Wow that soil is black. I need to get some water-flowers too, of any type that blooms. 10/10, you might try putting some photos of your pond into an AI image generator to see if you can find something you have yet to imagine.
If your air compressor has enough flow you should include an airlift-pump(it's just some PVC) so that you can move oxygenated water into that narrow pond section to make it more of a river, especially at night when the plants aren't working but the large-aerobic-bacteria in the pond would use the oxygen. Air lift pumps(just some PVC) are used in deep-sea oil drilling so with enough air you could move a lot of sludge from the bottom to a more accessible place, like above the water-table for dry season.
[water treatment rant]If you look into some of the aerobic OSSF designs for home sewage treatment there are a few companies that actually do use air-lift pumps to move sludge from the bottom of the clarifier-tank/3rd-tank to the beginning of the aeration-tank/2nd-tank. I kinda wish my pump-tank/4th-tank to have had an airlift pump so that I could raise the water level & pump the small amount of sludge back to the 1st-tank.

yeah, I have a lot of thoughts on what I could do, starting with the least expensive. eventually, I will have a filtration with a waterfall. on the back pond wall. The black on the walls is the hardpan soil, I broke through that and now the complete bottom is natural sand. You have to love a natural sandy bottom.

@@TheFrugalHugelGardener We ended up turning our waterfall off b/c it was not cheap to pump water 10ft up off the water-level, same problem with spraying fountains is they use a lot of energy. With an air-lift you wouldn't use hight b/c the lower you install it the more flow it'll have with air you're already need. That soil is quite interesting, I'll have to check the soil web to see why it might have that color in comparison to my area. Check out Goliad Farm, his natural setup is amazing but he uses pumps & not air-diffusers.

I will look into those air-lift pumps to see if I can make a nice one.

@@TheFrugalHugelGardener Our air pump allowed for lots of extra play-air.

I'm thinking that I could make a floating skimmer hooked up to an suspended air-lift held up by foam so the sand does not get sucked in and when the depth changes the flow will not be effected.
