    At 3:00 you destroy the LED, then desolder the 4 leads separately. I think it would be better to use a solder sucker on the PC side, remove all the solder, then just pull straight out.

    You could use some solder wick on the back of the LED to get rid of the solder rather than destroying it and risking getting plastic in any keys.

    A couple hints: There is no mention about how to tell if the pinout is the same, and there are no marks on the pin however one pin is longer. I took the new LED and pressed it against the back of an old LED to figure out if I had it right. THe color (should not be white) will match the other leds if you have all set to the same color and the pins are correct. If you have it wrong you'll see a different color.
    The other thing: Mine just didn't work, and my experiment ended up making other lights go out. I think I broke the traces on the board, which are sandwiched in the middle of the keyboard. I think when I was hitting the keyboard part of the light went out. That probably broke a trace. If the traces are broken, you're SOL.

    • @Pendleton115
      @Pendleton115  2 года назад +2

      You can run jumper wires from other LED’s in the keyboard in order to repair broken traces, depending on which traces are damaged you may lose the individual addressability.

    • @Pendleton115
      @Pendleton115  4 года назад

      john panek There was someone else in this comment section that tried something similar, he hooked up LED’s to the pre existing holes, but they didn’t light up, I think the best you can do is run them in parallel from an LED next door, but you won’t have any individual software control on them, also there isn’t much of a point doing this as the key caps aren’t transparent, so you’d need to swap the key caps around with a BlackWidow v2.

  • @vengefulancient

    Sorry if this has already been asked, RUclips comment system is a PITA to go through: is there any particular reason you had to destroy the LED's plastic casing, instead of simply heating up the solder joints with the soldering iron, and then pulling the now-desoldered LED out by the casing? Apologies if this is a silly question, I'm far from an expert on soldering. Great video, by the way, much appreciated.
