I'd love to see a "How I Do/Did" homeschool younger kiddos. I love your tips & ideas, but would especially enjoy seeing how you did things when they were younger. 💓
I second this. I homeschooled for kindergarten this year which has been a very laid back year. Next year I am expecting my 4th child at the same time I'm starting to homeschool first grade....
This is great! I’ve been homeschooling for awhile...biggest challenge I find is getting chores done and keeping the house tidy. How do you break them down and make sure they get them done well. Hard to figure out how to get them to clean up after themselves but also do chores. Thank you 😊
Oh one more thing sorry! How do you keep the kids motivated to finish the chores and not feel like we just go from chores to school to lunch to the next project etc...do you schedule in breaks? Thanks 😁
This might sound/be ridiculous, but I would really love to hear you talk about how you handle criticism as a homeschooling mother. I don’t have a super supportive crowd around me, however I know in my heart that I need to educate my kids at home. I have a hard time dealing with the backlash, subtle jabs and negativity. I’ve only just started home schooling this past year so maybe my skin will thicken as the years go on, but I am definitely letting it get to me as of now and I hate the pressure it’s putting on me.
I know you didn't ask me but I thought this might help. Homeschooling questions usually fall into 2 camps for me. 1. Some people ask you about homeschooling because they are genuinely interested in homeschooling and don't know where to start. They want assurance and information. To these people I answer that I was scared but it's like riding a bike. You just keep trying everyday, you'll get it. Then I'll usually steer them toward RUclips videos (like Grace and Grit!), or other homeschooling websites I've used. 2. The second camp of people who ask me about homeschooling, do so because they want to share their negative and usually uneducated opinion about homeschooling. I just tell them I am a former teacher (because I am). It's the only thing that shuts them up. The important thing to figure out is what they want. If they truly just want to gather info feel free to help. If they just want to nitpick your choices, be assertive. Why do you homeschool? "Because I can!" "Because God has led me to." "It's a personal choice I've made and it's not up for debate." Then change the subject. Don't let anyone (strangers or family) bully you about it. I'm not saying you're being bullied, I just know that I was....alot....and I wanted to help. If this isn't helpful please let me know and I'll delete it. God bless.
Speaking from experience... you’ll never be good enough for some. At first, I got a lot of negativity from family when we chose to homeschool about 6 years ago. However, I’ve always said “I appreciate your opinion but this is what works for us right now” or something along those lines. Keep doing what is best for your kiddo(s)! At this point, most people have come around. Much love to you ❤️
I sent my mom a bunch of YT videos. You could print out or send an article or two explaining how research proves the success homeschooling can bring. Homeschooling can be tailored to the individual. A teacher might ignore your child in order to help others, but you can focus on your child with loving care.
You’re not alone in feeling this way. I’m a first year homeschooler too and I’ve been dealing with this issue as well. I try to brush off comments or unsolicited advice but it’s hard and it gets to me.
I feel for you. A close family member that has been in education critises all the time. How can you do xyz since you don't know the pedagogy of algebra 1, for example. No answer is good enough.
How do you teach your kiddos to do research? Give instructions and let em go? Research with them? Books, internet? What I am doing is not working the way I envisioned it going. I would love any suggestions and ideas!
I will be starting our first year of homeschooling this summer with a rising 1st grader and a child in pre-K. I heard you say you create a flow for your kids to operate, I would love to hear an example of how you plan that out.
Veteran homeschooler here as well, same amount of years. But, only this past year, did I change my homeschool curriculum and routine to better fit our family and not appease to all of the naysayers in my life. Finally schooling to build relationships and memories with my people, not to prove how smart they will be bc of homeschooling. Thank you for all of the amazing product recommendations to have the homeschool I always wanted!!
Could you do a “things I wish I knew when my kids were younger” or “things I wish I would have done differently when my kids were younger”? I’ve been reading Seasons of a Mother’s Heart by Sally Clarkson and it’s been getting me thinking. My kiddos are 5 and 2 and we start homeschool kindergarten in the fall. So hearing advice from seasoned moms for us with littles is so helpful for me! ☺️
I actually made that video already: ADVICE I WISH I HAD BEEN GIVEN WHEN I STARTED HOMESCHOOLING||HOMESCHOOL ENCOURAGEMENT ruclips.net/video/dNw4HX731YE/видео.html
I would like to know your approach on balancing outside activities such as sports, instruments, co-ops, etc. Are you one that is constantly carpooling kids to activities and the schedule works around that or do you have set school hours instead?
Hi Ashlee, I'm also a veteran homeschooler, although every year it seems like I'm a new beginner. I'm wondering how you get your kids to actually do what they are supposed to do. Such as do you use incentives, rewards, punishment? Please help. Your kids are so well behaved. Mine are not.
I came back to this playlist and the first 4 videos you recorded have blessed my soul. I have a 4th grader next year and added two more bundles of joy to my bunch. I started overthinking about how would I homeschool 3. I also wondered how I would split my time. Your videos gave me so much reassurance. I will save the others for another day as i want to ponder and use what I just learned! Thank you so much!!! I have watched you for 3 years it has been the BIGGEST blessing in my homeschooling journey.🎉❤
I would love to know what your record keeping is like. This is my first year coming to an end with my two kids, 3&4th grade. I have a 3 inch binder that I keep the majority of their loose worksheets in but then we also have workbooks for science and TGATB Language Arts workbooks. Do you keep all of these items? What do you do at the end of each year? Do you have one master binder that you keep correspondence with your district, a tab for each child and Q1-4 or one binder for each child? In NYS our regulations are one of the most strict so it likely may not be the same but I’d love to know how you do your Quarterlies and wrap the school year up. Thank you for sharing with us!
Have you struggled at all with socialization? I had all these plans to go to group playtimes, libraries, etc. Then covid happened. We recently started going to church again which helps somewhat. It is almost like my 5yo and 6yo seem to only know how to play with each other. Playing with other kids is such a challenge right now. I feel like I've focused so much on academia and let socialization go by the wayside. I'm not sure where to start....
I would love to hear more about how you teach them your flow. Meaning, is it written down on paper that they can access or is it just a routine you setup that they have "memorized". I feel like a broken record repeating myself everyday
This is our 13th year homeschooling and good ideas and advice can come at anytime. No matter how new or seasoned you are. I've been watching your for a couple years now and I love your videos.
First year homeschooling mom of 3 here and this series would be invaluable for me! Thank you so much for sharing! Even if we don't adopt the same routines, you always give me a lot to consider and think about.
I know you don’t do a lot of co ops, (we don’t either), but I love your small group for tea time. I would love how you brought about your group and how you organize each of them for the year. Thank you so much for putting this series together! I really have used your knowledge to help in my homeschool journey.
We just started homeschooling last year. I’m not super organized but we flow thru pretty Good. I do have a large white board that I list what we need to accomplish each day. I decided on that by listing how often we need to cover each subject. We homeschool July to the next June and take off when needed. Like you we keep plugging along and don’t plan each week for our lessons. We started TGTB this year and so far we love it! I’m still trying to decide on Math though. It’s not my strong suit! Thanks for your videos. They are very inspiring to this old Nana that homeschools!❤️
I LOVE these videos! We’re in our first year of homeschooling and I love it, but it’s also very overwhelming and scary at times because I’m always questioning myself (Am I doing this right? Am I doing what’s best for them? Am I teaching them enough? What if I don’t know this or that? ) So, these are very helpful videos for me! I always feel very encouraged after watching your videos! ❤️
I used to write out lesson plans for my oldest daughter.. it was very freeing to learn that I could just “Do the next lesson”! Now, our twins are starting kindergarten and it takes so much work off my plate to know I don’t need to write it all out! Time reclaimed! The loop schedule works great for us as we follow the Charlotte Mason method. Thank you for sharing the detail videos! God bless always, Jennifer from Ohio 😊
Love this so much! I end up over planning and trying to cover every detail and it takes away the joy of what I’m doing and the freedom that I have with homeschooling. This is a good reminder to just worry about the week to come the quarter to come. Not the whole year at once.
Love the idea of this new video series! I am a visual person and would benefit from seeing your planning sheets on screen or hold them up or your planner where you have recorded items! Thank you
Great video and new series! Thank you! I would appreciate hearing how you find, pick, prioritize, ect sports and extra curricular activities . My son is getting to the age where we want him to try some things, but I don’t want it to be like we are never able to do family vacations and such because of sports!
I’m so excited about this playlist!! New homeschool mama here and it’s so intimidating to hear people plan out the entire year already!! Glad to know another mama takes it a little bit at a time versus planning the entire year at once. Thanks again for sharing such amazing content 💕
Hi! First thank you so much for doing this series! I am so excited! You mentioned that you do the next lesson the next day. What do you do when the lesson is a very long one or you can just tell its too much to finish? Do you just finish it the next day? Or what if someone is sick for several days; how do you catch them up? Do you do a lesson in each category each and every day? Bible, LA, Reading, Math, Handwriting, and Spelling? Then only two days a week for Science and History? How do you have time to add in any unit studies on a certain topic or a special project or craft that may be separate from the curriculum lessons? I feel like after I get through all of my homeschool items I am left with no time to do fun things or extra things with the kids. Thank you!!
If you have younger kids, it sounds like you may like using a purchased unit study that covers all core subject areas. Some moms plan their own, but I haven’t been that brave!
I had just printed out my own planners for school. I guess I should mix it up for each kids. So when one is doing math u see and the other one needs blocks they are not fighting over who gets blocks or who needs blocks. Blah. Just don't wanna go and create it again in a different order..
Great video! I'm looking forward to the high school part of planning. I have an 8th grader and a 6th grader so I'm watching ALL your videos on older kiddos. 💜
Hi! This will be my 6th year homeschooling but I’ll have a 6th,5th,3rd and k- ( I also have an 19mo old) I’d like to hear more of your flows for each child. I’m struggling with getting it all done and being pulled in every direction... also where do you fit chores/daily habits into the flow? We are successful getting the main subjects done but start strong with history and science and then end up not doing any of it - veteran homeschooler and still need guidance . Thanks!
I'm so excited for this playlist! Thank you so much for doing this! I know I don't live in the same state as you, but I would still really like to see how you keep your homeschooling records. I live in a state where there is zero requirements, but I would like to keep some records and am at a loss on how/where to begin lol.
Thank you for going into so much detail! It is so helpful. We are getting close to the end of our first year and my boys are almost done with most of their curriculum. I would love to know what you do for the rest of the school year when their curriculum is finished and you still have a few weeks before summer break?
Love this series! Love all your videos❤️ what did you have the other kids work on when you were instructing another? Worksheets? Move on down the list of subject to the next on their list? Maybe it could be part of a series though might just be a general question? Thanks for any suggestions in advance ❤️
I am excited about this series! I am currently in our first year of homeschooling. I have a second grader a preschooler and a three-year-old. I am still learning, obviously. I would like to know if you are under an umbrella church to keep a transcript and do you take tests and keep grades and do you keep anything as far as for record-keeping purposes for when they graduate? Thanks for all the info! I found you when I was starting to plan for this first year and have found you very informative and helpful and a blessing.
Whatever you do i will follow you Ashlee. And i don't homeschool.I am not allow to do it in my country.Hi and love from Greece.😍Also a question about how to make kids(7 and 4) sit and do their homeworks. We struggle so much.Thank you
How late is to late to buy curriculum? We are waiting to hear if my kids school will be going mask free or not next year. They won't be making that decision until mid summer. :/ If they are required, then we will be homeschooling. They have done virtual learning this year and it hasn't been the best. :/ (My kiddos are 14 and 11, btw) I would also like to know what you do with subjects that your not proficient in. My math skills are HORRIBLE!
Be sure to decide what curriculum you want to use and when you plan to start schooling. I would allow about a month especially during July or August for shipping and handling time. Some curriculum have free lessons available for download. This could fill in up to three weeks depending on the company. Or you could use something like Easy Peasy All in One Homeschool which is all free online until your curriculum arrives.
@@freelandtr Thank you for the information.. A friend of mine just uses Bob Jones or Abeka but, there are so many choices now, it makes it very overwhelming to choose.
I second deciding now when you want to start and which curriculum you want to use. Even with COVID, I was able to get all of my curriculum pretty quickly. Just remember that you can do more work in some subjects while waiting for your other materials to show up, and then adjust your lessons accordingly once you have all materials.
For math, it sounds like you need curriculum that provides support. We like Math U See, some people love Teaching Textbooks, and I just heard that Shermann (sp?) is really good.
How do you choose where to start with Bible study? I was raised in the church since I was 2, but it’s almost like it was background noise. I want our kids to have a solid biblical foundation at home, as well as at church. I don’t want to be a home that just does church on Sunday, with prayers at the occasional meal and at bedtime😜
I love this series! - I have younger kids, so I’m trying to understand at what age homeschooling can be done more independently? Or am I always sitting with them teaching everything? I just found teaching textbooks and am excited my 7 year old can do that on his own and enjoy. - Also, really curious about sports. I’m considering homeschooling next year to possibly beyond. Are your kids involved with public school sports or other select teams? I’m nervous about my kids feeling confident and fitting in if they play public school sports. Curious how you navigate all of that. Thanks!
How do you know when to choose a new curriculum? My kids all learn differently, but I just adapt my teaching style to them. We have been virtual this year but are homeschooling in the fall☺️ I will be saving all of these videos in this series💛
I already commented once but, I had one more thought. I'm a little worried about my kiddos adjusting. They are 14 and 11, starting highschool and middle school next year. They are use to how a day in public school goes. They have not thrived with virtual learning at home and I'm worried about homeschooling this late in the game even though I feel like it may be our only option with the mask requirements on their district. Any thoughts on this is appreciated!
Hi Ashlee! I’ve been really finding your planning videos SO helpful! Thank you! Question: I’m headed into using TGATB for all subjects for my three kiddies in July, and am working on crunching the numbers to get a school-year calendar lined up for 2022-2023. With TGATB only having 120 lessons for math/LA, how do you work that into your 36 weeks? We have a requirement of 180 days here in California, so I’m stumped at how others make that work with curriculum they doesn’t have 180, or even at least 144 lessons (if schooling 4-days). I may be overthinking this 😂
Hey! So we use other materials that carry us through our 180 days. So if we finish la then we use a different book or activity to cover that subject if i want to. Hope that helps!
@@GraceandGrit okay, this so encourages me! Thank you, Ashlee! Do you have a specific video that touches on those extras or would you kindly point me to some of the things you’ve found to be great add-ons? We’ll have a preschooler (which I’m not worried about adding things on her lessons), a 1st grader (level k) and a 5th grader (level 4). Thanks for all you do sharing your homeschool journey!
@@GraceandGrit been listening this morning to your last end of the year curriculum review and found that you used Wordly Wise and the Creative Writing sprinkled in and used at the end to draw out the LA lessons!
How would you make this work with a toddler and newborn? I homeschool my 8 and 6 year old, but I have a 2 year old and a baby due in December. Trying to figure out how to keep my little "distraction" occupied so my 8 & 6 year old have my attention
Love your videos. I’m homeschooling my daughter for high school, and our state requires a full year of American History. It doesn’t look like The Good and The Beautiful has that as an option. Is that correct?
Your confident, fierce and your game face is on-and I love this, but in quiet moments does it hit you huge that Mamas everywhere are being empowered and growing increasingly confident by your effort in getting this knowledge out and by that your keeping kids out of a indoctrinated system bc moms are not giving up and for the first time maybe being introduced to Christian curriculum bc you inspire them with your family... And your coming up with ways to get the answers faster, easier. God is working double time thru you-and dang your on a roll. Don't minimize this-just saying. 🇺🇸😜💯'Merica
Hello Miss Ashlee. I am a mother of 7, ages ranging from 15 to 3. I pulled my 3 oldest out of the public school system about 4 years ago. I have been trying and failing at homeschooling them. My kids have no desire to homeschool or return to a classroom setting. They have fought me every step of the way and are falling way behind academically. I was wondering if you have any advice for moms in my situation. I’d actually appreciate some input from your kids- what they think about homeschooling. Maybe if my kids heard something from other successful homeschooled kids, they might come around a bit. Please pray for me.
@@GraceandGrit oh, lol that’s funny. When I clicked on the playlist it showed like eight videos with a blank cover photo and it said cannot view video 🤷🏽♀️🤣
I’d love to see “How We Store/Organize each child’s curriculum and supplies”
Would love to see:
-How you do assigned readers (time frame, expectations, how often etc!)
-How you teach life skills in homeschool!
Life skills, yes!
I would love to see a video on how you teach chores and other life skills!
Can’t remember if you’ve showed each of the flow list for each child or not...but I’d like to see those!

So excited about this video series! Thanks for doing this! ❤️
Loving these videos!! Thank you for taking the time to make these. 😊
It’s been 6 years of homeschooling for us but I’m still excited for this series lol can always learn new things!
Excited about this series, definitely a mama I want to learn from
You may have done this not sure, but what’s in each child binder?
Oh my goodness girl! I just gotta say how incredibly cute you look in this video. Love you hair and the hair tie/bow. Thanks for sharing your flow.
So sweet, thankyou!
I will be homeschooling my kindergartener in the fall. Your channel has been a HUGE resource! Looking forward to this series ☺️
Absolutely LOVE this series idea!
Any mommas have suggestions on homeschooling with babies? And homeschooling while pregnant (sick 1st trimester)
Great series!
Thanks!
Love this idea! Your channel was so helpful to me last year when I was starting my first year of homeschooling 💗
I'm so excited for this playlist! Thank you so much for doing this! I know I don't live in the same state as you, but I would still really like to see how you keep your homeschooling records. I live in a state where there is zero requirements, but I would like to keep some records and am at a loss on how/where to begin lol.
So excited for this series! Such a great idea!
Thank you, Ashlee! I love this new series!
Love it and excited for this series!
I love these types of videos thanks for sharing! ❤️
This is so helpful and encouraging! Thank you for sharing your experiences and seasoned advice! 💗
What a GREAT idea!
So grateful for all your videos! :)
Thanks for doing this. I am so thankful.
Thank you for going into so much detail! It is so helpful. We are getting close to the end of our first year and my boys are almost done with most of their curriculum. I would love to know what you do for the rest of the school year when their curriculum is finished and you still have a few weeks before summer break?
Watch my day in the life coming Thursday I go over this exact thibg
Im so excited for this new series
Love this series! Love all your videos❤️ what did you have the other kids work on when you were instructing another? Worksheets? Move on down the list of subject to the next on their list? Maybe it could be part of a series though might just be a general question? Thanks for any suggestions in advance ❤️
Yes, into the next thing in their list!
Love all of this insight!! Thanks for sharing!
Really excited about this series! :)
We struggle so much.Thank you
Excited about this series! 😊
How you socialize them
When you say you start a flow, is it something that is printed out and explained to the kids at the start of the year?
Thank you for this video!
Super good idea.
Awesome Ideas!!!
Which Erin planner do you use? The teacher one or different one?
How late is to late to buy curriculum? We are waiting to hear if my kids school will be going mask free or not next year. They won't be making that decision until mid summer. :/ If they are required, then we will be homeschooling. They have done virtual learning this year and it hasn't been the best. :/ (My kiddos are 14 and 11, btw)
I would also like to know what you do with subjects that your not proficient in.
Look up sally clarkson!
Just start reading the Bible aloud and discussing. I love master books for more book study. Check out answers in genesis ministry.
Thanks!
Yahoo! This is gonna be great!!🙌
How do you know when to choose a new curriculum? My kids all learn differently, but I just adapt my teaching style to them. We have been virtual this year but are homeschooling in the fall☺️ I will be saving all of these videos in this series💛
What is the name of the news channel you guys listen to in morning as part of Bible??
How do you set up a morning basket with older kids? My kids are 15 & 12 (11th and 7th graders).
Watch some of my videos on that topic!
Thank you 😊
Hi.. we love anything homeschool...
Did you change your weekly routine from a 4-day to 5-day school week?
Do you do science and history two days a week each? Or does one get a third day?
How would you make this work with a toddler and newborn? I homeschool my 8 and 6 year old, but I have a 2 year old and a baby due in December. Trying to figure out how to keep my little "distraction" occupied so my 8 & 6 year old have my attention
Love your videos. I’m homeschooling my daughter for high school, and our state requires a full year of American History. It doesn’t look like The Good and The Beautiful has that as an option. Is that correct?
That is correct!
Love. As always ❤️❤️❤️
🇺🇸😜💯'Merica
This comment made me smile so big. Thankyou for your encouragement ❤️😍
Do you do one science lesson per quarter?
One science unit, yea!
How do I start homeschooling? Who do I contact? How do I know I’m doing all the classes/lessons needed?
I would advise starting with the HSLDA website see what the legal requirements are in your state, as they can greatly vary state to state!
I may have missed it in another video, but I would love to know how YOU stay motivated?
Does anyone know why I cannot view any of her videos in this playlist
I haven’t added any other videos! More to come!
@@GraceandGrit oh, lol that’s funny. When I clicked on the playlist it showed like eight videos with a blank cover photo and it said cannot view video 🤷🏽♀️🤣
How do you do SICK DAYS? One kid sick , all kids sick , and mom is sick...
There’s eleventy billion pre-k to mid elementary channels. I’m in desperate need of older student content.
