I know its 6yrs ago But definitely a Oil Lifter not pushing oil to Rocker Arms an Pushrod change out the back 2 Oil lifters Sjould solve that issue Ive had 6 trucks come in with that issue Good luck
The best thing that you can do with a 6.4 is totally delete it. EGR and DPF. If you want it to run for a good long time, just do it. Change the oil and fuel filters regularly and check the rockers around 100k. Mine has never been thru a regen cycle and has 290k. Thousand, not kilometers!
Ok where did you get your tunes or did they just load a file in it thats the problem they probably put a Hot tune and damaged your engine it happen to a customer couple years ago and they just flashed his pcm with a tune and throw a Rod out the block.
today while driving mine started this same thing other then you only hear that noise around 1800 rpms can this be the same problem? I figured it will do it nomad terms what the rpm
Hi i just took my 2008 Ford F-250 6.4l into ford on MAY-11th 2016 cause i have the same problem its knocks and you are right its #8 cylinder piston wrist pin . And its not the rocker arm because i just change mine out and the noise where still there. they shut #8 injector off and the noise went away almost you only hear it a lil bit but when they turn #8 back on it start doing at again . im driving mine like this for months it sucks but to fix it they told me $5184 or a short block for $10000
it was the rocker arm assembly that went bad due to a past due oil change lol ended up changing the oil and trading it in for a new car. diesel mechanic wanted to charge 4000 just to pull the cab
Its a rod!! Most likely bent or being hit by the crank weight huge problem. Usually the thrust washers break off of the 3-piece main bearing call him and allow the crank the shift positions. When the crank moves it bends the rods as well as it's the block if you continue to run it I recommend that you find a decent mechanic that can either put a short block in it or rebuild yours if you rebuild yours I recommend a minut amount of machinist Loctite on the main bearings.
I sure wish you found out what that was. Had you given more info, i.e. oil level, coolant level, any smoke from exhaust, etc. Sounds like a broken broken rocker and bent push tube. Would have been nice to see the blow-by as well. It was knocking pretty good! Everything is serious on those 6.4l's. Shop repair for the little things are a couple grand. Amazing how much we have to learn and do ourselves to be able to afford these. But when they are deleted and tuned. Holy chit!
the truck was almost ready for a oil change and the truck was burning coolant on cold starts and would look like it had a blown head gasket before I parked it and had to put the egr delete on. I replaced the coolant and oil same day I took it to the dealership lol. good thing they didn't drive it. they just checked for body damage and said they'll give me 10k for the truck
hey roadside82. thanks for the info but that's sucks man! my first diesel and after 20k miles its does this to me. I def don't have that kind of money lol. hey,so when ford shut off the cyclinder they didn't say anything about the injector being fouled out?im hesitant to take it to ford cause how over priced they are. I had one mechanic say it could be the injector that's fouled out. he told me if its the injector then itll have a fuel knock. my diesel mechanic is suppose to come by with the snap-on diagnostic in a day or two after the rain stops. hopefully i can get some footage of the diagnostic reading when he's checking it too.
hey buddy I just took it too my friends shop and he doesn't think it's the wrist pin so there for it could not be I took the truck to 3 different dealer ship and 3 different estimate one said it's the rod the other told me it's the piston wrist pin and my buddy said it's the valves and today I took the valve covers off spray some penetrator oil on the springs or valves and guess what it's quite down 80% so I'm going to spray the crap out of it and seems like it's Cleaning at up ,so now I'm going to soak it and will see if it's improve more but mine sound it just like yours before I sprayed it. and no the injectors are fine they working properly according to the dealer.
+roadside82 awesome. man you had me worried about the wrist pin haha. are you cleaning it with just the valve covers removed? if so ,what did you remove to get to the covers
mikezee did you found out anything because that noise came back on my truck back to the drawing board did you and your mechanic found out what could it be.
@@mwyson4095 usually it’s do from prolong oil changes. They are a super tight tolerance engine and they seem to have been known for tat issue. I’ve built a couple dozen 6.4 trucks and that’s a normal issue with the dpf system nasties the oil quick and cause rocker issues. Number 7 seemed to be more then any other cylinder. Maybe a thing maybe not.
Cesar Polanco lifters and rocker arms worn out. I ended up trading the truck in due to cost of repair. Diesel Mechanic quoted me 5000 just to pull cab off.
MikeZee that’s outrageous and sounds like you don’t have a honest mechanic. I’ve had the cab pulled on mine and they charge a hour labour for getting the cab off. It takes roughly 35-45 mins to have off if they know what they’re doing.
wes combs nah ford makes the cabs for the 1999-2016 simple to take off, it’s all disconnecting plugs and hoses then a couple bolts and you’re in the air, I’ve done it in 2.5 hrs but I can see how people are faster.
Jeremiah Johnson earlier superdutys take a few more minuets but 08 and upare cake I’ve lost count of how many cabs I’ve pulled and I’ll tell you now it all depends on where the truck is from a truck from Texas the cab is going to come off pretty quick a truck from Michigan you’ll be dragging out the welder
With those low miles, nothing should have to be replaced but it's a FORD Diesel. In that case, you have to spend another $4,000+with a mechanic to revamp the DPF, EGR and fluid coolers. Also, a tuner to address the changes with the DPF/EGR and prevent the regeneration mode from ever performing again.
Seth Rutledge not 100% sure but mechanic did a computerized compression test and engine diagnostic scan on it and he said most likely rocker arms have failed. If anything could be pushrods.,lifters or valves
Thanks for the reply. I have heads off, oil pan dropped and transmission pulled. Still can't find a problem with mine. Lots of forum posts discussing this issue and no solid answer for it.
@@evans25676 it knocked because of a stuck injector?!!! I have one in my yard right now knocking similar. Does not change with Rev up and runs like shit

Ryan Jenschke it could be the same problem just not as loose or broken as mine was. The noise mine had started from idle. I ended up trading the vehicle in before I had the chance to fix it.

Probably a bent connecting rod due to hydrolocking by a blown EGR cooler
I had hydrolocking at cold idle and a few k miles later this.
no not yet i was gonna just buy a new set of rocker arms to replace and see if that works. but been busy with work
Hey did you ever get an update
Did you fixed it, what was it?

I took mine to a seasoned mechanic at a Ford dealership. He said it might be a rocker arm. Fingers crossed.

roadside82 did you ever fix your problem and what was it i am having the same issue
any word on what it is I have the same problem...just my luck the 6.4 is the most expensive engine Ford has out
it was the rocker arm assembly that went bad due to a past due oil change lol ended up changing the oil and trading it in for a new car. diesel mechanic wanted to charge 4000 just to pull the cab
This problem is below the turbo, it's the packing of the star manifold, that's the noise and the smoke 💨 no. It's the engine or anything else

Mine had a rattle noise, then boom, went into reduced engine power. Fuck these things man
What did the problem turn out being? I have the same knock with a new engine.

@@JdmMikeTx hey did you ever fix that problem
mikezee did you found out anything because that noise came back on my truck back to the drawing board did you and your mechanic found out what could it be.
Its sounds like a compression skip I would do not just a compression text but a leak down as well
Mine did that and it was a bad rocker arm.
This is what I'm hoping. I have a brand new (10,000mi) engine making this same noise. Hope its not a lifter.

Kenneth Carpenter yes. I traded it in lol
Did you have a tuner installed in it during the video?
No it was completely stock
We're the rocker arms the issue?
Just drive it…it will make clearance

Would it be any ATF oil?

Cesar Polanco lifters and rocker arms worn out. I ended up trading the truck in due to cost of repair. Diesel Mechanic quoted me 5000 just to pull cab off.

Pretty sure the only way to get the cab off in “35 mins” is to just torch everything lol

Sorry to hear about the engine noise! Mine is doing the same.
Was the root cause verified to be the rocker arms?

Seth Rutledge mine did the same thing it ended up being the #2 injector stuck on mine. Replaced it and it’s been good for about 6000 miles so far.

Did that clear up the knock
What was the outcome?
You will need a new engine, my dad just put a 170k rebuild engine in his 6.4, did the exact same thing but much worse, get it to someone ASAP
Linden Alexander already traded it in haha thanks for the heads up though
Ford pumped out these trucks and knowing all that can go wrong.
$$$$ for repairs
Rocker arm. Or a busted lifter. Don't run it too much. It will eat the cam shaft.
It's a bad lifrter
