    For many of us it's a dream to fly with our family. Last week you saw me flying with the kids and today I'm flying with my wife Magda. I always find myself raising my personal minimums any time the family is on board and this flight is no exception. While it was certainly a stable day, the ceilings were right about as low as I would want them for a flight with Magda. Enjoy it! - Jason

    Hats off for flying the pattern and not doing the easy straight-in. If everyone did this, conflicts and mid-airs would would almost disappear.

      Yep appreciated! And as you know, flying the downwind gives you the opportunity to look at the runway and make sure there are no obstructions, wildlife, etc 👍🏻

    Great decision to enter the pattern as you did. My CFI drilled into my brain "There are only two ways to enter the pattern, (1) 45 into the downwind when approaching from that side of the airport, or (2) overfly the field at 500-1000 above TPA and then execute a teardrop turn 45 into the downwind. Always fly left traffic unless right traffic is specified in the chart supplement or on the VFR sectional." Notice that straight-in, left base entry or right base entry are not amongst the two! HA!

    That part of the country is mostly unfamiliar with most people. Having lived there for a few years on St. Simons, I'm glad no one knows about it! For you: Awesome avionics, beautiful airplane, and a beautiful wife! Life is good!

    Wonderful and thanks for the ride-along 😍. It's been thirty years since I had the yoke in my hand and miss it terribly. I was only VFR and finally watching an IFR within a single engine aircraft I was amazed! The instruments and controls made me want to start all over 🙆‍♂️! I've settled with FPV Drone flying at my age now seeing while up in the blue skies 😍

    That ATC controller could have made that 270 request a whole lot easier by giving him a heading…

    • @MzeroAFlightTraining

      Wasn't that crazy!? I felt bad for the pilot because I would have made the same mistake.

      That was an @$$ move by the controller. I find most of them to be very pleasant and helpful most of the time but like everything else there has to be one in every crowd.

    • @mickybobby

      Pretty poor from the controller. Not the kind of situation where you want ambiguity with the heading.

    • @griam7641
      @griam7641 6 месяцев назад

      I disagree. Nothing was ambiguous about the controller issuing a left 270. He never said “turn left heading 270”. All pilots should know the difference. Additionally, while you may think the controller was being a butthead, he was caught surprise by the fact that the pilot did not follow his instructions and was now in a situation where he had to give the pilot an immediate heading to avoid the conflict. Btw, 32 years as a controller and 50 years as a pilot.

    KAPF. My home airport. From May - Nov you can pretty much anticipate what you’re going to get from the tower. . After that it’s be prepared for anything from the tower. Makes it interesting and keeps you sharp. Thanks for the video.

    Great video. Reminds me of the times I took my girl friend (now my wife) on dinner dates and other travels. The newer planes, even the SR20, have so much better avionics and autopilot than my old 1966 Mooney M20C. I really miss flying as my only outlet now is videos like yours and MSFS 2020 simulation. I hope you enjoyed your stay at Jekyll Island.

    I grew up in Fond du Lac. And w called it "EAA". We're never going to call it "Oshkosh". Thats a city for us and is used much more frequently than one week in late July.
    "Are you going to Oshkosh?" is a much more generic question for someone who lives in the area.
    As far as straight ins go i am totally on board with always doing a pattern. But 09J might be an exception.
    When landing 36 KSSI is normally going to be landing 04. And YATGY at 1600 is the FAF for RNAV 4 SSI and that fix is right in the left downwind for 36 at 09J. Given the amount of jet traffic into KSSI, the straight in looks pretty good to me.
    What do you think?

  • @whaaaattthe
    @whaaaattthe 6 месяцев назад

    Just remember that you are in the pattern for SSI while on the downwind for 09J. It is safer if there is no one in the pattern in Jekyll to make a straight in to rwy 36. There are many planes shooting the approach into SSI straight in and there is conflict with the downwind traffic at Jekyll.

    Great video Jason. I have one question. In the video it appears that you announced being cleared of the runway on your rollout before you exited the runway. Was this a timing discrepancy in the voice over editing?

    Can I make a recommendation. Why not setup Microsoft Flight Simulator at home, and before you fly to a strange airport - go in-game and make that "strange" destination airport your home airport, and do some Left/Right Traffic (as permissable) patterns to familiarize yourself with it and the surrounds - thus when you go in real life you will be better prepared? Just a suggestion! Obviously you can also Fly some of the approaches too!
