How to 3DMM Like a Champ (3,000 Subs)

- For my 3,000 subscriber Milestone, I'm teaching you how to make your own animations using a program that makes Source Filmmaker look like rubbish! It's 3D Movie Maker!
For those who are new here, the joke is that if you've seen my other 3DMM videos you can see I'm clearly not good at making stuff in 3D Movie Maker so I'm obviously not the right person to tell people how to use it. I guess the moral here is when making a joke tutorial, it's probably a good idea to make a script first.
Here's a few actual tips:
If you're using v3DMM, you may notice the midi import is broken, to get around this type *.mid into the file text box and press enter. Your midi files should now show up.
To add extra frames without having to move anything, hold control and click the next frame button.
If you want to upload your movie somewhere (like RUclips), you'll need to record it since 3DMM can't export your movies to any video formats. All you'll need for this is a screen capture program like OBS. Also, 3DMM uses a low frame rate (6 FPS apparently, 6.6 on XP), so you don't really need to worry about the FPS you record at.
If you just want to watch the 3mm/vmm file, you can simply open it in 3DMM/v3DMM and click play. Keep in mind that v3DMM will store all active mods in the save file. This even includes the stuff you didn't use, so keep that in mind when it comes to the file size.
If you're not on Windows and you want to install and play 3DMM, you might need a VM program like VMWare (XP should be fine for the guest OS) or an emulator like PCem if really want the Windows 95/98 experience for some reason. Also, now that 3DMM is open source, there's now a source port project called 3DMMForever. Currently it's only playable on Windows, but Linux and Mac support is one of the goals.
If you have 3DMM and v3DMM installed in Program Files (x86), then you'll need to manually add addons yourself to avoid Windows from automatically removing them. Alternatively, you could also try starting v3DMM as an admin and going to File and clicking Add expansion(s).
For advice on more advanced stuff like making your own mods and making a model compatible with 3DMM, you'll have better luck searching 3dmm.com for help as I'm not a modder.

explosions are the key part of a 3dmm experience. If you don't have it in your movie the peace is not in order.

Good news! 3DMM still works on Windows 10. The link in the description for the mods and tools also has a modern installer thing if you need it.

You dont even need to select a specific object to play a sound unless you gonna copy it a bunch of times then the sound you gave it will also play
How do you upload 3dmm movies to RUclips? I don't think the file type is supported..
You'll need a screen capture program to record your movie. I recommend OBS as it's free and pretty good at recording old games.

I'm guessing you mean in the theatre. That feature doesn't work in v3DMM so the only way to watch movies is in the editor.
Great Tutorial But There Is One Question I Have How Do You Move 2 Actors At Once I See it In Some Of Your Videos And Other Videos Can Someone Answer This?
Once you've moved one of the actors, go back on the timeline and move the other actor. The first actor should still do whatever you set him/her to do.

What I don't get is what you're doing to actually advance the frames. I have no problem setting up a scene and assigning actions to actors, but I don't know what to do to actually make these animations play/advance the frames.
When you've selected an action it should automatically switch to the animation tool (the filmstrip button in the actors tab). To animate, move your cursor over the actor/prop then click and hold down your mouse button. As for advancing frames, while I used the idle action in this video, you can also click the next frame button while holding ctrl.

Damn, how to delete actor or prop? I'm forgot how do this.
Click the cut and paste menu (the button with the glue and scissors at the bottom) and choose the button with image of a crossed out head. That's the delete actor/prop button.

how do i sync the actors running?
Animate one of them, then go back on the timeline and animate the other actor. The first actor you animated should move as you animate the second one.

For some reason 3dMM isnt accepting my WAV files what files did you use? (and im using WAV files for speech not music)
That's odd, the sound effect and voice pages shouldn't have any problems with importing wav (the music page only imports midis). If there's nothing wrong with the file itself, I guess you could try Py-Q. You can find it on that 3DMM fan site I've got linked in the description.
@@mrnutt I'm having the same problem with my wav files. I downloaded Py-Q and HighQ. What do I do with Py-Q? How do I get it to work with 3DMM? I'm trying to import my own audio for speech but it gives me an error message when I try to import wav files.
@@rachidchatti To use Py-Q, drag and drop the wav you want converted onto the Py-Q exe file then import the 3mm file it makes with the sound effects menu.
@@mrnutt I keep trying to drop the wav file onto the Py-Q exe file but nothing happens. It just drops the wav file on top of the Py-Q exe file without converting anything. I'm doing this on a Mac if that makes a difference

3D Movie Maker doesn't come with any video export options, unfortunately. The best you can do is record your movie with something like OBS or XSplit.

You can't export films as mp4 files (or any video format really). The best you can do is use a screen capture program like OBS to record your film.

SuperLenny1975 The best I can really say is squishing, stretching and resizing the shapes while making sure they're red. For anything more advanced than that, you'll have to look on 3dmm.com for advice.
how do you convert .nmm to .avi?
I'm assuming that's the Nickelodeon Movie Maker file. The thing is, you can't convert any type of 3D Movie Maker file. If you want a video file, you'll need a screen recording program. You could use the recording feature in OBS if you need a free program.

Why don't my Midi appear on the select screen?
This may sound like a silly question, but where you trying to import it from the music menu? Because the sounds menu only imports wav files (kind of like how the music menu only works with MIDI files). Also, are you using v3DMM? Because for some reason that can't directly import MIDI files. A way I get around this is to load up standard 3DMM, import several MIDI files (there's no real limit to this), save the movie and then select that movie file when trying to import music in v3DMM. At that point it'll ask you to pick a file to import so you'll have to do that until you've got each MIDI you wanted.
Thanks, and I have another question. Let's say I put an explosion and a sound at the right frame and the sound too. The sound, instead of playing at the right frame, it plays at a wrong one. Why does this happen?
That's odd. The sound should start on the exact frame you placed it in. If there's a slight delay to the sound itself, I suppose you could try experimenting with placing it a few frames before it until you get it in sync.

if you have v3dmm installed open it and put in all the expansions you have or want in game and launch it through that. It should work because it worked for me.
