@@MrGabeanator I was so lucky to be there. 1) Production went past its schedule and college students who'd been chosen to be extras had to go back to school, so they couldn't participate. I signed up at a table they had set up in a mall -- it was just by chance. 2) My car didn't work that morning. But my 90-year-old father-in-law (shockingly!) allowed me to drive his beloved Cadillac from Raleigh to Chapel Hill to take part. I was VERY lucky that day! Also, the REAL Patch Adams spoke to us in between takes in the auditorium (as a group). Later, I wrote to him and advised him to get a PR agent, and he called me. He took my advice.
I watched an autopsy program on Netflix that went into his autopsy. It said he had a lewy body dementia that he didn't even know he had that caused extreme anxiety, tremors, and difficulty reasoning. So he wasn't himself when he did what he did.
One of the most touching movies i've seen. 1 hr 55 mins has taught me more than what i've learned in a whole semester in Med-school. Every med-student should definately watch this movie, 'cause school and university dont teach you humanity and sympathy, we need more of that within the medical personnel. I can relate so much with Patch, humor has help and taught me to deal with my issues, it takes away an inmense amount of the weight and struggle we all deal with in life. Infinite thanks to both Robin and Hunter for inspiring and touching so many souls around the world. "People will never forget the way you made them feel", this words resonate today more than ever. As much as i wish each one of us could've helped Robin carrying his pain and struggles a little bit, i hope he left knowing how many lifes he changed not only with his career but with his humility.. I will never forget his smile, there was always something so special and heart warming about it, it was like his inner child smiling. Rest in Peace.
I watched this when I was in my first year of medical school. Cried my eyes out. Still do when I re-watch it. Very moving and great story. RIP Robin Williams.
This movie really made me cry!!! Totally loved it. Whether you're in the medical field or not, there is a lesson to be learned here. When you find humor in the most difficult stages of your life, chances are, you will overcome. Your mind is powerful. We are born to be a blessing to others and that's what Patch Adams is about.
You're truly ignorant. The real Patch Adams was much smarter and wiser than the bozo presented in this movie. The real Patch Adams even said he didn't like this film because it was an inaccurate portrayal. This movie disrespects him completely.
Okay, just because a person may be mis-informed about a certain subject, doesn't mean that you can label them as being ignorant. Stop it. Please...It's just so important that we, as human beings, be kind to one another. I had no idea what the real Patch Adams throught of the movie. I didn't read or watch any articles or TV documentaries discussing this topic. Have a great day!
R.I.P Robin Williams, one of my favorite actors ever and one of my favorite child hood figures. Always adored him, seriously. Even if he didn't love this movie, I did, I loved this movie and it'll always be one of my favorite movies ever and a part of my childhood. I always admired his courageous passion for entertaining his audience and his amazing personality that just stuck to him in every movie. That's what I love most, his amazing and fun personality, so long man. Thank you, for the memories. Rest in Peace, Good Friend.
The world lost Robin Williams yesterday. The one man whom I always thought of when I needed to smile or be a kid again. Almost a year ago, I lost my nephew Jeffrey. I'm glad I got to be the one that made him laugh during the times he needed it the most. To be the person he called when he needed to talk or make his day awesome by just.being.there. Depression and mental illness is everywhere. There's a cure for it but it takes time. It's called "being a nice person".
This one, The Awakening, Dead Poets Society and Will Hunting are some of the best movies with Robin that I will always remember. You are missed, but you will never be forgotten.
First thing I did when I heard the news is I watched this movie again for the first time in a long time. I think I cried 10x harder than I did the first time I watched it. RIP

I love this movie. Its my all time favorite movie. When I read that Robin Williams had passed away I had to wipe away some tears. He is and always will be my favorite actor. Rest in peace Robin Williams. You made me laugh, smile and cry. You are a legend. I hope that you'll fill heaven with lots of laughter.
Will miss Robin Williams and wish we could have at least one more of those funny, spirited, amazing movies like the ones he has played in! Condolences to family and friends!

Patch Adams is a real person. This movie disrespects him COMPLETELY! The real Patch Adams is much smarter and wiser and said he wasn't fond of this film and that it was an inaccurate portrayal. The exact OPPOSITE of "must see".
DaHuzyBru I pretty much have a right though. No one seems to realize how inaccurate and disagraceful the film is toward the real guy. In fact, the creators of the film promised to give some of the money it made to Patch Adams for his hospital. They never did.
Universal parch Adams is one of my favorite movie . I say this movie was absolutely an inspiration to my folks who became doctors in the 80s and they do a wonderful job helping people like me and my sis who took really good care of both of us since we were little kids and thank you . How did I miss this one? I never even heard of this movie until now! I guess no matter how hard somone tries to keep an eye out for hidden treasures, every once in a while one slips by unnoticed, waiting to be discovered at a later date. I love making new discoveries out of me. Those moments are what make life worth living. Realizing their is more to life than what we have been given or earned from working for "IT".

Laughter will always be the best medicine, ,,, get up everyday and make it your mission to go out and make as many people smile even laugh as possible, be silly, dance in the street, do cartwheels,, and see how amazing it will make your day as well as others..
Robin Williams left such an emotional prescence with the conclusion of several of his films from this to Mrs Doubtfire, Jack, and probably even Dead Poets Society. (Never seen the last 1) He was just a phenomenal energy so full of life and seemed to enjoy bringing laughter to folks. Well...the good die young, right?
He was a BRILLIANT actor and I think what many people tend to overlook is his ability to take on more SERIOUS roles than taking more flamboyant comedic ones. This movie just like "Awakenings" (1990) are both showcases of just how SUPERB of an all round actor he was. There's a deleted scene in "Mr's Doubtfire" where the girl playing his oldest daughter says something to the effect of "It's your job to be out Dad" and Robbin Williams replies "It's not a job it's a privilege" and whenever I watch that clip on RUclips it leaves a lump in my throat every time and that's how I like to remember him. For being such a warm and caring person who was also HILARIOUSLY funny.
Slaat nergens op dat ik het in de Engelse taal zeg...hier ligt komedie en verdriet zo dicht bij elkaar dat het bijzonder is...Robin bedankt dat je de beste film ooit voor mij gemaakt hebt! Rust in vrede vriend!
Patch Adams is an excellent movie. Robin Williams plays a suicidal man that checks himself into a psychiatric ward where he finds himself relating to the mentally ill people there, and has a realization that he doesn't want to kill himself anymore because he finds fulfillment in making other people laugh, and at that point all he wants to do is help people with their problems.
We had a few pediatricians for our children as they were growing up because we lived in three different states. But our favorite one (whom our kids adored), even though he could talk 90 miles an hour (Lol!), looked AND acted so much like comedian Tim Conway, always cutting up and being silly with the children. He had the same mischievous grin as Conway too! He loved our kids because they were so well-behaved with him and never dreaded "going to the doctor"!
