Awesome attitude and your desire to ensure credibility to the sport. Looking forward to watching you race, I find you one of the most exciting to watch. Plus you're Canadian and trained with LPC which I did for a few years with Mark and James. Unfortunately I was hit by a car last year and not able to continue training for my first IM. When Nina Kraft tested positive after winning Kona in 2004, it was a huge inconvenience for Ironman at the time. Made me wonder how many athletes were told to “knock it off” behind the scenes. That being said, I think someone working behind the scenes for Ironman, ITU, UCI, whatever, would’ve come forward by now. None of those people are paid enough to keep secrets that close
Integrity is everything. I raced professionally for 13 years and can say I trusted just about all the athletes I competed against that they weren’t using substances or methods WADA that were banned. Why did I trust them? Because I had a feeling that the fallout would be catastrophic. Colin has been crucified. It is simply not worth cheating.
Unfortunately, I’ve been reading a lot of comments by people that think they know what their talking about. They think many, if not most of the professionals cheat…clearly not realizing it’s not worth the risk. Every single triathlete will have to work or live off of income outside of their professional career earnings after they retire. No one has made $50 million and can do nothing the rest of their lives.
    Reputation and integrity are everything

    • @mattc8831

By the way, I’m also scratching my head at the penalty. I’m pretty sure at one point, if an athlete tested positive for a drug as severe as EPO, previous month’s, if not 1 year’s results were wiped out. I was very shocked to hear the ban begin on the day of the positive test.

No sport without doping. That's the simple and sad truth. BUT organizers - if you don't even try to find dopers, because you think only about your business, the whole sport is getting down - and with it your business. Yes, this anti doping hunt has a long tradition and it will never end. BUT athletes - its time to ACT NOW and to express your clear positions and ideas (like here), because the next doper will be found - and then it will be MUCH HARDER, OR QUITE IMPOSSIBLE to get credibility for you and OUR sport back. It's not about saying some nice right things now, it's about putting pressure on the scene and the organizers. Number ONE who has to act now is the PTO. They are bringing the most money to the sport. Don't dig your own hole, thinking that the old song of glory and superhumanity will hold the spirit of triathlon together. This all can come faster to an end as you think. May the REAL best woman and man win.

Thanks for your thoughts! But, I couldn’t disagree more. What kind of message does it send our youth that you have to take drugs that are illegal, and potentially harmful to your health if not taken properly, to compete? At a high level? Although the testing doesn’t catch many people and is far from perfect, it’s a strong deterrent to doping. Some people who otherwise might won’t cheat just because they’re scared of getting caught. Lastly, those who still decide to dope have to be careful and use less PEDs than they otherwise would in order to avoid testing positive, and hopefully they lose sleep at night knowing they’re a POS fraud who can’t win clean.
