- My Review for Ivy The Kiwi? for the Wii, developed by Prope (including Yuji Naka, the co-creator behind the original Sonic the Hedgehog), and published by XSEED Games. The game is also available on the Nintendo DS. Overall I found this to be a really charming and addictive little platformer, even if some elements seem a bit familiar I still found myself playing this game nonstop in one of those "just one more level" moods.
At first it didn't look appealing to me, but it actually looks kind of fun after I finished the video.
Hello 10 years later
I've been keeping my eye out for this game for a little while. This review pushed me over the edge. I'm buying it. Thanks, Pete. Keep up the fantastic work!
I completely agree about the soundtrack part, Ivy the Kiwi has some awesome music, especially the music from areas like Sleeping Mountai or Rainy Plains.
I have a feeling this is going to be a rare game in the future worth a decent penny.
TerrariumFusilage1 it is it goes for about $80 average for a complete copy in decent shape so if you want it get it before it becomes panzar dragoon sagas Wii equivalent.
...And you were right!
I love the artwork in this game it looks so unique and different than other platformers. Great review Pete and I hope to see more reviews soon! Also, I can't get enough of the new podcast! Absolutely fantastic!

Hey man, thanks for the review! You hit every topic I was looking for. Very well done!
I loved Canvas Curse and this looks awesome, nice review Pete.
@GamerBaron Yes this is my first video using the new mic, I am glad the audio turned out a lot better.
i love you review pete, because you actually show gameplay for more than 2 seconds before you cut to another gameplay shot.
This was such a well constructed review. Nice job.
I played the demo of this on the ds and really enjoy the dexterity you get with the stylus. I'm not as good with the wii remote, so I plan on getting this for the ds. It's good to see there are still some unique games coming out.
@StephsTooDef If you are worried about control issues I would say go with the DS version, however I did not have much trouble with the Wii controls and I was pretty surprised.
I usually don't care for random game reviews, but you keep them really interesting.
another great review and entertaining as well. Keep'em coming Pete.
Another great Review, thanks Pete I hadn't heard of this game until this review and it looks pretty unique and addictive :-)
I was actually going to get this on the DS soon! Nice review Pete.
this is what games should be like. this in my opinion is a real challenge, not just a showcase of graphics and violence
Wow what an interesting game!! soo unique!
@PearlSWEDEN Yoshi's touch and go is a great comparison! I forgot all about that...it's more similar to Yoshi than Kirby actually.
THANK YOU! Some friends think graphics are the entire gameplay! I keep trying to tell them that graphics are completely different from gameplay, but their pixel-sized brains can't comprehend that.
I remember playing this when I was 6
Cool looking game! Your right, the soundtrack is awesome from what I have heard on the review. Im gonna have to check this game out!
Awesome review, Pete! This looks really interesting! Keep the videos coming! :D
@DTACAPTCAVE There si a co-op mode on the Wii version but i was not able to test it out for the review.
Hey pete.you were right about this game.i picked it up for my birthday and i love it.its so addicting!!. And the music is fantastic too.it takes me back to the 16 bit era days
When i saw the title of this review i thought it was gonna be a bad game but it looks very fun. I learned never judge a game by a cover (or in this case title)
This game looks really cool! Definitely need to buy or rent this.
@suxatguitar1 These is going to be a "lite" version released on Wiiware later this year which includes 50 levels instead of 100 for a cheaper price.
As you might expect I will be doing a review for the DS version of this. I intended on getting the DS version over the Wii but I'm glad you did a review of the Wii version.
6:18 Retail for a new copy 2010: $29.99
Retail for a new copy 2022: $299.99
This game looks pretty sweet, thanks for the great review!
This game looks interesting. I will be getting a Wii very soon for the VC games. I like the fact that you can play Game Cube games on the Wii too. For some reason this game reminds me of Little Big Planet. Don't ask haha. Great review Pete. Looking forward to the next Allgengamers podcast.
This game is intense hahaha. Thanks for the review! I'll be sure to get it!
Refreshing a gem to add to my collection
I saw this in the store the other day and was really thinking about picking it up and now I will definitely. Thanks for the great review Pete!
Great review Pete.
I'm leaning toward a DS version because I tried the demo available on the Nintendo Channel.
I only heard about this game by Steph mentioning it and judging from what I see here, I like. Looks like I will have to pick this up once it hits stores in the UK in October.
Great video! I remember reading about this game in Nintendo Power awhile back, but I kind of forgot about it, haha.
Thanks for the review Pete.
I have it on the DS and it's Great!
Seen to much of the word FAIL though but Im getting better lol!
I actually first saw this when JewWario review it(That was the time I don't have a DS), but when I recent have the DS, I personally like it. Especially the music itself. :D Great review here, Pete. :D
From far away, Ivy reminds me of Torchic. I've yet to play Kirby's Canvas Curse, but both games look interesting. The game looks like a more fun, casual game to play, which is great for me if I want to just jump in and play. I'll have to wait for a price drop though. I like the art style though.
I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH! I only have the mini DSware version, I want to get the full DS or Wii version.
Great review. What made you decide to pick this up for the Wii vs the DS?
Great review Pete, I'm gonna try this.
Very interesting concept. I will have to check this one out.
damn you pete dorr you just keep making videos of awesome games and forcing me to spend money on them, thanks buddy ;)
I just bought it brand new for $25. Loving it.
That's really good, never thougth the gameplay would be like this.
More an Jump en Run but fine. This way looks more challenging.
NIce Review btw : )
@SharinganLust According to wikipedia it was released on "windows mobile" in japan in 2009 first, yes.
great review Pete. i might actually check this game out.
Great review Pete, I think I might review the DS version
man this game looks amazing
Hmm I might have to check this out. I love platformers. Is it better for the Wii vs. the DS? Just wondering since I have both systems.
thumbs up for a sequel!
@PeteDorr
Oh, one of the trailer had that wiiware tag which made me assume that this is just a DS game that got ported wiiware. Thankfully your review corrected this .
This game looks pretty cool. Good review.
Wow, after seeing this game review, I don't want to buy it. But you did an awesome job explaining it to me.
This definitely looks like it would control better on the DS with the stylus. I'm definitely going to look into picking this up.
@RoziKino It's not MY favorite platformer on the Wii, but it very well could be for someone else.
@WaxHeadroom
Yeah I have Opoona, great little fairly unknown RPG on the Wii.
Are you using the new mic you got for AllGenGamers? Your audio is much better.
I liked the structure of your review, it was good and this game looks fun.
I think im gonna pick that one up looks rly good! Great review
So cool! This is gonna be the next Wii Game i'm gonna get.
oh shit! this game on the ds too!? i want!
nice review pete!
Love the artwork very unique looking
@TreasureChestReviews You do not need Wii Motion Plus to play.
I was hoping that this would be a spiritual successor to The New Zealand Story, but it looks like a good game in it's own right.
that was an awesome review. sadly that's very rare on youtube. think i'll try it =)
You know, didn't know much about this game. I really just saw a 7.5 review from Nintendo Power and new about the developer and the graphical style. After this review I've decided I'm gonna look into this one, Other M is kinda my top priority at the moment but this is only $30 so we'll see!
For me, this game has "The New Zealand Story" (NES) written all over it! Or maybe I've been playing too many NES games latly lol. Anyway, this does look fun and pretty original too!
looks fun. I should get it.
-KT
I have been wanting this game for a while, but was worried about the controls. Good to hear it is all up to scratch. Not sure if I should get it on DS or Wii though - I'm leaning towards DS.
This game seems very intresting, i hope you will do a review on the new kirby game when it comes out!
I can't picture myself playing this with a Wii-Mote, I got too used to the stylus I guess.
And I hate people who judge the game by its looks x.x it may look childish and all, maybe extracted fom Discovery Kids but shut it until you try it e_e It's damn addictive and damn fun
this looks like a very interesting game.. i really like these mind games alot:)).. awesome review and i love your voice lol.. classy
nice vid pete! enjoyed it
Excellent review!
Also known as Kirby Canvas Curse. Also known as the prelude postlude ball game-ajamma
Excellent review.
Pete have you ever thought about becoming a video game reviewer. They make alot of money, and the work is really fun.
The only thing holding me back is they announced a wiiware version as well which should be cheaper
WOW pete. you are so good at this game lololol
Great review - thanks.
@carlospicolo619
A kiwi is also a small flightless bird I believe native to Australia or New Zealand.
cool, gonna give this a download
looks difficult but i like challenging games so i might just give it a try
great review but when are you going to do a pick ups vid those are my favs
Great video and cool game.
I doubt it will be my favorite platformer on the Wii since you also got Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, but I think I'll give it a try :)
It’s been a while :,)
@kieranmay I think they might be the same. Get the DS version I think, it's a little bit more simple. You use the pen rather than motion controls and buttons.
i want to get this for the Ds, but thats because i'm a hand held gamer more than a console gamer, only thing is that i'm waiting for Golden sun Dark Dawn, and Okamiden, plus i get valkyria chronicles 2 in 3 days, but i do gotta say i would love to buy this game because of the art style, I'ma sucker for good art styles in games, and this reminds me of old time children stories i used to read
Box art says "made by the creators of sonic". Thanks! I was gonna buy it but you had to go and put me off. Well done!
what,s wrong with the game being madse by the creators of sonic
play a sonic game in the last 10 years .
2006 to 2016 has some good sonic games
I mean does yujji naka even make the sonic games anymore? He's been making games for other studios for a long while now.
Also he made rodea for the Wii which is another must play for the console.
kiwi as in the bird with the short film where he killed himself
I really like your voice! :) Born for doing reviews ;P
This is exactly like kirby canvas curse.
looks awesome i must pick this up :D
i think you just picked my next game
pete have you played the new harvest moon game for DS. im really enjoying it i'd love it if you did a review or impressions on it.
Cool review :)
