How the Inventor of the Rubik’s Cube Cracked His Own Code

  • Since the 1980s, the Rubik’s Cube has captivated the minds of puzzle solvers around the globe. But how did one of the world’s most addictive and prolific puzzles come to be? It all began in the beautiful city of Budapest, in the beautiful mind of Ernő Rubik, a design and architecture lecturer looking for a tactile way to teach his students about three-dimensional space. But the story’s real “twist” came when the creator had to engineer a solution to his self-made conundrum. Think you have what it takes to crack the code? Take it up with the master himself.
    This Great Big Story was inspired by Genesis.

      @dibbidydoo4318 6 лет назад +20

      RookieN08 well it's not really like inventing the _tools_ for algorithms. Basically algorithms are basically the same, what do 54÷2 63÷3 have in common? They're both division problems despite having different numbers, algorithm, algorithm isn't literally inventing something that noone could've thought of but there's a billion ways of algorithm they just find one.

      Algorithms are based on commutators, which are based on math.

    • @WestonMurdock
      @WestonMurdock 6 лет назад +14

      Actually, with some basic group theory, you can intuitively create your own algorithms to solve the Rubik's Cube. Look up some videos on Commutators and Conjugates to get more information if you are interested, but just about every algorithm imaginable takes the form of (Z)XYX'Y'(Z'). (The Z and Z' isn't used in every case but you will see it occasionally, depending on the circumstances.) Basically, each of those parts are different short sequences of moves that can be done intuitively with relative ease, and then the ' denotes the inverse of those algorithms, allowing you to 'undo' most of the changes that those algorithms make to parts of the cube that you don't want to disturb. It's very interesting stuff, so I would recommend looking up more info on it if you are curious.

    I cracked the cube on my own at the age of 13 in 1980. I’ve kept one around the house ever since and regularly solve it just to keep my method fresh. I have recently started looking at how others do it and I realised that my method is different to anyone else I have seem doing it online. I use a corners first approach but with a series of additional moves I figured out on my own which overcome different barriers.

    Anyone else here annoyed that they didn't answer the question posed by the title. In fact the video literally had nothing to do with the title, besides from the topic of the Rubik's cube. I literally only came here because I was actually interested how the first Rubik's cube was cracked, but the video had literally nothing to do with that.
