured reading that story! The music reminds me of Earthbound and the story reminds me of the "Cup of Coffee/Tea" segments.
+BoxMeme II it was indeed...sadly, we grow up. And it can never be the same again. Never ever ever...even when you revisit those places and people...it's like everything just changed so much...
I just closed my eyes and let myself randomly imagine something. My brain come up with a world that was made of purely shiny metal or glass, with a small dude that than ran around that pixelates into nothing and returns to normal still going about. I read back and think “wtf”
I remember rediscovering this music during the summer of 2011 and throwing it on my iPod to use as nostalgic relaxation music and now THAT period in time is 8 years ago now...why is time so cruel and fast
I remember when i used to play Mario Paint i was about 7 or 8 years old and when i came across this song i did not hate it but it seemed so strange to me... it doesn't have any rhythm, it's not quite as fun as the other songs, i thought to myself. But the song stayed on my mind. Now i'm almost 28 and all of a sudden this song comes back to me. I remember the strangeness. I search for it and listen to it. It gives me chills and brings back a lot happy memories. And now i absolutely LOVE IT :)
man, this song is so moody. really great. I remember taping all the music from this game onto a cassette tape when i was a kid. Listen to it at bedtime, and this track would always relax me and really just knock me out. Great all these years later
Super Mario World Super Mario All-Stars Super Mario Kart Mario Paint Mario is Missing (the 1 redeeming factor in that game) Yoshi's Island The Donkey Kong Country trilogy The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Super Metroid F-Zero Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time Street Fighter II: The World Warrior & Street Fighter II: Turbo Killer Instinct 1 Mortal Kombat 1 Mortal Kombat II Mortal Kombat 3 & Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
I've been falling asleep to this every night :p What does it make you think about? I don't know why, but I get the old nostalgic days laying under my blanket built fort playing some N64 and NES.
+Action Jackson95 it reminds me of a beautiful sunset; as the night approaches, all life gradually tapers off until there's nothing. Nothing but the smell of pine, with a forest floor beneath my feet. After a brief pause, the sky starts to twinkle with stars, some even shooting and spiraling across this blank canvas. Slowly the creatures of the night start to flutter into the scene, radiant, glistening from the light of night. And as the night starts to awaken, I slowly drift away, bound to my slumber.
+Action Jackson95 it reminds me of playing Super Mario 3 on my favorite world, the Big Small one, while snacking on powdered donut balls I had snuck from upstairs. All lights off in a quiet basement, illuminated by the TV screen and fueled by sugar, determination, and 16 bit jams. Just some alone time that seemed so rare at the time. Often accompanied by a blanket fort of sorts! ;)
Damn that sunset one is deep ;) I like how we both get the old days of games because that's exactly what I think about the most. I also think about playing on the trampoline as a kid freeing my imagination. You gotta love music like this to give you peaceful memories like ours :)
This sounds like the music you'd hear in one of those documentaries about conception that you'd watch in middle school health class. Watching the sperm trying to find the egg, and then the fetus slowly grows.
One day i did put this track on my portable music player, went outside in the sun and jut kept walking while listening to this. I spent literally the whole day walking around with this track on non-stop repeat. It was wonderful.
My favorite track of this game it's probably one of the best sounding tracks in SNES history right next to the Original Donkey Kong Country water level
Thank you so much! I had been trying to figure out the genre of this song for YEARS! I'm not even exaggerating when I say you are my hero right now. ;______; thank you so much, man!
I never played Mario Paint when I was a kid, but holy fuck it's hard to believe this piece is 25 years old. I caught it on a nintendo music compilation video and could've sworn it was from a newer game like SM Galaxy - Mario paint though??? Wow.
I just realized something about the music It's moving throughout all of the circle of fifths because the ambient pad chords are going F, C, G, D, A, E, B, F#/Gb, C#/Db, Ab, Eb, Bb, F
It isnt really that depressing to me, but it definatly reminds me of a much simpler time in my life. :) I remember listening to this song and filling in colors on the underwater scene. That was alot of fun.
@Aneurismo - You took the words right out of my mouth, guy. This is an amazing piece. I'm also a composer btw, and video games had a huge impact on my style. Good luck with your band!
Haha, when I was a kid, I used to just put this song on and listen to it for hours. Man, I made so many cartoons with MP, I think I still have some of them recorded on VHS :-D
My house vanished and I'm floating in an endless beautiful field. Me, my computer, my chair and my memories are all that I have when I hear this. Most peaceful song.......ever.
TBH, It feels like itspassing through my head and getting rid of focus more by the second, It made me think i was flying and looking over everything then diving straight down into the ground were all the caves are, Looking around and finding a secret treasure that just catapulted me into the overworld but still mindless and also flying in space to mercury than the sun. It made me think when i had my first computer i LOVED playing these on an emulator. Best thing to listen to. When disturbed. :D
@Aneurismo same here ma friend, got mario paint when I was 5, got super mario world when I was 3. Many songs appear during an improvisation with keyboards, guitars or any instrument I grab.
i remember my older brother had this game, and i always liked playing it. then one day, the mouse decided to crap out on us. about 7 years later i got a copy of this game along with a mouse from the same brother for my 12th birthday. its awesome how today i am 17, and this is still one of my favorite games ever.
Nostalgia hits! This song made me think of a funeral when I first heard it. Nowadays it reminds me of Donkey Kong Country, specifically Aquatic Ambience.
I remember me and my cousins staying up playing this at 3 am as kids. We had the gamecube and ps2, but we'd always come to my grandmas super nintendo for this game
This one's so soothing, ^_^ much different from the other two tunes. TBH, I never really used this tune, maybe because it seemed too slow and boring at the time, so I never heard this one from start to finish. But listening to this entire video.... It's beautiful! I can't believe I overlooked the charm and peace this song has.
this bgm makes me thinks of the lowest energy level of an electron. Like you got general music which is at a certain energy level, then you got synth/chillwaves which is less excited and now you got that as the lowest energy level. It feels great to listen as non disruptive backgroud, you dont have to listen to some melody or whatever. Its just background bass.
My next door neighbour is studying dor a masters degree and im just sitting here rumbling the wholer building listening to mario paint lol. seriously, i never noticed how bassy this track was coming from my really old crt tv back in the day, listening to it again on my pc with decent speakers and a sub, bloody hell, they should use the track to reference test car stereos lol
That bass is just outstanding for a SNES game.
i know right
its just a sine wave LMAO
sounds like Hans Zimmer - Time from inception
effing harmonious sine wave bass is on-point 4ever.
I plugged my SNES straight into my stereo and turned the volume up, the decorations on my walls shook.
Mario: "So, we're gonna paint a little tree right here with some Vandyke brown.."
Mario Ross Presents: The Joy of Painting
*happy little tree
Cad Yellow and my personal favorite, phthalo blue
This is definitely the background music that should be played during Bob Ross painting
Lol
Such monstrous bass from a time when few would have been able to appreciate it, affordable home surround sound systems being over a decade away.
I didn't even know that the spc700 chip inside the SNES could produce such a clean and large bass sound.
+BinaryCounter The SPC700 can do amazing things.
It is literally just a fucking sine wave...
"Sarcasshole" is an oddly fitting name for that comment
@@Sarcasshole Every sound you hear are stacked sine waves. It's the context, i think.
Turn the volume up and wear headphones. It's like some sort of trance brain massage.
Body massage with surround sound cranked. Makes me feel like I'm gonna have a heart attack, but in a good way.
Dude it's so true
the BASS
ASMR
Reminds me of the night life when the world's asleep and you're one of the only few awake
Wow, I can hardly believe this song came from a Super Nintendo game. When I first heard it out of context, I thought it had to be from a much more recent title
Me too!
i thought it was from EarthBound (another snes game)
commenting from 2024 and I can say the same! I thought it was a 2015 game or something
You should check out the Plox OST.
And all of a fucking sudden I remember clearly that sunny day where my father was painting the kitchen and my mother was cleaning. 1997. We had the blow up pool outside. My sister made me hot dogs. Chips and root beer.
Nostalgia.

Sounds like something from earthbound
Shadowrun SNATCHER That is exactly what I pictured reading that story! The music reminds me of Earthbound and the story reminds me of the "Cup of Coffee/Tea" segments.
lol
+NikoProductionz Sounds like a good day.
+BoxMeme II it was indeed...sadly, we grow up. And it can never be the same again. Never ever ever...even when you revisit those places and people...it's like everything just changed so much...
This song makes me think of earthbound
Hirokazu Tanaka composed music for both Earthbound and Mario Paint.
+Lovespokemon500 yeah, makes me think of Andonuts's lab
same, like the song "Deeper into Ness' subconciousness"
Same
Just wait until you hear the OST for the Satellaview BS-X.
I wonder what kind of dreams I'd have if I fell asleep to this.
Maybe floating in Space with flashy precious lights that pulse slowly, Maybe.
Garlic OS probably stealthily escaping an alien ship
try it out!
probably nothing
I just closed my eyes and let myself randomly imagine something.
My brain come up with a world that was made of purely shiny metal or glass, with a small dude that than ran around that pixelates into nothing and returns to normal still going about.

My subwoofer is breathing
my fucking window glasses were shaking I swear
I remember rediscovering this music during the summer of 2011 and throwing it on my iPod to use as nostalgic relaxation music and now THAT period in time is 8 years ago now...why is time so cruel and fast
Need to get the timestone from hobo batman and rewind reality bro

Totally takes me back when my son was very young and we played games together.
🙂
It's like if Ray Lynch or Brian Eno decided to compose Mario Paint music.
うあああ当時の記憶とか蘇ってきて胸が苦しい
Thissong gives me goosebumps. To me this song would be the theme for the universe itself, or space.
man, this song is so moody. really great. I remember taping all the music from this game onto a cassette tape when i was a kid. Listen to it at bedtime, and this track would always relax me and really just knock me out. Great all these years later
In case you still doubted the SNES had the best music
Donkey kong country 2 boiz
Super Metroid as well. Some great tunes on that system.
Megaman X, Super Castlevania IV, Plok, Axelay... the very best of snes
SNES may just be the greatest generation of games. Period.
Super Mario World
Super Mario All-Stars
Super Mario Kart
Mario Paint
Mario is Missing (the 1 redeeming factor in that game)
Yoshi's Island
The Donkey Kong Country trilogy
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Metroid
F-Zero
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time
Street Fighter II: The World Warrior & Street Fighter II: Turbo
Killer Instinct 1
Mortal Kombat 1
Mortal Kombat II
Mortal Kombat 3 & Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
Who else listens to this song to fall asleep to? Love the ambience and earthbound like sounds.
I'm falling asleep to this currently (found it on a playlist) and it's quite relaxing :)
It really does have an Earthbound sound to it.

This song was so trippy back in the day, and it still is! I want to go to sleep to it. So awesome.
Wow. This brings me waaayyyyyyy back. Love it! I'm 9 years old again.

This tune is known as soundscapes. Its bass line and sporadic sound effects are very soothing, allowing you to relax.
This song is so legit.

In 2003/2004 I fell asleep with my SNES on to this music.
I think I did the same
Man. I sure remember this.
Perfect sleep music as well as relaxation too.
I wanna go back...
Listening to this makes me so relaxed and forget about all my problems. Love it.
That was actually my favourite of the 3 background musics in this game, it used to make me feel so serene inside...
Relaxing in my opinion
It isnt really that depressing to me, but it definatly reminds me of a much simpler time in my life. :) I remember listening to this song and filling in colors on the underwater scene. That was alot of fun.

one of the greatest mario tracks is from mario paint yet it creates such amazing atmosphere which would be perfect for an ice level or water level

This is a fantastic ambient song, when i hear this song for the first time i feel so relax. I was 12yo what a great times!
first thing I did when I got into the game was switch to this music. perfect backdrop to hours of doodling
I came here because of James Rolfe's relaxation video from Cinemasscre. I already knew the song before I watched this. Very relaxing.
i'm getting vibe nostalgia for a time i never experienced. this is truly a transcendant soundtrack
