I had this song on an ancient LP sung by Kirsten Flagstad, but I lost it decades ago. I never thought I would find another as dramatic version, but here it is. I've translated the wonderful Swedish words into (not so wonderful) English and I have subtitled the clip.

Mattila is such a great artist, she gives this wonderful song a real life, a complexity that many interpreters miss.
Wonderful. I have Kattila's Sibelius Song album on CD, and this song is the best track in the album in my humble opinion. It is so nice to see her sing the song with an orchestra accompanying.

I believe that you are referring to the LP by Flagstad made in 1958 with the London S.O. under Øivin Fjelstad. The LP was issued as No. ECS 794. I still have my copy, which I purchased in 1977. I also transferred all the songs from the LP to a CD. If you would like help from another Sibelius-lover please write to me privately at tedwilks@comcast.net.

Yes - the wonderful Nicholas Hawtree of Jericho, Oxford played this to me (I mean the Flagstad) in my salad days! He was from that famous thespian family ; and he helped me out greatly when possession of my Erard became untenable! And I was forced to flee my creditors (as all great composers do, haha! ).The song says all that. But this tempo is a shade fast, very slightly too fast, but even so, the smallest metronome mark too fast - and thus lacks a true sense of occasion - - -
