    Eva Burrows AC is an extraordinary female figure of the twentieth century. From life in Nundah, Queensland in a large and loving family, Eva went on to lead one of the world’s largest Christian social welfare organisations, The Salvation Army. After graduating from Brisbane State High School and the University of Queensland, Eva worked throughout the world in pastoral, missionary, training and administrative roles for the Salvation Army. Eva quickly rose through the ranks and in 1986, was appointment the worldwide leader, or the “general” of The Salvation Army. This was an extraordinary accomplishment particularly as she was the youngest ever general appointed and has been one of only two Australians ever appointed to this position. Eva held the position of general until her retirement in 1993. Eva is known for her very capable leadership, her compassion and kindness, intelligence and wit.
