Hello Amber, I am a 1981 California Girl State Alum, African American US Marine Veteran. Thank you for reminding me of the power we all have inside as women. I will be introducing my granddaughter Sarai, a possible 2023 participant to your video and my memories of a great stage in my life. I am so proud of your generation, there are no words to describe you because that is your job to write your own stories. Semper Fi little sister.
Amber, thank you for this great video about your experience at ALA California Girls State. I was the City Mom for Asawa and I also had a great time just being around such an amazing group of girls. I am on my ALA unit Girls State selection panel and I would love to recommend your video to potential delegates. Thank you again Sister!! (- Carrie, CA Girls State 1988).
of course! Glad I could help and I hope to see you there again when I can volunteer! It was so much fun to return as a JC last year! Thank you for your kind words!
i'm not from cali, but i got selected for the NJ girls state: i have general social anxiety, do you think that this is a program that i should enter? i'm pretty much afraid of speaking to people i don't know as well as many different types of social situations
I know it might be a bit late, but I think it’ll be a good opportunity for you and to also be around more people that hopefully you find common interests with. I know social anxiety is a pain in the ass, but try to be a bit more carefree and don’t worry about what might others might think or judge. I hope that if you decide to go, you have a really good invested and joyful time. You deserve it girl!
@@A68-i8y thank you for your advice! i'm hoping to try to combat my social anxiety, which is really severe at the moment. my parents have also called a doctor and i'm hoping to get therapy for it as well. i hope i can make friends even though it's going to be virtual this year
Hiya! I can tell ya. I actually got picked as a delegate this year. In the interview, they basically ask you about yourself: your hobbies, in-school activities, outside of school activities, stuff that you could improve on the CA school system and CA gov, as well as your background (sibs, parents, any family veterans). That kinda stuff. Also make sure to look nice and presentable, posture and eye contact is everything.
Meanwhile at California Boy's State, we had mass-theft of city ordinances, rioting and civil disobedience, and shootouts between police and criminals. Not to mention, on the last day some criminals from out of county ran in and defaced it by drawing, well, dicks, on anything made of paper... Sure as hell made _my_ job a lot more difficult... Almost regretted running for Sheriff. Great video! I was wondering what was similar and different between Boys and Girls State. -Mason Wong, Haley County Sheriff (Ret), 81st Session, California Boy's State

The thing about Girls state is that it's not spicy enough, I mean remember the time the boys decides that succession from the Union is a good idea
haha we had our fun moments for sure, but I am sure nothing as crazy as what happened at Boys State!
I get to go tomorrow and this helped a lot
Can you tell us what they want to see from us during the interview
