CPC survivor here. He is absolutely right about diagnosing other issues. Most mechanics plug their laptops and see a bunch of CPC codes and are quick to say it's the CPC which is what happened in my case. Turns out all the codes that I had were being set off by sensors on the same wiring harness. This was before the back order issue so I went through 2 CPC's till we figured that out. Have your mechanics try out your supposed bad CPC on another Cascadia before anything.
First thing you do when diag a cpc issue you should connect to truck and if you cannot connect to cpc you should check diagnostics 9 pin connector for battery voltage and ground if that checks out then check 1939 + which should be 2.6v and 1939 - which should be 2.3 if that checks out then remove the negative battery cable and set multi meter to resistance and test 1939 + and 1939 - resistance value should be 60 ohms . If that checks out check for power ground and signal at cpc and then remove the battery negative and check 1939 wires for resistance 60 ohms . J1939 250k system has green and yellow 1939 wires . J1939 500k system wires are white with green strip and white with yellow strip

The problem is probably in, or rather under, the big square chip. That is what we call a "ball grid array" package. It has no leads, but underneath is a square matrix of gold pads, each with a tiny ball of solder, located over a matching array of pads that connect it to the PCB. The chip is soldered in place in an oven, which melts all of the solder balls at once (at the same time as all the other solder joints on the board). Unfortunately, after a few years of vibration some of those ball connections can crack, and because they are under the chip, you cannot inspect them or rework them without special equipment. These boards can be inspected by X-Ray, which reveals any broken connections. A very well equipped shop will have an X-Ray machine, and further equipment to remove and replace the chip, but we are talking about a capital investment well over $100k, so your local garage repair ship won't have it.
You're right. I took mine too an electronic repair shop and the guy said everything you just said. He also said everything tested good and if anything its gonna be that big chip but he also said alot of times they cannot be fixed. Do you think he said that because he doesnt have the right equipment
@@larrymendoza759 Almost certainly, yes. I have a couple of ECMs here in my shop and I don't have the equipment to fix them or even diagnose them. That chip has an incredible 416 connection pads underneath it in a square matrix. Two things I might try - either work the chip over with a hot air gun to remelt the solder balls, or else strip the battery and meltable plastic connectors off the board and send it through the reflow oven. Either may well write it off permanently.

First thing I was wondering was if that battery on the board was still good. Did you happen to check it with a voltmeter? If it's bad, it couldn't hurt to replace it. Doubt if it would fix it but I've heard of weirder things being the problem. Also check the solder joints coming from the board to the connectors. Surface mount electronics are replaceable and can be diagnosed and repaired/replaced- you need hot air soldering/reflow equipment, but it's not something that anyone can do, requires specific techniques and knowledge. Sometimes it's relatively easy though, like the "ring of death" on the Xbox 360's. Their surface mount chips would become loose after enough thermal cycles and they could be fixed by simply heating the board enough to re-melt the solder and make the connections good again. But you have to be careful, use just enough heat to melt the solder but not too much where you damage the chips. If those boards are bad, you don't have much to loose by asking an electronics friend to "reflow the chips" and see if it fixes it. If you want to try an even simpler technique, you could try putting the whole board in an oven at 500 degrees for a half hour or so. I'm not kidding. Of course first you're going to need to take it out of its plastic enclosure box, take any of the plastic connectors off, take the battery off (it will explode at those temps) and set it on something like a cookie sheet. Let it "cook" for a half hour at that temp, then turn the oven off, but DON'T take it out or even touch/jiggle it while it's hot, let the oven cool down all the way before you take it out again. Worst that could happen is it still won't work. Of course that lacquer coating on the board might start smoking and even catch fire, keep an eye on it and abort the mission if it looks like it's going to catch fire. Look at it this way- If it doesn't work, you wasted an hour of time. If it DOES work, you saved thousands of dollars and will be a hero!

First and foremost make sure you don't have a simple fuel or air filter that got clogged. Even if it was just a month ago changed. Next easy common failure for power on Cascadia/DD15 is the Delta P Sensor. Takes 15 mins to change. After do a Fuel Pressure (Bar) Test and Cylinder Compression Test. Check your tanks and fuel filters for metal shavings. Could be also a fuel pump starting to fail.
I have a brand new cpc4 I'm willing to sell. mine went out 10 months ago and i got on the waitlist at the dealership in Northern CA for one right away, I ended up getting a used one when I couldn't wait anymore. Then the dealership called me for my new one this fall. I bought it as a backup since you can't get these, but I could use the cash instead now. it was ordered to match the vin for a 2016 Cascadia automatic.
There’s a guy in Irving TX who claims he can fix it Please don’t fall that scam me and an other 4 truckers sent our cpc 4 for repairs it came back and still not working just lost money all of us we are in MN we going to court to stop this scam please don’t try to repair it just wait new one for ayear
Fixing an ECU isn't always difficult. It's not a consumable part, that's just sheer ignorance. It depends on what is broken. That said, I know nothing about your TX scammer. But did you test your 'broken' CPC4 unit on a working Freightliner with a direct swap out to ensure it wasn't a harness issue on your truck?
Since Freightliner can't/won't be able to provide replacement cpc4's in a timely manner it's a shame someone with the know how couldn't offer generic replacement units. Even if they outsourced them to Asia. The scarcity and thievery of these things is scary especially since there's no VIN tied to them so thieves can steal with impunity. If people could buy aftermarket units the high value for theft would greatly be reduced. I wonder how complex they really are that a computer for some another device say a game or a phone couldn't be repurposed to do a cpc4's job. Any computer experts out there wanting to make a boatload of money? Get on this please. Tnx.
Fransisco or anyone else know if the truck is deleted does that delete program stay specifically within the cpc? If so aren't all of us who are deleted F'ed when this happens? Even if we could find one?
hi I'm trying to rewire my cpc after get stolen and i done with all wires except one i dont know go where or which pin....wire code is 439N 1512 so please if you can let me know this wire go to which pin..thanks
my recomendation, if you can. check a truck with a similar year to get the pinout of the harness. the blue plug is most accesories. the gray, white and brown are communication and power, most configurations have the same wiring but it must be a similar year.
My truck is down because the cpc went bad… And I can’t find one nowhere… I don’t know why they would put something like that in a truck… Just STUPID!!!!!
Why were you setting? How much many did you lose in 6 months. Why don't you buy a used one for 3000 if google it you will see many for sale in your area
Some things bigger than us is going on. Why all over sudden this Parts are failing. It’s almost like they’re doing it for purpose. Electronic warfare maybe? Idk but something isn’t right.
all I know is that battery is 3v battery from there im lost wha I know know is a software update can fix it but only dealer has access to it even buy-in a new cpc is like buying a dead brain someone has to program it I have a truck that the cpc wakes up whenever she likes and the codes are a failure device if you have one for sell and match the last numbers with mine ill buy it 🤠

How much do it cost
Were can u find it in your truck
In the dash usually. the new cascadia are located in the passenger side.
@@Tyronetrinity thks

I already replaced it , one of my local mechanics put a used one so far it’s been working good , just need to reprogram it
cpc4 cpu reflow=easy repair. Most any computer hardware repair tech can reflow those no problem. Compared to gpus/cpu reflows that's a no brainer.
Thanks Amaya good to know very interesting
We do repair CPC4 modules. AVI Electronics.
Avi Electronics Corp fixed my CPC Module. I would highly recommend them.
@@rayperez4246 Thank you.
What’s the cost to repair? I have two of them
@@arturaugustynek670 Now the price is $2500, rush-$3500. We have a lot of orders so the regular repair will take 10 business days

Yea got me too
Bro you know some good place I do have a same problem in my truck
Did they have warranty?
Fixing an ECU isn't always difficult. It's not a consumable part, that's just sheer ignorance. It depends on what is broken. That said, I know nothing about your TX scammer. But did you test your 'broken' CPC4 unit on a working Freightliner with a direct swap out to ensure it wasn't a harness issue on your truck?
Yup they got me also
Thank you
After getting my replaced cpc I put it in and still nothing dies it have to be reprogrammed
check your fault codes first to understand the failure
The new has to be programmed by a freightliner dealership 2 hrs worth of labor. I’m running great now.
Been down for a month cpc went out. Any recommendations?
Hey Larryd, check out circuitboardmedics.com/freightliner-cascadia-cpc4-module-repair/
Tnx.
I work at Frieghtliner and a lot of times it’s not the cpc that failed
The Purge is Real…a wise said he never got ahead in Lyfe by playing by the rules
Fransisco or anyone else know if the truck is deleted does that delete program stay specifically within the cpc? If so aren't all of us who are deleted F'ed when this happens? Even if we could find one?
yes you should be fine I've done it before and everything was working just fine.
I own car and Computer Electric and I fix them for half the price of others. I've fixed many of them
are you sure where is your location
hi I'm trying to rewire my cpc after get stolen and i done with all wires except one i dont know go where or which pin....wire code is 439N 1512 so please if you can let me know this wire go to which pin..thanks
my recomendation, if you can. check a truck with a similar year to get the pinout of the harness. the blue plug is most accesories. the gray, white and brown are communication and power, most configurations have the same wiring but it must be a similar year.
Send me your last six to your vin and I’ll get you the correct pin outs
It is fixable. There is an electronics guy in Florida that fixed one for a friend of mine

this shit is fixible. hot air station needed or small butane torch ... the problems with these cpx4 are bad solderings of main processor.
