深い雪に包まれた白川郷、茅葺屋根の佇まいは、懐かしさを感じさせてくれる。

俺は日本人だが、茅葺き屋根の家に住んでいたこともないし、近所にもないから、懐かしさを感じるなんてことはぜんぜんない。君ん家は茅葺き屋根だったのかい？
いいえ、山間部ではあるが、近所には茅葺屋根の家屋はありません。ただ降雪地帯は屋根の傾斜があり、天井は高い作りになってて高床式なんですよ。
それでも今は、こうした家屋は少なくなって、新築された家は現代風の家屋が殆ど軒を連ねています。
私は製材や、植林、間伐の仕事を長年経験しているので、木のぬくもりを肌で感じ取ってきただけに寂しく感じるのかも知れません。
ちなみに私は岐阜県民なので、合掌づくりの家屋は子供のころ連れてってもらったことがありますが、私の言う懐かしさとはそうした記憶からくるものではなく、純粋に日本家屋の持つ、木のぬくもりに対してですね。同じ様な例は馬篭宿や妻籠宿にも言えうでしょうね。
