Billy's Nightmare is a fast paced roguelike game set in the nightmares of the pyjamas wearing boy Billy. What kind of attacks should the final boss have?
how about a jumping towards billy and the impact of the landing will cause a shock wave which you will need to roll in order do dodge the shockwave and a another attack which he summons some tentacles on the ground attacking billy maybe shooting some projectiles

Copy the past boss attacks but only one after there attacks also is a weaker version
So you know the type of attack where the boss shoots projectiles in all directions. What if its like that but the bullets go inwards instead of outwards
l think one of the features of this creature boss is to summon enemies in other chapters

I don't think you should spoil anything else about the final boss after this video.
We will show the redesign of his room and some of his attacks, but not how the game ends.
Procedurally animating spider legs is always super satisfying when you get it done right! Great work!

The boss should summon some of the nightmares that morph into random enemies from previous levels.
This idea is also a stretch but a cool concept would be a challenge run after you complete the game. This run would make you complete the whole game with a single life all the way to the boogeyman and if you can reach and defeat him in a single life he would drop a special currency that can be used on exclusive skins. One of these could reference the zelda like character that started this whole project. This could add loads of replayability!
This game looks so freaking cool and I can't wait to pick it up from steam!!

I feel like it's attacks should be based around common fears and the black tentacles it can manifest.
For example: an attack that blinds the player, this will make for a good challenge because of all the lava in arena, or nightmare tentacles that come out of the ground to grab/slap the player

Ideas.
1# Neutral- The Boogieman can use a melee attack using his staff to hit Billy.
2# Neutral- The Boogieman can spin his metal base on the bottom and charge up a ramming attack like the football player, and charge at billy using his legs.
3# Range- Using his staff and dream catcher, The Boogie Man puts them together to create a big laser pretty fast around himself, like the nurse, (Or that follows Billy himself)
4# Range- The Boogieman can use his staff to spin it around the dream catcher, and launch a barrage of Homing Bullets towards Billy, with the same attack pattern as the Jester or Lunch Lady.
5# Special- The Boogieman can deeply laugh with using his dream catcher to bring life to summon even more varieties of the basic enemies in the tutorial, that are stronger and look stronger.
6# Special- The Boogieman has a chance of disappearing into the dark, (Like the Boogieman,) and pulling cheap melee shots on you when reappearing, or reveals himself to shoot Bullets

I can not wait for this to be finished! Ive been waiting for this for so long! Also! As far as attacks go, i would say since he is the boogyman, the cause of all nightmares he should be able to change the playing feild since your deep into his domain, spawning enemies to back him up, creating tile changes like maybe some kind of temporary floor hazard and for physical attacks maybe he could swipe at you with his legs while also spawning spells via his staff, and for a creepy twist though it might be hard to implant, a special attack uniqe to him, maybe his head could flip around similar to the chesher cat from alic and wonder land as the tellegraph for this attack and he could shoot maybe a laser or a to give it an even creeper vibe a large sweeping tentical that launches out and then sweeps at you befor reaturning from his mouth, maybe that attack could be used after he loses 25% of his health each time? Thats just my thoughts but im not much of a game dev xD
Oh! Last randome thought, since this is the very end of the game maybe when he reachers the last bit if his health he could do a scripted event where he realeses a finale spread of attacks, this could br like a last ditch effort attack for the player to avoid and show there true skill so like a finale bullet doging squence, once he uses his attack and it ends, maybe after 30 or 20 seconds he could show a finale animation, maybe as his old sprite where he is exausted and no longer attacks you so you can land the finale shot, xD now that i type that out it sounds kinda like over kill but maybe it will give ya some ideas!

I would maybe make the final boss spawn other enemies at some point because it would make him more unique and give him more of a final boss vibe

He occasionally send Billy into flashbacks of older boss fights but with less health that he has to beat before coming back and fight. A nightmare within a nightmare

Nice Video! I think one of the attacks the Final Boss should have is summoning/creating creepy hands that try to grab at the player or something similar to that. I hope it turns out to be a great game!

I think some kind of interaction with the lava would be very cool. The church could start out with no destroyed floor and the bogeyman could spawn pillars of lava that also destroy the ground tiles. This would make the bossfight harder over time as there would be less space to walk on. Something similar is done in Mario 64 and the final bowser fight, or Hollow Knights final boss that starts to spawn spikes on the floor. It also makes the arena more organic than just an empty canvas, and makes the fight more intertwined with its theme.
Another proven idea are homing attacks to break up the bullet hell parts of the boss by making a few projectiles very dangerous instead of covering the whole screen with them.
Another big point i would like to mention: It would be really nice if you could add colorblindness options to your game. For me and other people with protanopia it is sometimes quite hard to differenciate the red projectiles from the ground (especially if it is brown or green). If you could add an option to replace the bullet sprites with another color like blue instead of red you would help a good chunk of your playerbase. It can be quite frustrating to get hit by a projectile that you literally couldnt see.

@@JonasBromanBest case scenario would be a color slider or something similar. If that is impossible to implement a few color options are very helpful too like red, yellow and blue. And thanks for the great content aswell.
I've been following the devlogs since the start. I'm gonna play the heckleberries outta this game when it comes out. Maybe I'll make my own roguelike someday.

you should make the boogieman a dash attack where it does damage if its in your way and summon minoins of itself with little bit of health.

I've seen a lot of people suggest for him to spawn enemies from the other zones, I actually think that's a bad idea since the enemies basically act the same from one zone to the next, just with some minor difficulty increases.
Yeah I guess. But we're probably gonna let him spawn some nightmare creatures, like in the tutorial.
Hey jonas, remember the guy that said that his son made this game. Add him to the game as an easter egg, it will be really fun to find it.

i have a really good idea so if you can change the difficulty of the game there should be a mode called Torment mode and basically the enemies are faster stronger and have quicker animations. Also there should be an achievement where you beat the game without dying
Edit: i think beating the game gives you a bloodstained billy sprite when playing the game again and beating it without in torment mode without dying gives you golden pyjamas

A jump and smashing attack would look cool with the legs! Maybe he can throw boomerang leg blade projectiles too?

The boss is looking super good, great job with the leg movements.
I think it'd be great if each septer did something different. Like the original staff could great reaching tentacle attacks across the ground, and the dream catcher could manifest objects from earlier levels and toss them at you.
Then you could add some spinning leg attacks or his head could shoot your regular fireballs as an AOE attack.

i was thinking you could have like a mixed nightmare zone with lots of random rooms at the end there could be the dentist the ocean an firey hell and more before you fight the boss

Make him able to somehow attack with those nightmare tentacles/roots. Like maybe they sprout out of the ground and whip at you before going away. Also he should use the tractor-beam he used on the dream catcher in the tutorial.

Congratulations. You've managed to make this boss look terrifying and awesome in the same sprite! I hope you can sort out the boss room as I agree that the lava is quite distracting. Perhaps it could be dream lava with a different colour or look more like cooled down magma.

I just love boogeyman's legs! The animation is so cool! Anyway, i have some suggestions.
For now, the only use for stars are new pajamas, bur what if there was more? Like, you could use them, for example using computer in billys room, to buy new toys that will appear as abilitys in game? Or a quest from tooth fairy to give her some stars to upgrade her shop (each level gives you bigger stock in her shop, more to chose from)

You could have used procedural animations for the boss legs.
How do you mean?
maybe have two categories of attacks...
He could use the staff for targetting the player with homing shots or shot gun cones
while the dreamcatcher could be used to signifie weblike patterns that are more general around the player
combined would make the fight challenging as he has attack patterns but can use combinations of them making him a little unpredictible

I think the stage transitions could be upgraded to something that ties the levels together a little more. For example for the transition from the school to the movie set, Billy could go up on stage in the gym (because schools gyms tend to have stages, at least all of mine did) and some sort of talent show could happen, then the director could come and be a judge for the show and then hold up a sign that has a 0 on it to show that he hated it and then scream at you which pushes you back all the way to the movie set stage. Not sure what to do for the other stage transitions nor how to transition for killing the boss to performing on stage. This also seems like a whole lot of unnecessary work, I just think it would be really cool.

I think one of Boogeyman's attacks will be summoning the little versions of him that will chase the player and can annoy the player a little bit or more. Also, I'm thinking of Boogeyman having the ability of swimming and diving in lava so that the environment will be used effectively lol

What about a baseball attack where he summons a giant projectile and hits it with his staff. The projectile would bounce around the room
the boogieman should shoot out a swarm of projectiles which together form the shape of a dreamcatcher... this way it will seem as if the attack is powered by the dreamcatcher

There should probably be an attack or phase where he turns random tiles of the floor into lava so you have to adapt to a chaning enviromen... i just think its importat that the surrounding area changes as the boos proggreses to bringe a more adaptive playstime and not just cheesing a certain spot in a level wich might make the boos boring after fighting him more then 3 times

Are all the other levels not plagued by the black vines/veins like they are in the school level? The portals rising up looks a bit odd in the other levels given that the vines/veins are no where else in the level.

the final boss should have an energy beam that comes from the dream catcher and if it hits you it will spawn tentacles that will suck health out of you and give it to the final boss

Hey! The game is still in development, but we have been working on a lot of "behind the scenes" stuff and also lots of things we don't want to spoil in the devlogs. We will soon start to add new abilities and outfits, so I will make a devlog about that and ask for suggestions.

Hey so I am working on getting a pc and getting into programming. I wanted to ask you for some suggestions on what pc I can get that works well (in the $1-1.2k range). I want to start creating mobile games then work my way up to pc games when I’m comfortable with my creations. I also want to ask what platforms that you use or can suggest to use. I haven’t done much research into the platforms I can use but I will do that soon. Thank you for your help and I really like how ur game is looking.

jk. For example The Bogeyman can jump, then spin his legs/legs and body for a bit and after that just put them on the ground. When he steps on the ground he should be in a crouching position. This attack isn't very long, but does consistent damage up close. You can even make some sort of projectiles if you don't like the melee style

When i Played the demo the game honestly felt a little bit too easy. Maybe you could up the difficulty and add certain meta progression updates that make the player stronger with each run. Otherwise some skilled players might just finish the game on their first run, making it a really short playthrough.
But maybe that’s just my personal preference
Yeah, getting the difficulty right is pretty challenging. Some people say the game is too easy, some say it's too hard xD
@@JonasBroman Yeah I believe it's really hard especially since not everyone is equally as good in videogames. I guess you'll just have to do a lot of testing
@@amenberk1157 We have an idea that you get Stars from normal bosses, but you have to kill the last boss to get another kind of currency. This way, only the best players can buy the coolets outfits.
