    We had a well drilled in 2012 and the cost was $7/foot. That included 5" casing to bottom and pea gravel backfill top to bottom. Hit water @ 70' but went to 135' for extra draw down capacity. Pump, pipe, pressure tank, and all the other accessories were extra of course, but I was able to pour a concrete pad and install the pump myself. Hook up to tank and plumbing to house was not difficult, and the electrical part is easy enough. Hang in there, you'll get it!

      $7 a foot is way cheap. I was expecting to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $25-$35 per foot.

      German resident here: It cost you about 1000$ to dig a well and get clean ground water for your house?
      It's unbelievable! Our drilled well for the heat pump cost us 70.000$ and it's only 25m deep

    When moving to a new area, it is always worth interviewing all of the prominent well drillers in the area. They know where all the wells are, how deep and how much they are producing and more importantly, they know where all the dry holes are that have been drilled. Sometimes you may avoid buying a lot in an area where you might be very unlikely to get a reliable source of water, or at least you go into it knowing you will have to haul water forever and instead of sinking money into dry holes you put your money into a system to haul and store water instead. For places that get cold, a buried cistern is a very good thing and you could have fitted a big one in the hole that you dug.... Site your cistern with some thought for running underground lines to the house and any stock watering you need, that way your winters will be more trouble free.

    my old property had two wells and they were like 180 and 200 and they were on the highest part of the property but they produced very well and we had lots of water.

    • @BelindaTN
      @BelindaTN 8 лет назад +1

      This was my thought. Our well is almost 200 ft deep and on the highest part of our property. Typically you don't want drinking water from the lowest point, where everything drains toward it. Sometimes it is just more cost effective to hire the pros from the start. Some things are just not DIY type jobs. Maybe the well witcher was just having an off day. Or maybe distracted from the filming and talking. I would think that well witching would need a lot of focus an concentration.

    I Sooo wanted to believe right along with you.. I looked online for a gov map/table of approx water depth in the valley and it is 400 ft.. Our property is ~500 ft UP from that.!!. We may still give it a try if we can find someone to come take a look and give an honest opinion about our chances.. Good luck and I'll keep watching..

    Best water veins arent always in low lying areas. I can hit water 18 feet down anywhere on my farm but the best vein is actually on highest part of the place

    You need to find spring or go as down and low on your property as you can only there is your chance to find water at 18 to 20 feet by the looks of your soul

    "Baptist Well Drilling" is a technique developed by a Baptist missionary to facilitate well drilling on a budget.
    However, I'm not sure how well it will work in your area as you may have some pretty big, solid rocks down there.

    • @RedPoppyRanch
      @RedPoppyRanch  8 лет назад +1

      We know its some where down there because others close by hit it at around 100'. I was hoping there was a spring I hadn't seen as most of these lots have springs on them.

    Pound a sand point down that's how I find my water, that will give you a start. My sand point is down about 22 feet. If you need more GPM at lest you know where the water is and how deep, then dig with excavator drop in casing and pump and then backfill. A cheep Quick way to hookup to water.

  • @anthonysinclair5721
    @anthonysinclair5721 8 лет назад +1

    Man that's disappointing , I just had a 185 foot well put in and paid all the big costs too but it worked out "well" : ) I wanted to put it in a certain place but the well guy by looking at the land formation (no witching) said the best spot was about 150 feet from where I wanted it (more trenching , more wire etc.) good result though. Maybe don't put stumps in the old hole yet in case the well guy wants to drill in the same spot?!?! Hope it works out : )

    Is it possible that this is due to the on-going drought conditions in the west? Is that even a factor? You did find moist soil and rocks...is it possible the water table is just lower?

    • @RedPoppyRanch
      @RedPoppyRanch  8 лет назад

      Sure but I know it's down there. I hoped I could find it during the drought. The table must be lower.

    My uncle put down a bore..without using a drilling rig. He used 6ft lengths of 2" galvanized pipe. You'll know the stuff. He flattened the first pipe to a point. Drilled holes around the pointed end. Then used a fence post driver (rammer) that fits on the back of a tractor and hammered the pipe into the ground, put a thread on the end...added the next length and 10 lengths later....hit water. But then he kept going for another 4 lengths and hit the pure mineral water. Don't use a drilling rig...those pricks will only take you to water and stop. Where we live the pipe comes in 5 meter lengths @$90 per...you probably get it cheaper in the US.. How much to hire a fence post driver rammer for a day? ruclips.net/video/YcMBe_Pb3yM/видео.html

      Oh and...talk to your neighbours who have gone down and check which way aqauafer runs and what type of water they're getting. Do you have a water tank collecting off the roof of the house?

  • @4460cows
    @4460cows 8 лет назад +2

    At what depth do any of your neighbors have wells at? Water witching is like playing the lottery. We found no water at 100 feet but ran out of money by the "professional" well diggers or drillers they may call themselves. It is a crap shoot. Some productive wells for years out here have dried up. Gotta go deeper man.

    Really been enjoying your channel, but man you're scaring me to death climbing in that hole. Your spoil pile is real close to your edge and you're down plenty far enough to have a trench wall cave in. Please be safe if you do this again. You aren't any good to your family if you're in a cave in, buddy.

    • @RedPoppyRanch
      @RedPoppyRanch  8 лет назад

      Copy that. The soil is clay for the most part so I took that into consideration but still I knew I was walking a thin line. I've known a few guys from the old days that had cave ins and I didn't want to join the club. Thanks!
