I was just thinking of this last night, and while it surely won't happen, I can't help but imagine it:
When the Detroit Tigers left Tiger Stadium in 1999, there was the same talks about what to do with it. In 2001 it hosted a independent professional game to see if having a Frontier League team would fare there. They ultimately didn't go further with that, but perhaps it would work in the Astrodome. The team, luke it was suggested in Detroit, would play at home when the Astros are on the road.
Again, I already know it's a far-out idea, so yo don't have to tell me how unrealistic it is. But I'm interested in hearing from others who would like to imagine this.

It's hard to listen to someone who is so cynical about a building he has never been inside of. It basically put Houston on the international map, as the city was simultaneously leading the mission to the moon.
Although not perfect, as any pioneering structure would inherently be, it is still astonishing to walk inside and experience its fascinating roof structure.
And, it was hand designed by local engineers without the aid of any computers.
Its necessity to be successful resulted in it being constructed with specifications and materials far above normal standards. It would have to painstakingly deconstructed with cranes because implosion would be insufficient enough to implode the roof.
I have personally visited its inside in recent years and it is still in remarkable structural condition.
It will outlast any current thrown-together stadium and, will have a great future ahead, with a little imagination.

I enjoy watching your videos but you got a decent amount of facts wrong in this video. Respectfully, consider doing real research instead of babbling off on your on opinion and making things up. Here are a few corrections for your future reference:
-NRG stadium was not built in 2006.
-There are still seats remaining in the upper deck. They have to stay there, It was included in the no demolition clause when it was placed on the national register of historical places.
    - The floor of the Astrodome is concrete, not dirt.
-The interior is not gutted, the only things that have been removed is the majority of the seats, the field, and the exterior ramps originally built in 1989. Virtually everything else is intact.
-The reason the Astrodome still stands is not because people "don't want to part with it", rather because it is a Texas historical landmark and cannot be torn down.
You also claim that the building is "not doing well at all" yet studies in 2021 show the building is solid as a rock structurally. This is shown on the astrodome conservancy website.

This guy doesnt know his ass from a hole in the ground. If he had it his way, there would be no Fenway Park, no Lambeau Field, no classic cars, etc. The Astrodome is a piece of history, the first of its kind in the world. We will not destroy Stonehenge, the Great Wall of China, and we will not destroy the Houston Astrodome

What an over the top negative take. Houston is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. There is need for many things, schools, hotels etc… With some imagination the dome could easily be repurposed ; gut the seats add hotel rooms, retail, restaurants, the aforementioned botanical garden, satellite campuses for the nearby colleges, maybe even a NASA science academy. It’s centrally located so it would be a great meeting place. One item not mentioned in the video - there is a light rail station across the street so it would be convenient. The narrator keeps on saying that it’s ugly. I don’t see that. It’s iconic and the exterior could be cleaned up and restored to its previous glory.

Yeah, you need to take a look around the area. It's a shit-hole. The Astro-world complex is STILL a vacant dirt and grass lot for a reason. If the area was remotely prime real-estate there would been a build up of the area, including the Astrodome years ago along with everything else in the Houston area. Face it, the transformation of downtown pushed out low income people into areas like where the Astrodome currently sits. No one wants to invest there.

Hey Depressed Ginger Guy! NRG Stadium was built in March 9,2000. Not in 2006.

Been to many Astros games at the Astrodome and man I was always fascinated by it. It’s a Texan thing to never let anything die and I was shocked when they closed AstroWorld right across the street. This video is about 10 minutes too young, how many different adjectives did he need to describe how much he didn’t like it, edit your videos better bro!

if I were a Texas oil billionaire I would buy the joint and turn it into the world's largest gym and smoothie bar. I would put the leg equipment in the upper deck that way you have to walk down, all the way down to leave

If it doesnt cost any money, then leave it. Its historical. Plus it would definitely be helpful during catastrophes such as Hurricanes.

If it was the first of its kind to make history why would you delete it or completely demolish it??? That’s like saying in 40 years let’s demolish and delete the demon 170 from history

Needs to be demolished. It's an eye sore, completely useless next to a better stadium and convention center.
