Excellent video! I play on a 1gig fiber line with an 11-15 ping to my closest server and if I do nothing to remedy these issues you’ve talked about, the game is unplayable for me. Literally. In order to have a good time in this game, I have to use WiFi, NoLagVPN, and my routers geo-filtering and QoS features. I’ve spent the better part of the last week basically earning my network engineering degree to try and figure this out. Unbelievable.
100% if you're on low ping you'll constantly feel behind the high ping players as they can still shoot you directly on their screen even though they are seeing a delayed image. The server is compensating so you feel everything in the past. Like it's rewinding time on your end.
Absolutely nailed it. Thank you very much for addressing this issue. Keep it up. Very like that you explain the technical site or the problem. I hope they will do something about it. I knew something was off when with good ping (connected to same server) responsiveness fluctuated depending on the time of the day and amount of people playing. Even if I have good PC and frames it felt like I was playing on PS3 :D I wish some lead developer could talk about it and explain what and why is it happening and what they can do about it.
@@Dar1usz their marketing is effective. They make people think the game will be better than the big pile of shit it was last year but it will never happen since Activision is rotten to the core. I stopped letting myself get fooled years ago and just play WZ.
Lag compensation is unfortunately not surprising but it is unfortunate, ttk/ttd disparity is actually wild and I've never thought about that aspect but it explains a lot of what I've been experiencing. It sucks that us hard wired players with good connection are actually punished because of players with bad connection. I usually have 5-30ms latency but matches feel so much more inconsistent than the beta :/
This! I would love to see more RUclipsrs discussing how these factors play off each other to make a bad system for the player. The thing is, if Activision were to solve these two issues (especially server issues imo) they would have a phenomenal game which they could still hold onto between their year to year releases
It just sucks because the games aren’t organic anymore. They are manufactured. I like a more random approach. I have noticed that as a 1.3kd the game hasn’t been as ruthless at trying to keep me at that 1.0 kd that the last 2 games did. I usually just level guns and grind camos, then head back to warzone.
Good work, it's unacceptable for this to be a thing. This is a fundamental pillar for any game coming from a Triple-A Studio. These issues come from laziness, corporate greed or mismanagement. Consumers shouldn't be asked to spend their money on a product that won't work properly or gaslit into thinking there isn't an issue.
I’ve only ever had problems with one cod and it was Cold War couldn’t play it online not sure what’s going on with this game tho I usually sit at a 18 ms and now I’m 40 and it has the nerve to go up to 100
Yeah that’s because this franchise community has brain damage . They knew for ages that the franchise had netcode issues but they ignored it to parrot this conspiracy theory.
The thing at 11 minutes about double the no-hit-reg scenarios is NOT expected. This would be expected with packet loss, but not Higher RTT. You eliminated the RTT by firing way before the other person is running, so the delay of the higher RTT has no meaning in this. This would only be caused if information was lost on the way, which is happening fairly often. And the packet loss indicator of CoD is absolutely without function.
The hit box thing is expected. I believe Xclusive did a video on how every character has the same hit box. Where a smaller model means it would be harder to see, they will have the same hit box. As for the servers, great job on the video! As a computer nerd I tried opening wire shark to see what was going on with the network traffic, but apparently their anticheat flags that, cause it just booted me from the game.
someone's already wiresharked it and there's proof of there being packets not fully being received. forgot what the figure was but it was definitely poor.
Yeah the character model doesn't matter, that test he did doesn't prove anything. Some characters will appear skinnier in certain areas and that's why you get a hitmarker when it looks like your off the target you're still hitting the actual player model, just not the skin. If they didn't make it like this every operator would have to be the exact same size in every part of the body. Really no other way to do it.
I also did some testing with some buddies due to the TTK inconsistencies and my findings mostly agree with yours however I find that this game favors high latency players. As in, the player with the higher latency sees the 27% discrepancy you mentioned way less often than the low latency player. Another finding is that Aim Assist tracks the "net model" and not the "client model", If you do some experiments with AA on a low latency player you can see that RAA engages well before the character model meets the shooter's crosshairs.

I’m so glad I didn’t purchase COD this year thanks to GP. Hopefully they fix it soon and for the love please stop disbanding lobbies it runes the communal aspect of the game. No way to tell if you’re getting better if you play a random group every time!!!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Its very informative and explains a lot. Its honestly frustrating that a billion dollar company has such bad servers.
Good video, glad I'm not crazy. Bad enough being an 'average' player-add in this mess and leads to so much frustration. And what you mentioned is just what I've been experiencing.
The best video I've ever seen. You've kept it technical as hell but also i. Layman terms. Great work Man! I really hope COD sees this and works on it so I can reinstall COD BO6.
As an EU player, i can only assume this is much worse in EU/UK, as NA players and streamers don't seem to complain about it as much. But this video sums up my experience with the game. Especially when playing on KBM, the hit detection and time to die issues are much more apparent.
On MnK it's much worse, because the questionable hit detection has even a harder time "detecting" properly, if your aim isn't frame-perfect smooth throughout shooting. And vise versa if you do happen to have a frame-perfect tracking on someone they die SO MUCH quicker than most of your kills, it almost feels like this is the only time where the game actually registers the proper amount of bullets you hit them with on time. In other instances it tends to ignore some bullets, even if they were on target, because of how much movement there is in the game, if your aim isn't perfectly smooth in the initial 5-shot burst. This is also why if someone's running towards you and you start shooting you'll kill them quicker than your average kill. Because there's no smooth tracking necessary and the hit detection doesn't need to account for too much lateral movement.
I've said this for a while, it's terrible on EU servers, lobbies filled with people of massive varying ping and connection quality just makes it a cluster fuck
I'm in Cambodia, and I initially thought my internet connection was the problem. I upgraded to a business package, which significantly improved my speeds. However, I've now noticed the hit registration issues even more clearly because of the better internet. What I'm trying to convey is that the problem isn't solely about our internet; it also involves the tick rate. They really need to make their servers available globally and add more servers.
Thanks for taking the time to do this! I thought I was going crazy 🤪 glad to know I’m not the only one getting shot when the player isn’t even looking at me 🤙🏼
I have got killed around corners more in this cod than any other. I have a great connection with hard wired fiber this video explains a lot. Thank you for this.
Such an interesting video! Now it makes sense why TTD appears to be so much faster than TTK and why my last game tonight was an absolute BALLS lol. Instant sub, love your work :)
I wish some lead network developer could talk about it and explain what and why is it happening and what they can do about it. One thing which bothers me are old gen consoles which do not support higher tik rate and are bottlenecking rest of us. They should separate old gen and next gen + PC to have better servers.
you don't really need to separate them, the server netcode is very much able to change the snapshot rate per client already. but that's not an issue to begin with; it has probably more to do with the consoles running at lower framerates and the client netcode being tied to it. old gens just don't send their inputs as often. how much is that a problem is a different question.
This analysis and data is phenomenal, thank you. Sucks so many are experiencing this like I am, but at least we know we're all going through it a bit when we play. Hope it's something that can get improved.
Every single COD has been terrible in regard to latency, I believe the ping they display on the score board is an absolute load of shit! For Christ sake you can hear people with accents from the other side of the world but some how we have the same latency! BF4 managed to fix this issue and that was in 2013!!!
I knew something was off! I’ve had more issues with this game than any other CoD. Switching to 5ghz helped packet loss too. I could barely play on 2.4ghz. Thank you for putting this effort in and shedding light on this mess. Fingers crossed they’ll improve/fix asap.
I remember in bo4 there was a very similar thing happening. Half the gun fights I would get in the enemy would be shooting out of the side of the barrel while the character model wasn’t even facing you.
Thanks brother for all the work you put in i thought i was going crazy it was driving me nuts! You are right i had a good experience in beta and this is a mess
Thank you for putting this out there. The dsync issue has been the only problem I have had with the game. It seems most games I'm either getting instant unalived. Or I get unalive comms from other players saying "how". I know exactly what they are asking. How did that happen so fast? Or how did they see me? And trust I ain't that good. It's very fun to play. But that is a major problem that begins to wear down the player after a few games. Thanks again for the video TB.
Have been feeling like I have been dying so much faster than when I've been shooting the other. Nice to see a video about it. Would like private servers back or for them to fix this properly
THANK GOD you think this too.. I thought this instantly. The bit where you say about players not looking at you is 10000% what I have. 13:02 is what I have consistantly
The thing about misaligned weapons shooting sideways etc is a fairly common issue and it boils down to the amount of interpolation used on player entities and shots not conforming to said interpolation buffer. This results in shots being fired before the shooter has reached a visual state of where it should be shooting. This gets a ton worse when you start figuring in animation states and all the various trickery they are doing to model skeletons (bending the waiste, spine etc). Like in your example, you can visually see the gun recoil and a shot coming out.. the shot in this case is sent separately to what is being interpolated (i.e it doesn't wait).
As always awesome video. I love your content for honesty and transparency. Just keep up this way, don't sell to COD like the others did. I think you deserve way more subscribers for what you do.
My first Call of Interest haha i see, what you did there.. Really, really good video explaining all weird occurrences, that happen in MP all the time. Thanks! People, who accuse everything on cheating, should watch this video to understand MP gaming problems better.
Hit boxes are always the same size, but a skin maybe bigger or smaller than the hit box, which might be that problem. Obv a skinny girl skin with tight clothes is tiny compared to a burley bloke with body armour etc.
Subscribed. Great piece of work and you have save my sanity. I often have 13-14 latency, I use a cable to a gaming router (with my qos set to prioritise my packages). … yet I have felt these issues so many times. To the point were I am questioning my skill, my settings, my (run a 4090) build. Some games I go in feel super smooth, no issues. Others, I die before they have appeared on my screen, I have shot they 100 times with no hitmarker, to be turned on, to which I blame my aim but subconsciously know I hit them 😩 Basically, if you have a job. You are going to always hit peak times when everyone is on and the game is going to be a sluggish mess
I'm so glad i watched this video. Me and my friends have questioned whether we are playing cheaters or if we were just going nuts. The amount of times I've made the wrong decision because what i see on the screen for a split second later im dead. I have a good PC a 165 HZ monitor and people are eitrher pre fire demons or im seeing stuff that split second too late.
6:45 this isn't an issue. This is actually a solution, every single game with multiple character models their hitbox are bigger so you can have the same hitbox regardless of which skin you're using. This is the case for CS, pretty much all CoDs, etc. The issue is when the visible model is bigger than the hitbox
Perfect discription of what I've felt during the evening in the UK. In HC MOSH Pit if you hold cross hair headshot height and walk/straife looking for headshots you always die before you see the enemy. There speed vs yours are outa sync.
They know the numbers are high that's why NVIDIA Gforce has blocked the game launching they can't handle the load especially coming in from ultimate so blocked it great work dude cheers get subscribed ppl help the guy out.
I’ve noticed if the whole game starts to lag, it’s because there’s ONE PERSON in the game that has over 999 ping on the leaderboard. As soon as they leave, it goes back to normal. They need to stop trying to please everybody with bad connection. Or maybe they can segregate how many resources go to which “brackets” of SBMM. The slower moving lobbies can have slower servers, faster moving lobbies can have faster servers. That way everybody is happy and they can keep “saving” money?
Just yesterday when i commented on bennycentral live that servers sucks and need to be imporved he just disagree with me and said that we complain too much and servers are perfect , glad you made this video and showed my point , will sent this to him next time he tells me servers are perfect
Great work, confirming the madness that is this franchise. They need to move to high tick rate servers. For years, jumping has thrown off hit boxes/caused desync issues. It's been a subconscious abuse point. It's why we saw jump/drop shot metas. It's not poor reactions. I've watched in disbelief as my aim tracks and hit markers stutter out. 120hz servers would be a big help here.
What would be really interesting is a test if all the skins actually have the same hitbox. Sometimes I feel like the Zombie/Electro skins are harder to hit than the normal skins.
You don’t understand how much this validates all of my accusations. I KNEW for a fact something was wrong. Some games I KNOW for a fact I’m hitting my shots, even have the drop on the enemy and I STILL lose the gun fight. And other games I can feel the difference because I’m winning a gun fight I can admit, I know I shouldn’t be winning. I’ve spent an hour or so working up classes for accuracy, speed etc. just to get the upper hand. But it’s a relief to know it’s not all in my head. I play hardwired with 1000/1000 up and down load speeds. My ms rate is typically 2-10 ms. And even with the is 2 ms lobby’s, I suffer the effect of feeling delayed. Or as if my shots aren’t registering. It’s so damn frustrating. And don’t get me started on the SPAWNS! Thanks for doing all the heavy lifting.
Literally spawned in on the map, enemy spawned opposite with his rifle aimed at the sky whilst cocking it and I'm dead instantly despite putting half a dozen shots into him. It's horrific.
I am playing on 120ms+ and the lowest I've seen is 75ms. I died countless times behind covers. Bdw, Did anyone notice, every time the volunteer crosses the crosshair there is no Aim assist?
Its possible that in there attempts to create all these animations and stuff for movement and deaths there overloading the servers slightly. Example of this would be thst when the lobby is full (especially at peak hours) the servers are having to recieve so much info that they cant keep up, furthermore the hitboxs probably have these issues due to them trying to change the way the hit reg works on them (the whole sectioning thing they are using currently). Idk these are just things ive been thinking.
Thank you this video was very informative. I thought it was just me and I was going crazy like when someone isn’t even looking in my direction but I die to them that happens so freaking much to me 5 times every couple games and that’s probably being generous legitimately thought I was going crazy or something
This makes a lot of sense, this explains exactly how the game feels at certain times. I've played in the morning with less people on and it feels perfectly fine, go on after work or in the evening on Sundays/Saturdays, and it feels horrid.
6 Months ago or so, on one of the COD events, they announced that BO6 would have more hit-zones to be able to adjust damage Multipliers. (I think its 17 Zones now as opposed to like 7 or 9 before. Back then I said to a friend of mine that this will generate issues because not even their current netcode could carry damage registration properly and the netcode was always one of the worst among all AAA online shooters. Looks like I was right, this is a nightmare. Glad I did not buy this yet, probably will wait for a sale in like 6 months.
Me and my friends in the UK have always said the game plays much better in the afternoons even going back to COD 4, this video more or less confirms this and I doubt it will get fixed any time soon.
Another thing they do is if there are not enough players in the lobby in your own region you get redirect to a server outside your region far away with 200ms+. Same thing with mw3z & multipayer, uninstalled the game last week.
I knew I wasn’t going crazy. I know everyone says the same bad shit about COD games each year a new one comes out but this one in particular has the worst desync I’ve ever experienced in a COD game. It is slowly but surely making me just not want to play the game
As someone living in the US, I found that playing on Chinese servers actually improved the experience compared to playing on my closest servers. This is the only cod that has felt better on 150+ ping compared to normal 10ms
I'm uk and when I've played on US servers there's a clear ping difference but hit detection is miles better, and sometimes I feel I can just tank bullets
All I wanted to do was camo grin yesterday, but I couldn’t. Every lobby I got into wouldn’t fully render and would almost have a cheater in it every time. If I did get into a “good” game it would take 7 or 8 hit markers to kill someone, which doesn’t math.
Only 2 decades of making pretty much the same game with nearly infinite budgets, and they still. STILL can’t get even the most basic things correct and tight.

So true this explains what is happening to me. I get 7 to 8 sometimes as low as 6 and I get destroyed when I know I was on the money
Any tips on how to tune router settings for a better experience?
so the best solution would be ditching the cable connection in favour of worse, Wifi connection?
@@marcelina6741 It’s some backwards logic, but yes. It makes a pretty big difference!
Another reason not to support cod with money. They need to stop being rewarded with ass servers.
They need to stop being rewarded for developing absolutely terrible games period.
Agreed..
@@R-cv5tv how terrible games are getting more and more sales with every year ( this year again BO6 broken all records )
wheres logic ?
Nothing has changed, the game is garbage.
The game is the best in over a decade,
@@fiend2society nope....its trash
and somehow again garbage game broken all records, you are butthurting minority, sry but facts
This is why SBMM is horrible in cod not only you are being paired against really good people but the desync and hit registration feels really bad
Even if you have good setup the connection will f. u. up. It is like having super car and racing with bad tires.
This! I would love to see more RUclipsrs discussing how these factors play off each other to make a bad system for the player. The thing is, if Activision were to solve these two issues (especially server issues imo) they would have a phenomenal game which they could still hold onto between their year to year releases
Go play hard core mode and get over it, everyone has an Easy Button in HC mode... n00b.
Yup
Good work, it's unacceptable for this to be a thing. This is a fundamental pillar for any game coming from a Triple-A Studio. These issues come from laziness, corporate greed or mismanagement. Consumers shouldn't be asked to spend their money on a product that won't work properly or gaslit into thinking there isn't an issue.
Yet another example of AAA not meaning anything these days...
I love how the community concludes that there's "skill based damage" instead of the servers just being utter garbage.
I’ve only ever had problems with one cod and it was Cold War couldn’t play it online not sure what’s going on with this game tho I usually sit at a 18 ms and now I’m 40 and it has the nerve to go up to 100
Basically, that's Activision's implementation of "skill based damage". Just give the community garbage servers and net code.
I appreciate you guys calling them out on there bs on your platforms we need this and we need change
I’ve never seen lag this bad in a cod game before. Even in zombies the game is nearly unplayable
It was around this bad in mw3 when it released, also during the end of mw2 life cycle, when the packet burst issue became common.
Jgod I thought did that video. I was going to comment exactly that about the hit boxes being same even though operators are different in size
someone's already wiresharked it and there's proof of there being packets not fully being received. forgot what the figure was but it was definitely poor.
@@eyegouger77 now this is very interesting and sounds about right
Its been so bad I have just stuck to playing solo Zombies.
I was losing my marbles when I noticed I die instantly. People shoot me before I’m around a corner. Also my bullets take longer to kill.
Battle(non)sense was my go to source for all things related to networks and gaming. I’m glad to see someone trying to continue in this space. Great vid explained my experience exactly.
Excellent video. Thank you. I rage quit last night because of the difference in ttk. It only started after 9pm for me. Very frustrating!!
@@maverickg3gbls132 they literally took it out this cod there is no ping markers
@@drakebvibing5953 enable it in settings
I knew something was off! I’ve had more issues with this game than any other CoD. Switching to 5ghz helped packet loss too. I could barely play on 2.4ghz. Thank you for putting this effort in and shedding light on this mess. Fingers crossed they’ll improve/fix asap.
I remember in bo4 there was a very similar thing happening. Half the gun fights I would get in the enemy would be shooting out of the side of the barrel while the character model wasn’t even facing you.
Great work Lachlan, that will settle a lot of arguments in my team match play!
Great video. Appreciate your attention to detail and time spent 🤙
Thankyou. In the i noticed this over the week end, this morning ive had a much better experience.
Others, I die before they have appeared on my screen, I have shot they 100 times with no hitmarker, to be turned on, to which I blame my aim but subconsciously know I hit them 😩
Basically, if you have a job.
Flash bang into the wall at 2:19 hit me right in the feels.
Finally someone who notices and says this. Have heard way too little acknowledgement about this from the community and other creators.
MW3 had bad hit reg for a while. It was improved eventually but even at it's worst it was never this bad.
How do you see ping on leaderboard?
@@dairevickersthink you gotta be on pc
@@MouthDrops I am yeah
@@dairevickers oh then idk. I thought pc players were able to see ping on the scoreboard because my buddy who plays on pc can see ping.
Thank you for taking your time and did this analysis good exploration. and I will support you and follow you here 👍👍👍🥳
Just yesterday when i commented on bennycentral live that servers sucks and need to be imporved he just disagree with me and said that we complain too much and servers are perfect , glad you made this video and showed my point , will sent this to him next time he tells me servers are perfect
Thank GOD someone else is addressing this and I am not crazy how off these servers are.
I thought I was going crazy that the beta felt so much smoother. Damn!! You the man
You don’t understand how much this validates all of my accusations.
Really interesting, thanks! Hopefully they see this and get to work!
Literally spawned in on the map, enemy spawned opposite with his rifle aimed at the sky whilst cocking it and I'm dead instantly despite putting half a dozen shots into him. It's horrific.
All the lag comp and desync issues are probably way worse when you factor in SBMM.
I just want to say thanks for being our voice great work!
I am playing on 120ms+ and the lowest I've seen is 75ms. I died countless times behind covers. Bdw, Did anyone notice, every time the volunteer crosses the crosshair there is no Aim assist?
Probably using MnK so it didn’t distort the results
40ms average connection...
Mobile internet..."Hold my beer"
Awesome work. I thought I was going crazy. I just stopped playing this game.
Thanks for your breakdown bro
This makes a lot of sense, this explains exactly how the game feels at certain times. I've played in the morning with less people on and it feels perfectly fine, go on after work or in the evening on Sundays/Saturdays, and it feels horrid.
Great work 👍🏻 everything makes a lot more sense now. I knew I wasn’t crazy lol I knew something was off. Good to know.
This deserves more views man. Makes me wanna dodge this game even more tbh.
Me and my friends in the UK have always said the game plays much better in the afternoons even going back to COD 4, this video more or less confirms this and I doubt it will get fixed any time soon.
This needs more attention their servers feel worse than BF2042 launch servers.....
This is part of probably why I went to MWII during MWIII
Yes, this explains everything. I finally got dark matter but the grind was horrible. Dying by people i couldn't see made me pull my hair out
Another thing they do is if there are not enough players in the lobby in your own region you get redirect to a server outside your region far away with 200ms+.
Last night after 5 pm as u said to benny i had packet burst and juddering server played today and it was fine hit reg and aim was on point
Great work, I was starting to wonder if some players cheating already as we all know that Ricochet anti cheat is flawed.
Great work with this one. Awesome video.
This video is why I’m already done with BO6. I usually stop playing after season 1 but this is a new record.
Thanks for doin’ this man.
